To have only just noticed this about Cadbury chocolate??

I have seen a lot on Mumsnet previously about Cadbury chocolate changing and not being nice, but I still thought it was nice up until literally now!

Last week I bought a creme egg, which was seriously horrible, but put it down to a bad batch maybe? Just opened a bag of mini eggs and they are foul! They even smell strange.

So have they changed the recipe yet again?

Also wtf happened to Toblerone? I never thought I would throw away chocolate but I had a little Toblerone just before Christmas and put it in the bin after two bites. It used to be the best treat - I remember DH bringing me a huge bar in hospital after I’d had DS and how delicious it was. Now it doesn’t taste of chocolate at all!

okiedokieme · 05/02/2020 20:37

The mini eggs tasted foul this year. Luckily Aldi's taste great. I love mini eggs

Walkerbean16 · 05/02/2020 20:40

Omg i just remembered the taste if original mini eggs. Heaven! Won't est them now they taste like crap!

I came on to recommend Tony's Chocolonley chocolate but others have beaten me too it!

Arrowfanatic · 05/02/2020 20:45

I find chocolate just plasticky now, oily not that melt in the mouth it used to be

My DH bought me a chocolate orange at xmas & I cant finish it as it's just like oil.

According to MailOnline, the chemical found in Hershey's chocolate, vomit, parmesan cheese and sour butter is called butyric acid. ... They also claim the butyric acid — which gives vomit its acidic smell and taste — gives American chocolate its "tangy" flavor.25 Jan 2017

Cadbury’s have attempted to entice back the ‘older’ buyers by bringing out the Darkmilk bar, which doesn’t have palm oil in it. I’ve tried it but wasn’t wowed, if it’s on offer I’d buy it but wouldn’t seek it out.

So I’m now a massive fan of Willie’s cacao bars as their main ingredient is cocoa, rather than sugar, and there aren’t a lot of mainstream manufacturers that do that anymore! They’re expensive but because they’re strong chocolate you’re left with your sweet tooth satisfied!!

everydaypilates · 05/02/2020 20:48

Has anyone suggested Chocolonely?

Best chocolate I've had in years. £3.50 a bar, but so worth it

Nutellalovesme · 05/02/2020 20:50

I don't think I have ever knowingly eaten American chocolate so I don't know what it tastes like but have heard people say it tastes like vomit

HavenDilemma · 05/02/2020 20:50

@JessJonesJumps I melted some dairy milk earlier and it was beautiful and smooth? Sounds like you melted it for too long? It will crystallize if it's heated too much

Mummyshark2018 · 05/02/2020 20:51

I do find I'm unsatisfied after eating either Cadbury's or galaxy chocolate these days. Lindt is nicer and creamier.

anothermamaa · 05/02/2020 20:54

Omg yes!!!! I haven't eaten it in ages and this week I suddenly had a hankering for a fruit and nut bar and it tasted disgusting !! I thought it was off but this thread has enlightened me. I did buy some Cadbury buttons earlier to test and they taste more normal... have they just changed the chocolate in some products???

WooMaWang · 05/02/2020 20:58

Tony's chocolonely is really nice. Buy that instead.

Hairwizard · 05/02/2020 20:58

@Killerqueen2244
I was coming on to mention willies cacao!! Discovered when i bought dp a coffee subscription last year, there was a box of the single estate bars in with first delivery. Now that is fucking tasty choc i have to say.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 05/02/2020 20:58

Lindt is the only chocolate worth eating these days.

Mrsbadger77 · 05/02/2020 21:04

I'm glad somebody suggested Tony's Chocolonely. It's lovely and also ethical.

FreakStar · 05/02/2020 21:06

Someone starts a thread about Cadbury every few weeks. The truth is Dairy milk has always contained vegetable fat. When we joined the Eu in 1973 there were discussions about whether dairy milk could be exported under the name of Chocolate because of this. EU regulations state it can only contain 5% or less vegetable fat so there isn't all that much in there. Claiming you can taste the palm fat is just the current fashionable thing to say - it's probably always had this in but regulations recently require the fat to be named on the label- that's the only difference.

hottielottie · 05/02/2020 21:19

Seen a TV programme a while ago where Cadbury's were tampering with the sugar content to bring it in line with governments 'reduced sugar' target date / new law / rules.

FreakStar · 05/02/2020 21:22

Cadbury's have released a reduced sugar dairy milk bar- they haven't changed the original bar though- it's a whole new separate bar!

TatianaLarina · 05/02/2020 21:26

Cadbury’s has always been rank.

It’s just brands like Green and Black’s, Lindt etc became widely available and people realised what decent chocolate tastes like.

Now they can’t go back.

CooCooCoo · 05/02/2020 21:28

Keen to try Love Cocoa after I saw it on Dragons Den. Does anyone else rate it?

Interesting about flake, does that apply to twirls too ?

SapphireSeptember · 05/02/2020 21:29

I gave up on Cadbury's years ago, ditto Galaxy. Aldi, Lidl, and Waitrose do much nicer (palm oil free) chocolate, I love Hotel Chocolat (I live near their factory shop where I can find bargains and strange things) and Montezuma's chocolate is good too. I dunno if it's an age thing but I dislike overly sweet chocolate now, I'd prefer higher cocoa percentage milk chocolate.

I can't taste palm oil, I can feel it though. Weird but true. I've been avoiding it for about four years now, I can definitely tell if something has it in it.

CooCooCoo · 05/02/2020 21:31

I also heard chocolate fingers were fine but the mini ones always taste hideous, truly disgusting

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2020 21:32

Cadbury's used to be a comfort food I went to when I needed TLC..I'd have curry and Dairy Milk and Vicks; all things which reminded me of childhood.

Dairy milk just doesn't t cut it now though. Tony chocoloni isn't bad, and actually better than Hotel Chocolate

FreakStar · 05/02/2020 21:32

Tony's chocolate is really nice- the pattern on the bar is so annoying though because you can't break off a nice square piece- it's impossible not to end up with a mess and random big and small pieces. It won't even break along the lines either! Angry

It’s palm oil. Spoils the chocolate.
Happened to terry oranges too.
