Not underwear... And general everyday wear...

underwear, school and work shirts and teenager tops once.
everything else til dirty, wool (not next to skin) almost never.

Brown76 · 15/02/2020 06:18

Pants, socks, bras, tshirts, shirts once.

Jumpers and cardis or shirts that have been worn over T-shirts 3-5 times.

Jeans about 3-8 times, basically until they smell.

Pyjamas 2-3 times.

LolaSmiles · 15/02/2020 07:07

Everyone has the chair surely. The "not dirty enough for washing, not clean enough for wardrobe.
I thought everyone had a chair for this. Grin

This thread makes me laugh though. Just like it's possible to have perfectly reasonable breath without smelling of a mint factory, it's possible to have perfectly reasonable clothes without smelling like you've showered in detergent.

AngusDuck · 15/02/2020 07:10

Only once for everything. That includes pyjamas and bras! The threads on here about people wearing bras for days/weeks on end without washing them make me feel ill.

NotYourHun · 15/02/2020 07:16

When it’s dirty or smells? Could be once, could be five times. Jeans and jumpers can go weeks without needing washing. Toddler can sometimes wear things a few times too but he’s messier than me.

Every day is excessive. The planet is literally dying. People need to stop being so selfish and prudish.

JustaScratch · 15/02/2020 07:18

Tops - once.
Skirts - quite a few times, particularly in winter when worn over tights.
Jeans - I actually wear jeans four or five times before washing them and am fine with that!

AngusDuck · 15/02/2020 07:18

And before anyone jumps on me telling me how bad it is for the environment, we try to do everything else in a environmentally friendly way. Reusable nappies and wipes, vegetarians, no single use plastics, we haven’t flown anywhere for five years, we only use our car a couple of times a month for short journeys on average (apart from a couple of longer summer holiday journeys), amongst other stuff. I am however quite obsessive about cleanliness and showering and washing clothes daily is my weakness and I can be okay with that as long as I try and keep our environmental impact low in other ways.

HeronLanyon · 15/02/2020 07:20

Underwear - after one wear
T shirts and tops one wear
Slouchy evening at home joggers/t type - after 3 or 4 wears
Jeans - rarely wear - around 5 or 6 wears
Suits - dry clean after 4 or 5 wears.
Sweaters etc after 8 ish wears
Coats - dry clean once usually whenever I stop wearing in spring.

I never iron anything which has been worn next to my skin already as that just irons in the dirt.

I have had clothes moths in the past and one problem is that they are attracted to sweat/skin cells - ie worn clothing. I never ever put worn clothing back in wardrobe/drawers. Try to have a kind of quarantine area (hanging on hangers on back of door somewhere etc).

I also now buy better quality clothing (and less of it) as I sometimes found myself washing cheaper trousers/jeans or sweaters etc simply because they had become baggy around knee or elbow etc. What a waste of water !

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 15/02/2020 07:32

Well that's a relief. For the record I wear my clothes probably 3 times unless I have done something that's left it smelly. Me pet peeve is cooking certain thing's that cling to my clothes like realky garlicky stuff, so I would bung clothes in the wash after. My kids clothes however are washed after one wear because one is two yo and the other a newborn, and are generally mucky by the end of the day. My DH on the other hand would wear something for weeeeeks. He gets annoyed by washing the kids clothes so much, especially pj's everyday.

For what its worth I also think it's bad to wash everyday for the environment, and your wallet!!

I am quite old and have just realised that I have been automatically throwing clothes in the washing basket after one wear all my adult life. After reading this thread I am not going to do this anymore . This could be life changing. ( in the same week I have realised I HATE underwired bras which I have worn for 40 years. Bought a non wired ... bliss. But that's a different thread) so yes for less washing

kleew1 · 15/02/2020 07:46

Once but my partner wears everything a few times. Except his bed T-shirt’s and pants!

StormBaby · 15/02/2020 07:50

Everything gets worn once. Especially school uniforms. How can kids possibly wear them more than once? Those poor smelly kids that wear the same uniform every day all week. Grim.

Wanderer1 · 15/02/2020 08:08

Until it smells or is physically dirty/stained. Jeans could literally go months. However I am quite clumsy so things normally get dirty before they get smelly annoyingly

ooooohbetty · 15/02/2020 08:22

Tops or dresses once because my armpits sweat a lot. Trousers 2 or 3 times.

CuriousCapricorn · 15/02/2020 08:25

Pretty much everything is washed after being worn once, Apart from coats/jackets which I wash every couple of weeks.
Dc are 17 and 9 and they’ve always had a full fresh school uniform every day but I know from others that isn’t the norm.

Towels I try and use twice. Bedding is washed weekly. Tea towels every day.

I do have diagnosed OCD though and am aware that I am a little extreme.

autumnleaves15 · 15/02/2020 08:30

Underwear - once but bras twice
Jeans - 3-4
Tops - once
Jumpers - twice if I've had a little top under it but once if it's a thin jumper

I shower once a day, sometimes twice if I'm at the gym.

BirdieFriendBadge · 15/02/2020 08:31

Glad I'm not the only one who gets a few wears out of a bra.

In summer if it's sweaty then I can't. But this time of year my bra isn't getting anything on it. And they really suffer quick from over washing.

Donkeykong2019 · 15/02/2020 08:35

Tops once. Jumpers, cardis and trousers twice

Rubyupbeat · 15/02/2020 08:43

@Cantuccit
Because some people wash their clothes after one wash does not mean they are sweaty, probably. like me want my garments to smell fresh, not lived in.
I cant believe that anyone could wear a bra more than once! They are so close to your skin, so will have shredded skin on them, eurghhhh.

Quadrangle · 15/02/2020 09:20

The dcs' school blazers get washed every half term

Ginfordinner · 15/02/2020 09:22

You are being ridiculous and overly melodramatic Hmm
My bras still smell fresh after one wear. I am not well endowed and never get underboob sweat. Do you wash towels after every use as well, and change bedding every day?

KimikosDreamHouse · 15/02/2020 09:22

A full fresh uniform every day? Do you mean a new skirt or pair of trousers every day? I'm astonished- mine had a clean shirt every day but I don't think he even had more than 2 pairs of school uniform trousers. They were the regulation trousers from the approved stockists. I don't think they were washable so would have gone to the dry cleaners at end of term (if I remembered)

cherryblossomgin · 15/02/2020 09:25

Jeans and Jumpers 2 or 3. Everything else once.

KimikosDreamHouse · 15/02/2020 09:26

Well you know what the answer will be !

Like you, I'm not getting the horror of wearing a bra more than once.

I'm also astonished by people who wash coats and jackets every week. Aside from the fact I don't own any coats or jackets which are washable- why on earth does a coat or jacket need to be washed weekly?

KimikosDreamHouse · 15/02/2020 09:28

How do you wash a school blazer?
