Doctor won't allow an ultrasound

Not really AIBU but posting for traffic as I don't know what to do and hope anyone who has been in a similar situation can give me some advice.

I've got an 11 month old DD, still breastfeeding 2-3 times a day, sometimes more at night when she's teething and finished maternity leave October last year. DP and I want a second child close in age so were TTC over October, November and the very beginning of December. We stopped when I started feeling ill because urine tests were coming back negative and we don't want to start a pregnancy until I was better. Since the birth, I have had one period in August and cramps but no actual period in September.

So, for the last 12 weeks I have had what I would describe as morning sickness - nausea 24/7, very regular d&v (often waking at 4am to rush to the bathroom) and finding myself suddenly repulsed by a meal in the middle of eating it. In addition to this, I've also had periods of insomnia where I've slept about 2 hours a night for a 3 to 5 days or not even slept at all and I've been having very frequent mood swings, getting very frustrated at the tiniest things which is really not like me - I'm normally a very laid back person and have only ever been like this during my last pregnancy. In the last month or so I've also been finding that I'm am knackered pretty much all the time and it's not because of the baby, thankfully my DP only works 2 nights a week will always insist on taking her to let me get some sleep so I get plenty of rest but even after sleeping 10+ hours I find myself needing a couple naps during the day which again is not like me at all - both before and after DD I used to get about 5 or 6 hours a night and that would be more than enough.

More recently over the last two weeks my boobs have been getting quite tender and I've been feeling flutters or spasms in my belly. My allergies are more sensitive and I cant seem to get comfortable in bed, often waking with backache - both of which I had pretty much throughout my last pregnancy.

The nausea and d&v have been so bad that I've been off work since this started, and I first went to the GP 2 later because it hadn't eased off. First thing they asked was am I pregnant, have I done a test. I told them I'd done a few and all negative so had bloods taken to check hCG levels. Came back as

Yep, private scan.

whiplashy · 13/02/2020 21:04

Yes YABU, you say scans aren’t expensive- well then pay for one yourself. The NHS doesn’t have money/ appointments to waste

vitaminC · 13/02/2020 21:04

Urine tests are nowhere near 100% reliable, but blood tests are. If your B-HCG is negative then you are categorically not pregnant!
When was the most recent blood test?

RedRedWines · 13/02/2020 21:06

Obviously you just need to pay for a private scan

Supertrooper98 · 13/02/2020 21:08

This is strange.
Why have you not done a pregnancy test in the last two months if you think you could be pregnant?
And why won't you get a private scan?

ASundayWellSpent · 13/02/2020 21:08

You need to go for a private scan!

Elouera · 13/02/2020 21:09

Why can't you have a blood test till Mar? Surely you can take the request form to a range of phlebotomy clinics/hospitals within your area, and not just wait for a slot at your GP surgery?

Agree with others about the private scan.

Have you had a scope done- a camera either down the throat or up the back end?

rottiemum88 · 13/02/2020 21:09

Just came to repeat what everyone else has said, just pay for a private scan? I really don't understand how you can be 80% sure you're pregnant based on the medical evidence being pretty clear you're not Confused

rosegoldivy · 13/02/2020 21:10

I have no advice as everyone has already said a private scan is way to go.

I'm just here to find out if your pregnant or not....

TheGirlWithAPrince · 13/02/2020 21:10

I got a private scan for £30 on either Groupon or wowcher
... Just book one.

GeePipe · 13/02/2020 21:10

Private scan is the only way to go as everyone has said. Look on groupon or wowcher and look at all private scan places in your area as they vary wildly from £35 to £85 round my way. A dr isnt going to give you a scan sorry to say. They waited 4 days to give me a scan when i was miscarrying so i dont think they would ever consider someone with multiple negative tests to have one.

Bobbiepin · 13/02/2020 21:11

When was the last time you took a home pregnancy test?

GeePipe · 13/02/2020 21:11

Xpost thegirlwithaprince

RoseAndRose · 13/02/2020 21:11

As you say, OP, A scan isnt expensive

So find the money somehow.

Do bear in mind though that , although pee tests can be negative in late pregnancy, blood tests are reliable. A huge amount of your evidence may be confusing the types of test, and it all relies on Internet tales and other hearsay.

Phantom pregnancy is another possibility

cousinboneless · 13/02/2020 21:11

Private scan or just accept that you are not pregnant. This sounds like phantom pregnancy. If the tests aren't showing positives then private scan is the best option but unlikely to show what you think. You'll know one way or another when nothing happens when nine months have elapsed from start to finish if you don't further investigate.

fiftygradesofhay · 13/02/2020 21:11

You might have a growing fibroid, similar symptoms, apparently? Can you get a private scan?

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 13/02/2020 21:11

I know yiu said you can't afford a private scan but I think that's the only way you'll feel certain.

A basic scab can be about £25 try Groupon

starfishmummy · 13/02/2020 21:12

Doctors cant hust order scans because you want one. They have protocols set down by the ccg to follow.

1Morewineplease · 13/02/2020 21:13

I’m with other posters. Either ask for a second opinion or go privately.

MaggieFS · 13/02/2020 21:15

My first thought, which I see a ton of people have beat me to... get a private scan!

TurquoiseDress · 13/02/2020 21:15

When did you last do a urine pregnancy test?

The GP is never going to refer you for a obstetric scan because it sounds like you are definitely not pregnant.

Best way forward is to book a private scan!

Hoik · 13/02/2020 21:16

Tiredness, backache, and loss of appetite/unable to eat a full meal. Any bloating?

Personally I'd be asking the GP for a CA125 blood test to rule out ovarian cancer.

PegasusReturns · 13/02/2020 21:16

Private scan surely?!

Elbeagle · 13/02/2020 21:17

If you can’t afford a private scan at around £50, can you really afford another baby?
