Odd phone call by woman to DH mobile -what could this be?

Got a call this week on DH mobile. I rang the number back. Woman answered, sounded surprised. Said sorry wrong number.
I asked who she was trying to get in touch with and she started to sound a little nervous and said she was trying to get hold of her partner and had got hold of him now.
I replied that I find it unusual that she would dial an incorrect number for her partner as surely it would be in contacts?
She then hung up.
I copied the phone number down and I rang it back again only to be told I have dialled an incorrect number and to consult my directory.
How can this be??

Maybe she was calling to check whether he's as single as he's been telling her all this time

It’s possible she never dialed his number at all and it was a spam call spoofing her number.

I’ve had people call me and say “why did you call me?” Whenever I’ve never called them.

I’ve also called people back and they say they never dialed me at all.

I don’t understand why you are not letting this go. Unless he has a history that leaves you without any trust. Wrong numbers happen.

Not the point but I've never answered my husbands phone in 13 years.

Wrong numbers do happen. I had a man phone my work phone the other day looking for someone else.

Why did you answer his phone and call the number back? I've never answered my husbands phone unless he's asked me to.

Yeah if he'd been having an affair no way on earth would he have asked you to call a missed call back.

Do you have other reasons not to trust him? Because if this is it I'd say that's pretty paranoid.

I've had a few strangers call the first number I had, several times each. The most memorable one was a woman looking for 'Luke's mum' - that happened several times over a few months, told her she'd got the wrong number every time but I still heard from her every few weeks.
I don't have any children, didn't even know anyone with a son called Luke at the time!

I got a text once telling me in no uncertain detail how I was going to ravished that evening - very graphic. It was with great reluctance that I responded with "thanks for the offer but the wife's at Yoga tonight and I have to stay in with the children" I got a very embarrassed apology text very shortly after . Imagine the fall out if my then partner had actually seen that text appear om my phone!
