It's the same for wet cotton wool. Makes my teeth go funny.

Any others?

Yes I hate them. Probably because i have a habit of biting on the end of a straw when drinking and it just feels so wrong when its paper

Deadringer · 12/02/2020 17:03

I hate straws full stop, I have no idea why people use them. (Medical conditions aside)

dementedpixie · 12/02/2020 17:04

We have silicone straws. I use them with long vodka drinks

EuroMillionsWinner · 12/02/2020 17:05

The metal ones are awful, too. The silicon ones are okay. Maccie D's straws are awful but I usually get tea with my meal so avoid their nasty straws.

inwood · 12/02/2020 17:08

I hate them. Just drink out of the cup (medical conditions aside).

GinTonic123 · 12/02/2020 17:10

I quite like glass straws. I like the smooth clean feeling they leave in my mouth.

RitaHayworthHair · 12/02/2020 17:10

It's something about wet paper that gives me that funny feeling, like chalk on a blackboard.

YANBU not to like paper straws - just drink out of the cup.
YABU if you use plastic straws.

EmmiJay · 12/02/2020 17:11

Hate them. I carry my own rose gold metal ones if I'm out. Have a jar of them in the kitchen.😌

RitaHayworthHair · 12/02/2020 17:12

I use plastic everything @Trahira Even my love is plastic Wink

QuixoticQuokka · 12/02/2020 17:14

YANBU to not like them. You could choose to not use a straw, or to bring your own though. YABU if you think you should be able to use a single use plastic straw instead.

Yesterdayforgotten · 12/02/2020 17:14

Yes they feel awful on the mouth. What I dont understand is why they change straws to help the environment but then keep milk in plastic! Where's the cardboard milk cartons?

PumpkinP · 12/02/2020 17:14

Hate them the McDonald’s ones always turn funny

Purpleartichoke · 12/02/2020 17:16

Paper straws are disgusting.

At home we have hard plastic ones. They last forever. The only ones we have lost were either chewed by a cat or fell into the heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher.

pigsDOfly · 12/02/2020 17:19

I hate straws and have no idea where this fashion for straws in adults' drinks came from; I assume from the idea of straws in cocktails.

I like a gin and tonic, but why in god's name do pubs think I need to have a straw stuck in my glass?

I'm not 5 years old and I'm perfectly capable of putting the glass to my lips and drinking from the glass without spilling it.

I usually manage to remember to tell the person serving me not to put a straw in the drink, otherwise they put the straw in, hand me the drink, I take it out and give it back to them; all very pointless.

Yes, paper straws are pretty unpleasant.

chocolatespiders · 12/02/2020 17:19

I find in a fizzy drink the paper Ones just make foam
Has anyone solved this?
I do have some silicone ones at home.

evilharpy · 12/02/2020 17:19

I don’t like them either, they go soggy so quickly. I’d rather just drink out of the cup.

At home we have some metal straws that are ok, but I have a klean kanteen that came with a silicone-tipped metal straw and I really like that one. Keep meaning to get a few more.

Yesterdayforgotten · 12/02/2020 17:23

The trouble with the macdonalds drinks are if you remove crap straw and attempt to drink out the cup it doesn't work either. The cups are so flimsy the pop ends up spilling everywhere especially on the move. And dont get me started on their stupid plastic coffee lids with the flap on them Hmm

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 12/02/2020 17:35

You can get straws made out of pasta. I think they are called Stroodles or something

Emmelina · 12/02/2020 17:48

They’re awful, they go all soggy and break down in your mouth and in the bottom of the cup.
I carry a little bag with silicone straws for everyone now! They came with a little brush to clean the insides properly.

Nothing2doooooo · 12/02/2020 17:52

Awful, easily-soggy things! Might as well start licking cardboard while at it. YANBU

Yesterdayforgotten · 12/02/2020 17:56

Emmelina I'm going to purchase silicone straws as it's the only remedy I feel

FizzyIce · 12/02/2020 17:57

Yanbu .
I hate paper straws and wooden forks .
I have reusable plastic ones now.
I tried silicone but they seem to keep the taste of washing up liquid/ dishwasher tablets no matter how many times I rinsed them .

Strugglingtoquit · 12/02/2020 17:57

I don’t like them either but I just drink from the glass directly to avoid the problem. I appreciate not everybody can do that but for the vast majority of people there’s no need for any kind of straw

Yesterdayforgotten · 12/02/2020 17:58

What about mcdonalds flimsy paper cups? They arent that easy to do that on the move and spill everywhere.
