My daughter will be 2, just.
It's my brother that's getting married.
I think this dress is absolutely gorgeous for my little girl to wear but DH thinks it's got too much white in it...

My 8 yo was so excited at being invited to a cousins wedding & we all had a laugh when she said she knew EXACTLY what she was going to wear and where to get it.
Rarely go shopping with her so that surprised us too- anyhow it was that exact dress OP - she had seen it walking outside the monsoon window & dreamt of wearing it- we made her dream come true , bought the dress and she was beautiful and blended in totally with all the other very well dressed glamorous guests & no one thought she was a FG.

McCanne · 08/02/2020 05:32

It’s beautiful and the kind of dress I’d pretty much expect any two year old girl to wear at a wedding

Aglet · 08/02/2020 07:46

Looks like a bridesmaid dress. Bit too dressy, but is beautiful.

Localocal · 09/02/2020 13:37

It's PERFECT. Your daughter will be adorable in it and as she is a close family member it's fine that it's fancy even if she isn't officially "in" the wedding party. You could check with the bride, but I'm sure she will say it's lovely. Because it is.

EntropyRising · 09/02/2020 13:43

I am really enjoying how Monsoon are being positioned as some great arbiter of THE TRUTH on here.

It’s just marketing

You've got it backwards, obviously. Companies like Monsoon devote considerable effort to categorising their products to make it easy for people to find what they're looking for, ie making money.

If they think it's a bridesmaid dress, there's an excellent chance that it matches the thinking of their target demographic.

LaurieMarlow · 09/02/2020 14:55

Did you read the post which points out it’s also classified as a baby girl dress and a party dress on their website.

Any girl attending a wedding should wear sackcloth and ashes. In fact if they aren't a bridesmaid or flowergirl they shouldn't attend just in case anyone might possibly one day think they were a bridesmaid or flowergirl.

Problem solved.

JosefKeller · 09/02/2020 16:00

yes, that's exactly what people are saying, well done you. Hmm

1forsorrow · 09/02/2020 16:02

I have never seen a bridesmaid wearing a patterned dress, let alone a ditsy print, pleated one like that. I’ve only ever seen plain or two coloured toned dresses. I used to work at weddings for years. Even with your vast experience you haven't been to every wedding have you. I've seen flower girls in dresses just like that, presumably because the bride didn't want them in a plain dress. Brides get to choose not people who work at weddings.

1forsorrow · 09/02/2020 16:04

JosefKeller well exactly, the fuss about a 2 year olds dress. Australia is burning, the corona virus is on the loose, plagues of locusts in Africa, storm Ciara hits the British Isles and the world will come to an end if a 2 year old wears a pretty dress.

People really need a bit of perspective, it is a pretty dress for a 2 year old.

Yurona · 09/02/2020 17:54

To be fair, nobody is going to think she’s a flowergirl. After about 5-10 minutes of looking cute, she’ll look like a stained, ripped mess, and people will just feel sorry for the girl. Its too long and too light coloured for a 2 year old. The hem will be ripped, the flowers pulled off and the top stained in no time at all

JosefKeller · 09/02/2020 18:23

1forsorrow

oh god, just read the thread, see what the problem is.

The dress is not appropriate and really is hideous!

LaurieMarlow · 09/02/2020 18:38

and really is hideous!

In fairness, no one cares what your personal opinion of the dress is.

I think you may have mentioned it upthread also?

iolaus · 09/02/2020 18:55

One of my favourite pictures from my BIL's wedding is my 4 year old son and his cousin who is the same age - she's in a white chiffony dress, which is covered with dark marks as the pair of them spent quite a while sat under the tables and running in and out - the photo was taken quite early in the day too - the pair of them were filthy by the end of the day

woodchuck99 · 09/02/2020 19:01

I think it's a lovely dress for a two year old. My DD had a similar one for a family wedding. You know your brother and your future sister-in-law so if you don't think they would mind (I don't see why they should) then I would buy it.

JosefKeller · 09/02/2020 23:17

LaurieMarlow
It's completely irrelevant if you care or not about my opinion Smile

BackforGood · 09/02/2020 23:33

But it does kind of scream, "I'm annoyed my DD wasn't ask to be a bridesmaid"

This ^

@watchcha and others have linked to lots of lovely dresses that don't look like bridesmaid dresses.

It won't reflect well upon you if you dress your dd as a bridesmaid when the bride has decided not to have any bridesmaids. I mean, why? Just why would you do that ? Confused

Ericaequites · 10/02/2020 00:57

Buy something appropriate for a toddler. Asmocked dress a size too big will look sweet, and will be useable and comfortable for other occasions.

Ericaequites · 10/02/2020 00:58

Print dresses show less dirt than plain ones.

Ilovemypantry · 10/02/2020 09:37

It’s your daughter, dress her as you wish. It’s a beautiful dress for a little girl and I really can’t see how anyone would have a problem with it.
This actually happened to me a few years ago when my daughter was six years old. My DH’s son got married abroad (we didn’t go to the wedding). They had an evening reception when they got back and my daughter wore a very pretty lemon colour dress. Afterwards, word got back to me that the bride was fuming at the dress because it looked a bit like a bridesmaid dress and all her friends were upset because there hadn’t been any bridesmaids at the actual wedding. I couldn’t believe how grown women could be so jealous at a little girl wearing a pretty little dress! People are so weird sometimes

cologne4711 · 10/02/2020 09:43

Moaning about a 6 year old wearing a dress at the reception that wasn't on the same day or in the same venue as the wedding?

Shock

Oh well it just shows how perfect their lives must be when all they have to worry about is a small girl at their wedding wearing a dress they wouldn't have chosen for her. Lets hope their lives stay so easy.

woodchuck99 · 10/02/2020 11:50

But it does kind of scream, "I'm annoyed my DD wasn't ask to be a bridesmaid

Not on a two year old. They aren't usually bridesmaids anyway.

Snaga · 11/02/2020 10:30

@SpokeTooSoon I didn't though. It was just a pretty dress. My sister is batshit crazy and took exception to something that most little girls would wear as a party dress/wedding guest dress

Very similar to this sort of style media.monsoon.co.uk/medias/sys_master/9475899621406.jpg but in pinks and with no sleeves. (She still likes stupid pink flouncy clothes...definitely not following me!)

I didn't think it was remotely "bridesmaid" nor did anyone else. My sister just didn't want any attention away from her. Some brides are fucking mental and will take offence at anything that doesn't suit their agenda.

Dick move my arse! Stop projecting your issues on others.

DrivingMsCrazy · 11/02/2020 10:47

I think you look like you think she should have been asked to be a flower girl and you are now trying to slide her into a non-existant flower girl role.

^exactly this.

Hepsibar · 11/02/2020 10:57

Very pretty and adorable but not sure how comfortable so I agree with the folks who said bring a change of clothes of something more comfortable after the ceremony and photos at the reception so she can enjoy a play.
