Was thinking this today when driving to work and taking one of my little shortcuts to beat the traffic. Only bloody everyone knows the shortcuts now so it doesn’t work! Damn them!

Anyone else care to share things that were great until other people got involved? Grin

Yeah I agree about the east end. The house my grandad was born in is now a trendy wine bar Sad The house my mum grew up in sold went for £1.8m last year. They always thought it was a dump.

sunfloweryy · 06/02/2020 16:40

Yep again to the photography. I wonder how many people would actually do certain things/go certain places if they weren’t allowed to take photos.

oh photos definitely so many being taken i see people posing and taking selfies just bloody look at where you are for a change

ShiftyLookingBadger · 06/02/2020 19:15

Puffy shoulder sleeves. Totally my look but now they're everywhere 🤨

Also, my daughter's unusual name is predicted to be very popular this year (like from 250 down to 5 or something) 😡

handbagsatdawn33 · 06/02/2020 19:34

My favourite restaurant was not on Trip Advisor.
So I wrote a good review & now can't get a table when I want one !

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 06/02/2020 19:43

Cheaper cuts of meat-I used to buy these cuts because they were much cheaper, then some celebrity chef made them all trendy and the price went up.
Chicken/beef stock etc- now being called "bone broth" and super trendy with healthy paleo types. I, and my mum have been making our own for decades!
Kilmer/Mason jars-I used to can and pickle stuff about 20 odd years ago....then it got trendy and jars cost a small fortune now.
Reusing and recycling- urgh some of us have been doing this for a very long time. People would mock us for doing this and accuse me of being tight.

GoodnightJude1 · 06/02/2020 19:50

Another one for Gin!
I’ve always been a G&T drinker...Gordon’s or Bombay Sapphire with tonic. All my mates laughed. For years. Got all the ‘mothers ruin’ jokes and told I was like their granny.
Now they’re all drinking unicorn/rhubarb/violet gin with LEMONADE Shock
It’s put me off. I stick to wine now.

Oh and that stupid cover of Wonderwall on the recent Renault Clio advert.
Leave it to Liam and Noel. Please.

Thebishopofbanterbury · 06/02/2020 19:51

All these things are due to our planet being over populated now, nothing anyone can do about that!

morrisseysquif · 06/02/2020 20:04

@SonEtLumiere

True, and then friends /family start running because you inspired them, then they follow you on Strava when you don't really want to be followed or to follow anybody but ignoring would be weird and before you know it they are running 5ks and 10k so much faster and doing all these fisty pumps with selfies, facebooking runs and tagging you and worst of all they go on and on and on about running whenever you see them when it used to be the thing you did to get away from people in the first place......

And breathe!

Claphands · 06/02/2020 20:09

Loads of things!

Driving around London and actually being able to park

The Victoria line being blissfully empty early in the morning

A certain scene I’m involved in, our friends partner has now got into it and has to outdo everyone else by buying rare stuff and being everyone’s best friend 😡

Gigs-rare you can run down the front these days

GabsAlot · 06/02/2020 20:22

im actually glad about gigs being more restricted i used to queue for hours only for some twat to edge in just because theyre taller than me

LatteLady · 06/02/2020 20:23

Let's start with gin, had my first in December 1979, now all and sundry drink artisan versions with assorted debris in their glasses.

Next East London, lived there from 1978, wierd veggies flown in and proper curry houses with nothing changed for a British palate.

Prosecco, discovered in Italy in the mid 90s, just me buying it until every bugger and his wife went to Umbria.

Knitting, I started over 50 years ago, but people who have been at it for five minutes try selling me badly written patterns which have never seen a technical editor.

And finally, but most annoying to me, the hun and babe brigade who make things badly, when I have spent years learning how to make stuff properly and they claim that their badly made tat is artisan or totally handmade, it isn't, it is crap and they should be called out on these tasteless badly made tat... the pompom has a lot to answer for!

CoffeeRunner · 06/02/2020 20:37

Aldi for me too.

When our store first opened (2002) it was very underused. Could get in & out with a trolley full of shopping for £30 in 20 minutes.

Now it’s still excellent value, but so busy that certain things are often out of stock & the queues are often pretty horrendous.

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2020 20:53

The slowing down a song thing is pretty annoying : the car ad with Wonderwall is terrible. Goes on mute. Everyone was at it on X factor years back ; ' your the one that I want' slowed down was a low. 😂

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/02/2020 21:15

Normally slowed down and sung by a girl with a create your vocal. Looking at you Ellie. God it’s so cringe and cliched. Advertising people are supposed to be original. It’s been done to death.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/02/2020 21:17

A breathy vocal. Damn you autocorrect.

whippetwoman · 06/02/2020 21:18

My own name. I am 48 but for years I only ever met one person with my name. About 25 years ago I became aware it was more popular and now it’s ridiculous and nearly always the most popular girls name. Everyone has ruined my name!

NameChange84 · 06/02/2020 21:22

The only Olivia in my school year feels like that @whippetwoman

whippetwoman · 06/02/2020 21:25

@NameChange84 ha! My exact name!

CornishPorsche · 06/02/2020 21:33

Military Wives Choir was ruined for me when a woman who was basically stalking me at everything I went to suddenly appeared there too. I stopped going there, as well as to a motorcycle club I was a member of, various pubs and restaurants, and blocked her on every online platform I could think of.

She still contacted me via LinkedIn Hmm but I can't rejoin anything as she still goes to them all 😭

Blingismything · 06/02/2020 21:56

Le Chameau wellies, Birkenstocks, retro trainers.

My daughter's name, people were very sniffy (old lady vibes, not in a good way) when we proudly announced it, now it is a top ten name.

Electric cars, adult scooters, Jo Malone perfume.

justasking111 · 06/02/2020 22:15

Offshore sailing gear, Regatta then Henri Lloyd went all trendy and the quality dropped. Barbour, their waxed jackets now so short your bum and top of thighs get wet.

GabsAlot · 06/02/2020 22:58

yes ellie gouldng thats not singing its talking its like she cant breathe

Pinkcat231 · 06/02/2020 23:46

The theatre.

All for it being more accessible but so many large groups getting drunk before/in the interval and acting like they’re at a gig or trendy people checking themselves in on social media then spending the actual performance playing with their phone I begrudge paying the often crazy prices for a decent ticket now.

lemontreebird · 07/02/2020 00:13

My parents decided that Cornwall was too busy for holidays in about 1971.

And I think I remember reading how 'charabancs' were ruining Devon/Cornwall in the '20s and '30s.
