Things that have been ruined by other people doing them to

Was thinking this today when driving to work and taking one of my little shortcuts to beat the traffic. Only bloody everyone knows the shortcuts now so it doesn’t work! Damn them!

Anyone else care to share things that were great until other people got involved? Grin

Pubs. You used to be able to go dahn the boozer...and just have a drink and a chat. Everywhere does utterly mediocre food now. I don't want a meal, I want a gin and tonic and a natter. Stop making it a food opportunity, we are all too fat as it is.

Yes yes yes!! The general ubiquity of food these days really gets on my wick, as does the way virtually every pub these days is more like a restaurant than a true pub. I actually feel like cheering whenever I discover a pub that doesn't do food.

And when you do want a pub meal, it should be exactly that, pub grub. Not some 7 calorie meal from a menu that contains the words 'infused' or 'quinoa', artfully arranged on old roof tiles.

Festivals.

When you realised every dull boy and girl in the office were ‘heading to Glasto’, when girls started taking hair straighteners and magazines began featuring ‘festival fashion’. And then came the wanky boutique camping for people who can’t cope with a couple of nights roughing it a bit.

I love a fishbowl of hipster grapefruit gin!

You can keep your sad little glass with 1 ice cube Grin

I avoid crowds to the extent that I often stay at home and go to those restaurants/walks etc nearby that I can be sure are quiet.

I have totally gone off flying too, just too awful now, but cannot put my finger on what it is (queues? Crowds? Tiny seats? Just too many other people?)

Having blue/other non natural colour hair. I've been back to relatively normal for several years.

Gin. When everybody else has moved on to rum (again) or brandy, I'll be quite happy with my ice cold Plymouth and most of my teeth as I won't have rotted them away on fruit flavoured sugar with added alcohol

Cider. It's now rancid fruit flavours, tooth achingly sweet and crap quality. Lumpy scrumpy with a proper bite is what I miss, along with proper Perry - NOT pear cider.

Chicken thighs, lamb neck fillet, pork tenderloin, sieved tomato (was 33p in a tetrapak, now it's two quid plus and labelled Passata).

Tins of Mackerel. They've been ruined because people wanted to have oily fish but couldn't get their little heads around the idea that the bones were edible AND a vital source of calcium. Now you just get soggy fillets slopping around in a tin of goop.
