Not underwear... And general everyday wear...

When it’s dirty it gets washed. Tops and t shirts usually two or three times; jeans whenever they get dirty but will wear all week if I can get away with it. I’m only in my civvies between 5-8 ish in the week otherwise it’s work clothes and pyjamas. I’ll wash work clothes after a wear or two as I work in a school and the smell of school just clings to me for some reason!

Bras not as often as I should.

Pants and socks obviously one wear - that would be grim.

My son might get two wears out of his jeans but it’s a clean top every day. He’s a three year old so just makes a mess!

Why ndo you ask OP?

But I don’t wash based on number of wears - I wash based on smell and whether they’ve got anything spilled on them. I wouldn’t chuck it in the wash just because I wore it once.

Jeans - loads of times
Underwear (including bras) - once
Jumper/Work trousers/skirt- twice
Anything else - once

Kids - once for everything as they're always spilling or getting dirty.

DH puts everything in the wash after one wear except jeans.

I don't count the wears. I can get 3 days out of a top and a fortnight out of jeans. If I cook fish then I end up having to wash everything I have on, plus have a shower!

Bras I hand wash every other day, which is a swish around in the bathroom sink while I wait for my antiperspirant to dry.

Underwear after every wear, tops the same. Jeans and outerwear I wear a few times before washing.

I sometimes wash things after one wear but I'm really really trying to get out the habit. Unless it's been spilled or sweated on there's really no need, it all smells fine I'm just being precious.

Also does anyone else have a hardcore of dry-clean only stuff at the bottom of the laundry basket that never sees the light of day

skirts twice

Seriously? You wash skirts? Unless you've split something down the front why?

Haha yes, not dry-clean, but hand wash stuff. Some of them don't even fit anymore.

Surely it depends on the item. Underwear and tshirts gets worn once (although I don't wash bedsocks every day bizarrely). Jeans and trousers two or three times, skirts in winter two to multiple times depending on the material, in the summer skirts once or twice depending on the weather, dresses once except a woollen dress that I always wear a tshirt and cozy tights under and so treat like a jumper. Jumpers get washed when start looking or feeling grubby so probably 5-10 times, coats once a year.

Tops, socks and underwear just once (except bras, which get worn 2-4 times).

Trousers, dungarees, pinafore dresses, skirts - about 3-6 wears
Jumpers and cardigans only when they need it if they are wool/delicate or about 2-4 wears if they are easily machine washable.
Pyjamas about 3 nights (but I shower before bed and wear knickers under Pjs)
Everything else like outdoor coats as and when they need it

underwear once, everything else as needed. Sweaty/spilled on then may only go one wear. Otherwise until it needs washing which is when it is grubby or smells.

anything dryclean only never gets into the house.

Shock No! I have a special bag for dry clean only things that I stuff clothes into and forget about for weeks Grin

Once. Two wears for jeans sometimes. Two or 3 for pure wool jumpers. My old man house cardigan gets washed as often as my bras though - approx once every blue moon.

I wash based on smell & stains so it really varies. Same for the children. In our bid to improve our energy & water usage as a family I really try not to wash things for the sake of it. We aren't a sweaty lot.

The only items I wash after just one wear are pants, socks & tights.
I recently started wearing T shirts for 2 days instead of one, and there was no noticeable difference.
Jeans, trousers, jumpers etc only get washed when they are visibly dirty or start to smell.
Are people who wash everything after one wear aware that we have a climate crisis?
Never mind the extra cost & effort involved! Unless you all have housekeepers ..

if they get a bit whiffy you can put them in the freezer to kill any bacteria

Freezing doesn't kill bacteria, it just slows growth while they are frozen. If you want to reduce whiffiness then hang outside on a good blowy day. Blows the metaphorical cobwebs away.

It also shortens the life of your clothes to wash them too often. Some jeans manufacturers suggest they should never be washed (but I tend to go on muddy dogwalks).

Until it smells or is stained. So tops between 1 and 3 times, jeans 4 or 5 times. Woollens - loads of times ;-). I work from.home, so as soon as I get in from.the school run, I change into my 'home' clothes.

T shirts normally one day, unless I literally only had it on briefly after work/before bed.

Jeans..a few days.

Sweatshirt/hoodie also a few days.

It depends. Skirts do several days, tops and dresses do a day or two - dresses can do more than a couple of days. But if it’s a hot day, or I do a lot of energetic housework (rare), then just one day. And if I drop food down myself, they may only do one day.

I shower regularly and use a good antiperspirant, and I don’t smell - if I did, I’d put the stuff to the wash.

So much unnecessary washing. Shock Jeans 3 or 4 wears. Work Tops twice.
Not only is all this washing bad for the clothes themselves , and your bills (electricity, water, washing powder) but what about your carbon footprint?

I usually manage to spill stuff down me most days, so most things once, twice if I'm careful. Dh wears T-shirt's once or twice, but usually has a rugby shirt or hoody over them which he'll wear all week when not in work clothes. Work shirts he wears once, and work trousers usually last a few days.

Dc I am sure put clean clothes in the basket rather than returning them to the floordrobe. Ds slightly better than the girls, he does his own laundry and has for a couple of years (just turned 18).
