To wonder if a lot of people are still against drag ?

Shows like Drag Race have become incredibly popular. I have tickets to see the live show in May, and I think drag culture is amazing. It shows how far we have come that such a show is so popular on TV, and I think it should be celebrated.
I asked some friends if they wanted to come to the show with me and they very firmly and quickly told me that they were not fans of that sort of stuff.
When I was a teenager, I used to think Drag Queens were just some middle-aged men on Canal street with a blonde wig and high heels, and I was quite intimidated and scared of them in a way. I wonder if some people still feel that way, and don't judge them for it, just curious.

Myself and others have explained it several times, read the thread. This has gone way too far now.

@INXS998 whereas you ARE truly lovely - lovely enought to line up to figuratively place a big sloppy smooch on men's arses. That's a Lovely thing to do, and I'm sure they appreciate it. God knows, the poor darlings need it.

fuckitywhy · 15/02/2020 20:56

On some sections of the site you'd be deleted and given strikes then banned for personal comments like your most recent posts OP. It's funny how the rules aren't applied everywhere.

MrsGrindah · 15/02/2020 20:57

So stop it then. But you won’t cos you are entitled to your opinion..as are those who disagree

Notimeforaname · 15/02/2020 20:57

Em, I do know better. I know my best friend of 20 years..... This is just a picture of an umbrella on the Internet Grin

Pettyargument · 15/02/2020 20:58

I think it felt brave because in the world of drag with the makeup and the wigs, she came along showing the other side - female to male and stripped down in front of everyone - it seemed brave to me.

INXS998 · 15/02/2020 20:58

@fuckitywhy the same applies to you. Some people on here are bullies, I've pointed it out.

OP posts:
INXS998 · 15/02/2020 20:59

@cavabiensepasser you are very rude what you are saying.

OP posts:
INXS998 · 15/02/2020 20:59

This is disgusting. I will not hesitate to defend myself and I have now reported this thread. It's abhorrent.

OP posts:
MrsGrindah · 15/02/2020 21:00

No it’s not. People are just disagreeing with you .

BovaryX · 15/02/2020 21:00

Myself and others have explained it several times, read the thread. This has gone way too far now

Yep. It is quite clear that this has gone way too far now Drag is a performative caricature of feminity By definition, it relies upon and propagates reductive, cliched, regressive stereotypes of women Why are you surprised that women object to it?

INXS998 · 15/02/2020 21:01

I've been insulted and belitted, and ive told people they are being rude nasty and aggressive.

OP posts:
INXS998 · 15/02/2020 21:02

Im not going to put up with this bitchiness (sorry, does that word offend you ?)

OP posts:
GCAcademic · 15/02/2020 21:02

Bullying = expecting people to give examples to justify their opinions, according to the OP. Nope, I’m afraid that’s just a basic component of reasoned discussion.

MrsGrindah · 15/02/2020 21:03

This thread isn’t about you you know..and I think you have been aggressive too so maybe just step away if it’s upsetting you.You won’t get people to change their minds no matter how offended you are.

INXS998 · 15/02/2020 21:04

And it continues...

OP posts:
BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/02/2020 21:05

I've been insulted and belitted, and ive told people they are being rude nasty and aggressive.

Which is coincidentally the way drag makes the majority of women on this thread feel.

You are just salty because you expected the thread to go differently and for everyone to agree and be all cool and edgy like you.

I bet you've asked for it to be deleted, right?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/02/2020 21:07

OP

You are the one who has had a post deleted.

Many of us on this thread have given reasoned arguments why we have concerns about the way drag portrays femininity.

You don’t have to agree with them but you don’t do yourself any favours when you fail to offer equally reasoned arguments back and get rather stroppy.

MsTSwift · 15/02/2020 21:07

Absolutely op isnt it just horrid when women don’t play along and refuse to simper and giggle when men are taking the piss out of them. Dearly me what is the world coming to

fuckitywhy · 15/02/2020 21:08

On the plus side, your friends in real life now have the measure of your view of women.

fuckitywhy · 15/02/2020 21:08

This here is just the internet after all.

12345kbm · 15/02/2020 21:08

You asked a question and it opened up a debate about the nature of drag. As has been pointed out in the thread, many times by many different people, a lot of women find it offensive and demeaning to women.

They have explained why they think that. You are entitled to your opinion and, to give money towards this and continue to support it.

I don't like it for many reasons, mostly because I just find it so spiteful. In my opinion, these are men belittling and bullying women. I have seen drag acts which seem to me, an excuse to make demeaning comments to female members of the audience whilst dressed as a clownish version of a woman.

I saw in one of the Ru Paul clips on Youtube, one of the Queens saying to an elderly woman in the audience, 'My! This room is as dry as your vagina.' That's not a celebration of women.

GCAcademic · 15/02/2020 21:09

Oh here we go. The “I’ve reported my own thread because it’s not going my way” flounce. No one has been rude. They have just asked you to evidence your assertions. Don’t lash out at people just because you can’t answer questions about claims you’ve made. That’s not how discussion works.

MrsGrindah · 15/02/2020 21:09

and so it continues

Yes...it will do because people won’t magically agree with you just because you don’t like it

Russellbrandshair · 15/02/2020 21:09

You are just salty because you expected the thread to go differently and for everyone to agree and be all cool and edgy like you

I agree. Whenever threads don’t go the way the OP wants the “you’re all being mean” accusations come out. Still no explanation...
