Crap is as sweary as fuck

This is an assumption that I have, and DH has just learned but is vehemently opposed to. He thinks crap is LESS sweary than fuck. WTF??!!

Crap is a category C swear, along with arse, damn, balls etc.

Cat B is things like bollocks, shite.

Fuck is definitely a Cat A.

Much less sweary than fuck. More of a "not very nice" word than an actual swear word. Can't quote on the phone, but agree with the pp who said that you'd say crap in front of your mum but not your nan.

I think it is less sweary than fuck, but I wouldn’t say it in front of my mum or my pupils.

I’d tell off a pupil in my class if they said it.

I do say the word crap which I suppose is a swear word but at the milder end of the scale.

Agree that on the swear-o-meter, crap is a 3 out of 10, damn or bloody about a 5, fuck around 8 and the c-word which I find the most offensive of all, a 10.
Ha ha.We're all so different in our score allocations. I don't consider damn to be a swear word at all. I'd give bloody 2/10, crap 3/10, fuck 10/10 and the c-word is totally off the scale (like 20/10) to the degree that I couldn't possibly have anyone in my life that uses that word. Thankfully only a neighbour has used it and, when I told him I can't bear to hear it, he has, very kindly, made efforts not to.

Crap is on the same level as bloody. I'd say it in front of the kids, at work etc but fuck is reserved for adults I know well, who I know won't be offended. How on earth do you think it's as bad as fuck?

Also my neighbours used to be Mr and Mrs Crapper. That made me chuckle. But if it was that bad wouldn't they change their name? You very rarely meet Mr and Mrs Fucker.....

I don’t think of crap as a major swear word, nothing like on the scale of fuck, but I wouldn’t really like to hear younger children using it.

Having said that, a dd at maybe 10 came home after school tests saying, ‘English was OK, Mum, but I did really craply at maths.’

I was torn between a minor objection to the c word, and pride that she’d correctly turned it into an adverb!

Then shit/piss/ bastard come in around 6/10

Then bloody/up yours/ damn around 3/10.

Crap isn’t even on the scale.

I wouldn't say crap in front of my mum so it's definitely on the sweary scale but it's definitely not as sweary as fuck (which I wouldn't say in front of my mum, boss or kids).

I'd say crap is about a 2 (same level as bloody) and fuck is about a 9 in-between shit (8) and all of its variations and cunt (10).

They use the word crap in American sitcoms but not fuck so I'd say it's definitely less sweary.
