Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

Indeed. I wonder who the witness is?

(No surprise at all that the ex-Congressman alleged to have made the offer is Dana Rohrabacher – even other Republicans think he's long been in the pay of the Russian government.)

Julian Assange: Trump 'offered pardon for Russia denial'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51566470

A witness in Julian Assange's extradition hearing will claim President Donald Trump offered the Wikileaks founder a pardon if he said Russia was not involved in leaking emails during the US election.
Assange's barrister revealed the claim at Westminster Magistrates' Court ahead of an extradition hearing next week.

Today Scrotus has pardoned or commuted 11 convicted criminals.

I have no doubt this is double barreled to send a message to Stone, Flynn, etc to 'hang in there' and also to make the US public blasé when he pardons them.

It's just getting worse and worse

Depressing.

This>>>>>>

We’ve never seen Bernie in any mode other than self-righteous anger. That’s why his followers include an unusually high % of angry, intolerant folks who display no patience with those who don’t fully agree with them and their candidate. That’s an alarming sign for taking on Trump

The debate was 'interesting'.

You could tell that Bloomberg was NOT used to being, um, 'challenged'. He stood there with cat's bum face. Personally, I think he was destroyed on the issues of sexual harassment and the wealth-gap.

I still like Biden but he's not really a 'cool' debater, he can tend to get flustered when he's angry. He came off OK, but I do wonder how he'd fare against Scrotus.

I'd like to see Bernie and Scrotus debate, but I just don't think the US is quite ready for Bernie's brand of Democratic Socialism.

The rest of them did OK. I think the 'winner' as far as getting points across was Warren.

Roussette · 20/02/2020 15:04

It's interesting to hear your take on it Across. I watched a short clip of it and they just seemed to be tearinng into each other without much policy talk but I'm really not that up on it.

What's the general view on Amy Klobuchar? I read she didn't do that well in this debate.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2020 17:39

40 months for Stone.

www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/roger-stone-sentencing/index.html

The most he'll probably serve is 10-15 (that's IMHO). If Scrotus doesn't pardon him first.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2020 17:47

I hate to put it this way, but Klobuchar came off as a bit of an airhead. It wasn't so much what her message was, it was something about the way she put it across. I can't put my finger on it. But she sounded like some small town school board member with 'big ideas' who decides to run for Congress and ends up debating with 'real' politicians.

I know she's a senator and that she's defo not an airhead. Maybe she just had bad coaching or didn't really prepare well. Or she tried to be someone she's not. She comes off to me as being a serious person who really isn't comfortable throwing 'zingers' or sarcasm. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Roussette · 20/02/2020 18:38

Thanks Across. Interesting.

I wonder how long till Stone's pardon comes through. Hmm

lionheart · 20/02/2020 20:31

Trump claims he is going to wait for the appeals process (rogue juror scenario) to play out before considering the pardon.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2020 21:10

I'm figuring there will be a 'decent interval' of a few months, then Stone will have a 'health crisis' upon which Scrotus will pardon him 'on humanitarian grounds'. He'll be out by Xmas.

I think his 'handlers' are going to want to see which way the wind blows re the upcoming election as far as a pardon before November. If it's too 'unfavorable' they'll probably try to get Scrotus to put the pardon off until after the election. Whether or not they can rein him in is another matter.

lionheart · 20/02/2020 21:59

He will find it hard to resist.

cozietoesie · 21/02/2020 01:44

What did he do?

Hmm, so many possibilities.
