Once for everything with the exception of infrequently worn things like cardigans. I wash my coat once a week. DS has clean uniform every day as he's a dirty little bugger, but I also have five sets of that for him. His coat is washed at least twice a week.

Once

The thing is some of you say you don't wash things until they smell but I'm sorry you can't smell them!
Aka 'some of you don't wash clothes the same frequency as me so I shall inform you that you clearly couldn't be capable of assessing how clean your clothes are, couldn't possibly consider how warm or sweaty you have been during the day, and couldn't possibly make a decision yourself, so I shall inform you that you must obviously smell because I know more about strangers and their personal sweat levels than they do'.

Everyone has the chair surely. The "not dirty enough for washing, not clean enough for wardrobe.

In a summer I wash more since I sweat more, but when it's cold I can do 2 days of top easy. Week for trousers unless I spill on them. Cardigans probably 4x each. Dresses... 2-3 usually. No pjs.
I lightly spray it all with water/softener mix sometimes and always air it properly.

I treat clothes like food with look and sniff test🙈

Pants and socks everyday

Very long time between washes for everything else

Even the 1yo gets a few wears out of a t shirt with diligent bib use

Love the chair idea -mine is my floor-
I go to the gym twice a day, 5 days a week, change clothes and shower each time.
Other days, outer clothes not gym clothes? Wear twice at least. Jumpers and jeans get washed when they are covered in mud /soup but it might take me a while to notice. Think I'm more paranoid about stinky pits than looking messy lol.

Once. I'm lazy though. For some reason I think it's easier to throw it in the laundry, wash it, dry it, fold it and hang it back up in the closet rather than check if it's clean and hang it back up after wearing it the first time.

I don't understand how people have time (or the inclination) to do this much laundry!

I try and get as much wear as I can out of everything - t-shirts generally last 2 days, trousers a week or two and jumpers a week or two usually. Bras I wear for 3 days, knickers and socks 1 day. Pyjamas I wear for a week - shock horror, I wear them at night too. My husband manages to make his work clothes last all week (he has a boiler suit over the top of them and doesn't sweat much).

DS (16months) I try and get more than a day's wear out of, but it's rare because he gets covered in food or paint - he wore the same jumper yesterday and today to nursery, but needed a new top, trousers, socks and dribble bib this morning.

But I'm still doing laundry every day! Although I use cloth nappies, so about 4 washes a week are for DS, which is more than DH and me combined.

@turnandfacethenamechange If I have something that's hand wash only, it goes in the washing machine anyway. If it can't hack that, then it has no place in my house! I find most 'hand wash only' things can survive a delicate cycle, the manufacturers are just being cautious.

Underwear once.

Other clothes - depends on how long I wear them. I tend to wear things a couple of times before washing. I might only wear my jeans for a couple of hours whilst out shopping so may leave them for 3/4 wears before washing.

Cardigans I leave for ages.

Once, with the exception of things like cardigans in mohair/alpaca mix, dry-clean-only wool trousers, and jeans. In summer I wear a lot of midi length skirts, and “air” them on the washing line after wearing.

We also have a white cat, so everything is awash with hair all the time.

Toddler - most things just once as she gets them grubby quickly. Sometimes jumpers or cardigans make it for a second day.
Me - tops & dresses are one day only, jumpers/cardigans and trousers generally 3 or 4 days. Pyjamas a week.
Husband - similar to me but his T-shirts sometimes last 2 days.

Jeans 2-3 days and jumpers maybe twice as I always wear a long sleeve top under them. For tops where I just wear a bra underneath then I only wear them once.

I now understand why people do a wash a dayShock

I also change as soon as i come home. I don't know if that makes difference 🤷

Jeans when they’re dirty (grubby small children leaving toothpaste finger prints etc or mud).

Wool makes me itch like a loon so my tops are either cotton or synthetic and yes, the pits whiff on day 2 so every day if next to skin. Otherwise when dirty.

Bras, pants and socks every day. Bras handwashed weekly as I have about 8.

DCs are grubby so most days although am trying to train DS1 into getting his uniform through two days.

DH is on his feet in a full suit all day so his shirts stink by evening.

I used to sweat much less and yes, tops lasted longer then.

Wow. How wasteful some people are Hmm
Unless clothes like jeans and hoodies get very mucky there is absolutely no need to wash them after only one wear. No wonder some posters have the washing machine on every day or even more than once a day.

Wow no wonder the planet is fucked with all these people doing laundry compulsively.

Jeans are best not washed. If they start to smell freeze them, only wash them if they are marked. Most clothes are damaged by too frequent washing.

Everything else, pants, tights and socks after each wear. Most other stuff after 2-3 wears, unless stained, or very sweaty/smelly. Some stuff like jackets and coats just get hung up to air and brushed.

I don't have an active job and change as soon as I get home from work.

Tops - once.
Trousers - once
Jeans - twice.

Kids stuff gets washed after one wear, regardless of thy type of clothing.

The people who wash everything after one wear - are you aware of the environmental impact of this? Do you realise that everyone you wash manmade fabric, microplastics leach out?
Jeans I wash when they're dirty. Tops after a few wears (unless they smell or are dirty). Cardigans maybe once a year. Jackets barely ever. I wash clothes far more frequently in the summer.
In between wears my clothes get aired. They don't smell.

Clothes that touch my skin - once.

I should really try to change so I don't wash clothes so much, I know it's not good for the environment. I don't feel confident enough to trust my own nose though.

I wash my coat once a week

Why? Do you spend a lot of time rolling around in mud?

I don't own any coats which are washable. I have 8 tailored wool overcoats and 2 raincoats. They might, if they are lucky , go to the dry cleaners once a year.
