Things that have been ruined by other people doing them to

Was thinking this today when driving to work and taking one of my little shortcuts to beat the traffic. Only bloody everyone knows the shortcuts now so it doesn’t work! Damn them!

Anyone else care to share things that were great until other people got involved? Grin

My favourite holiday place, off the beaten track and very quiet normally. Last time I went it was heaving.

sunfloweryy · 05/02/2020 19:39

Charity shops! I've always loved them, people going on about only buying second hand, I've been doing that for years

DefConOne · 05/02/2020 19:43

My favourite beach in Cornwall. Always wondered why if wasn’t more popular, abc really pleased it wasn’t. Then Jamie Oliver discoverer it. Ruined.

IDontDrinkTea · 05/02/2020 19:44

Zoflora. Then mrs hinch became a thing and now Tesco’s is always sold out

tealandteal · 05/02/2020 19:44

If I ever find a new hairdresser, restaurant, spa, church, anything!! My mum will want to to do that too. Last time I went for a relaxing massage only to run in to my mother!

My favourite beach for decades down in Cornwall swum off it every month of the year. Have good old friends (and late departed loved friends). Then it was discovered. Went ballistic. It’s still ok now (was there last weekend - alone swimming but pretty much gone and a memory so far as spring/summer are concerned.
Luckily I know of others nearly as lovely and still quiet.

London on the weekend. I live very central and think back to 80s 90s when it was silent on Sunday and really quiet on Saturdays other than some streets. Heaving now.

Some clothes I really liked. A total bitch from my school started wearing it. Not it is "clothes bitches wear".

There used to be a fantastic short cut on my way to work through a part of the new forest then it started appearing on satnavs, which meant that one evening when there was an accident on the main road a car towing a caravan decided to use the short cut and got stuck. The whole village came to a standstill for 3 hours.

Drinking gin. I’ve been a gin drinker for 25+ years, now all of a sudden it’s popular, doused in neon sugar mixers and twice the price.

Using the internet Sad.

NightsOfCabiria · 05/02/2020 20:01

The internet in the late nineties!

So much good, free information. Little or no advertising. No clicky boxes, T&Cs, cookies, viruses, pop up videos etc.. You did have to use dial up connection though which took forever.

Other road users. The roads in the 1970s/1980s were great. Hardly any traffic, free, plentiful parking. Loads of laybyes /parking/ resting areas for campfires and picnicking.

This happens a lot with bands I like. With some of them I've been able to see them in small venues with good sound systems... Then all of a sudden they become so popular they only play arenas and I can't afford to go see them anymore!

vampirethriller · 05/02/2020 20:04

Gin. I drank it for years, everyone laughed and told me it was for old women, now the same people are posting bloody unicorn flavour gin all over fb every weekend. (I'm teetotal now but it's the principle.)

NightsOfCabiria · 05/02/2020 20:05

The Lake district/Venice/Barcelona

Ruined by coach loads of tourists in massive white coaches or cruise liners.

sunfloweryy · 05/02/2020 20:07

Yes to the gin one! I find ordering a G&T so stressful now that there’s a billion options. Just give me a plain one god dammit.

I have Coeliac disease and Slimming World and Weight Watchers both made certain hard to find gluten free products low points or healthy extras or whatever so a load of people that have absolutely NO problems with gluten started to bulk buy them meaning that those of us who can’t eat gluten had to go without.

More recently, people without gluten problems hogging the yellow stickered Made Without Wheat food in M&S. You can tell because as soon as they’ve grabbed all the gluten free lasagne or pizza they move on to the yellow stickered stuff that is full of gluten. They can eat anything the lucky buggers.

Maggiethehorserustler · 05/02/2020 20:09

@recrudescence 😂😂😂

squashyhat · 05/02/2020 20:14

I dread this happening to a local music festival. First year - quite low key but quirky and fun with a few highlight acts. Last year - much busier but still a great atmosphere, lots of well-known bands for the genre and I could get to see everyone I wanted to close up, no problems parking or getting out afterwards. I'm really hoping the organisers this year keep it to a reasonable size and don't let it's success ruin what attracted punters in the first place. Otherwise it will have to be my last Sad

Curiouschlo · 05/02/2020 20:14

Mrs hinch recommending everything in bluddy Asda. Seriously did none of us no how to use disinfectant and sponges before her. Now I hate buying stuff that would make me look like a hincher. Eughhh

AgeLikeWine · 05/02/2020 20:17

Avocados. I have always loved them, and always eaten them. Then they became trendy and the price went through the roof....
