To think Labour are not a party for women/girls

Long-Bailey, Rayner and Nandy have all made public their support of a statement that demands the expulsion from the party of anyone who doesn’t agree with basically replacing current sex based rights/laws/social norms with gender/identity based rights - so if you think women are female, that female sports and prisons etc should be for females etc -then you are a transphobic bigot and should be thrown out of the party.

YABU OP. All Labour (well, 3/4 potential leaders and the cabinet member put forward to speak on this) have said is:

  • That Feminist groups discussing changes to the legal definition of womanhood are hate groups and all members should be expelled.
  • That women who refuse to say 'transwomen are women' should be subject to detailed investigation and have to 'justify' continued membership of the party.

They've made quite clear a debate is needed and (as long as everyone doesn't disagree with Labour policy or ask why the law needs to be changed) then people can say what they want.

I mean, seriously, what are all these women complaining about? Why can't they just be nice?

I've not voted Labour since Tony Blair went to war in Iraq. I think it's now a party in its death throes.

PityParty4one · 15/02/2020 17:50

Hit YABU!!!

Stupid fat fingers I obviously meant YANBU.

We shall see - at least you have good taste in men Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 15/02/2020 18:34

Until the Labour Party accepts that a man cannot "become" a woman and accepts that single sex spaces and single sex sports must remain,
then they needn't expect any votes from GC feminists

This is not "transphobic":
We don't want to allow any men in single sex spaces, not just transwomen, or those claiming to be

Labour expelling those of its members who refuse to deny biology is lunacy
In previous centuries some who dogmatically deny science have persecuted those who refuse to - depressing that dogma & claptrap are back in charge of a major party.

So until Labour regain sanity, it could be a Tory govt after the next GE too and the next and ....

Westminster Voting Intention:

CON: 48% (-1)
LAB: 28% (-2)
LDM: 10% (+2)
GRN: 6% (+1)
BXP: 2% (=)

Via @YouGov, 8-10 Feb.
Changes w/ 31 Jan-2 Feb.

Labour have a huge mountain to climb. They just continue to look more and more unelectable by the day.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 16/02/2020 09:37

I've not voted Labour since Tony Blair went to war in Iraq. I think it's now a party in its death throes.

I moved away from Labour under Tony Blair, voted Lib Dem and Green mostly, and was attracted back by the possibility of real economic solutions to the inequalities and slow socioeconomic collapse that is happening, under Corbyn.

Then this crap appeared.

We need a serious political party interested in actually running and administering the country. There are so many real problems and difficulties, starting with geography itself and overpopulation.

Labour are just a bunch of clowns performing in a circus ring. I will never vote for them again after this debacle, I don't care how they pretend to change any more. They need to drop this shite like a lump of rocks and apologise profusely for the distraction, but even then I will never trust them again.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/02/2020 09:41

They seem to be trying to appeal to 15 year old social media users.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 16/02/2020 10:00

Then perhaps it's time we admitted that the youf are there to be taught, and that they don't know a damned thing about running complex societies either.

The alternative, of course, is to say that all this fuss over trans has come to light because the way in which society treats half of the population - women - is actually a vitally important, even central, indicator of a culture. They can then admit that what they are trying to do is force women back into 'being kind' and 'being nice' and allowing the men to be centred in all things while women do all the unpaid labour at their backs that frees them up.

We could have had equality, men and women working together, but what the left want is women as slaves to men's every whim. It's no accident that trans has been connected to sexuality through what was LGB, despite apparently having nothing in common.

TheRealMcKenna · 16/02/2020 11:24

It’s not just this policy either than poses a real risk to women/girls.

During the election campaign Labour pledged to abolish Ofsted in favour of inspection by local authorities. I mentioned the serious safeguarding risk that this could pose (particularly to women/girls) and was basically shouted down for saying so.

Patroclus · 16/02/2020 13:13

This is it everythingisginandroses. Every week there seems to be yet another reason we should all reject labour because they arnt pure. Cant possibly debate it in party now for some reason. And god forbid any other party is held to these standards.

VortexofBloggery · 16/02/2020 22:47

Lisa Nandy has been recorded saying that child rapists should be able to choose to serve their sentence in a women's prison, if that is how they "identify" www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=oUon9j1zJ_E&

OverByYer · 16/02/2020 22:55

I’ve always voted Labour but spoiled my ballot in the last GE.
I was quietly hoping for change with a new leader and thinking a woman leader would be great. What a let down all of them have been. So disappointing.
Kier it is then, for now. I just hope he doesn’t slip down the Trans rabbit hole too

GCAcademic · 16/02/2020 23:03

Kier Starmer had pledged to implement self-ID. What Nandy is proposing is only the logical consequence of such a pledge. If you believe that transwomen are women, and you want a GRC to be available through self-ID, then you are saying that rapists should be allowed to choose whether they serve their sentences in the male or female estate.

All of these candidates are unspeakably evil.

Thinkingabout1t · 16/02/2020 23:20

Wonderstuff I have held my nose and voted Labour «because they’re the least worst» for the last time.

Patroclus · 17/02/2020 09:34

'Unspeakably evil' ffs

calllaaalllaaammma · 17/02/2020 09:55

just mindlessly chanting ‘trans women are women ‘ and ignoring all the chaos and problems this is causing, allowing no discussion or debate.
They’ve been completely taken over by lobby groups and haven’t got a single idea of their own.

bingbangbing · 17/02/2020 10:02

This 'chaos' is largely confined to MN and Twitter.

GCAcademic · 17/02/2020 10:39

Glad you're happy with this Patroclus and big, it's obvious some Labour members are. There were plenty of men at that hustings applauding Nandy's access to women for rapists policy. What a sick bunch of degenerates this party has turned into.

DodoPatrol · 17/02/2020 10:54

No, bing, it's in schools too -- the wishes of a teenage male to change with the girls will be set above the wishes of ordinary boring female girls to keep him out. Can't see anything could possibly go wrong there, can you?

If you DON'T think that it's fine for any teenage male to ask to use the girls' facilities, you probably should check your child's school policy. Ours is a Stonewall Champion school and says it's feelings rather than sex that determine where a teenager gets to pee or change.

It's not academic or a Twitter fuss for my daughter and her friends.

The current transgirl in their year is an otherworldly young person they've known for years, so they are 'being kind' (where possible -- one who is a rape survivor is very unhappy about loss of girl-only facilities). But they have no say over whether the next to 'declare' will be one of the utter creeps who no sensible girl would share a loo with.

That's school. Far worse in prison, with no escape.

bingbangbing · 17/02/2020 11:07

Do they change in a communal changing area? There's going to be a teacher in there then so not really a problem.

Anyway, given that the current government had just hired someone who supports mandatory contraception for the lower orders, I think there are other battles to fight.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 11:10

Girls will know who is a genuine case here (whatever the diagnosis of the underlying issue is) and who is a creepy chancer who is a potential danger.

But now the girls can’t call out the second one can they - and they can’t even say that they have concerns of feel embarrassed/unsafe/degraded because they have to chance infront of #1.
