AIBU to wear black tights with open toed shoes?

Just that really.

I have a lovely new pair of open toe heels I want to wear, but it is way too cold at the moment to go bare legs or wear my toeless thin tights.

Would this be a fashion faux pas? My friend says I will look ridiculous but at least my legs will be warm and my shoes will be pretty.

I voted Yabu but then I saw photos from Mistress and I like the look! So, if you're VB go for it!!!

PlanDeRaccordement · 06/02/2020 17:03

Just no.

Oh - just seem the photos posted above of black tights and dainty heels. Not what I’m thinking of at all. Nothing so timid and ladylike.

Chunky soles if not actual platforms - and some swagger to the socks.

MaryShelley1818 · 06/02/2020 17:26

Well I voted YABU but then saw SJP who looks fabulous!!

Undies1990 · 06/02/2020 17:28

Post a picture of you wearing them and we can help you decide if it's a yay or nay .....

ShirleyPhallus · 06/02/2020 17:30

So, if you're VB go for it!!!

Love the thought of Victoria Beckham hanging around MN asking posters what they think of a certain look Grin

Wexone · 06/02/2020 17:30

Yes....YABU

PreggoFeminist86 · 06/02/2020 18:03

YANBU at all! I thought the whole "No tights with open toes' rule had died out AGES ago? It's really common to wear black tights with strappy heels in London anyway, I see it all the time & it usually looks great.

What shape are the new shoes? What would you wear them with?

Obviously you should always generally wear whatever the fuck you want if it makes you feel good. You won't be lying on your deathbed wishing you had dressed to please others.

StCharlotte · 06/02/2020 18:17

But even better if you swap the black tights for some beautiful, (proper, knitted) socks that slouch somewhere between mid-heel and ankle

I have seen this look twice: one on a slightly mad female family member (they were toe socks at that!), the other in a "shop" window in Amsterdam (during the iffy Saturday afternoon shift in mid winter).

As for the OP you might get away with it if you're achingly trendy. In which case you wouldn't be asking and would just do it anyway.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/02/2020 18:19

I think the sjp pic works really well as her shoes are vibrant red - looks incredible

mollypuss1 · 06/02/2020 18:23

I always think this is the female equivalent of men wearing socks and sandals.

But, no one else’s opinion actually matters so wear what you want and don’t give a toss what anyone else thinks, including me.

Sometimes it looks ok if the open toed bit is small but otherwise it’s a bit too ‘bra straps with a halter neck’ for me

LaurieMarlow · 06/02/2020 19:04

The SJP pic looks great. It helps that the shoes are red.

I think I’ve done this (can’t actually remember, I definitely considered it) but with a pair of shoes where the peep toe was very small.

Who gives a fuck anyway OP. Do it if you want.

ellaandthebella · 06/02/2020 19:42

They are kind of like these but not quite as high and a slightly thicker heel.

I think that will be fine tbh.

FizzyIce · 06/02/2020 19:53

They’ll be ok .
I’m just jealous as I can’t wear heels anymore , got a shitty weak ankle

peachgreen · 06/02/2020 22:18

Yes, totally fine.

Ahitsallover · 06/02/2020 22:26

Lovely shoes. I think fine.

Aworldofmyown · 06/02/2020 22:27

I voted yabu because I thought you meant open toe tights!!!! Depends on the rest of the outfit, but you could get away with it.

Elouera · 06/02/2020 22:32

I personally would NEVER wear thick, black tights with a a peep-toe shoe, but each to their own. I too think of socks/sandals.

Why don't you just wear 2/3 pairs of those toe-less tights if you are cold? Or wear trousers with the shoes?

It won’t look bad at all, SJP proves it. I actually think it’s fashionable & a really smart look for a woman.
