To have only just noticed this about Cadbury chocolate??

I have seen a lot on Mumsnet previously about Cadbury chocolate changing and not being nice, but I still thought it was nice up until literally now!

Last week I bought a creme egg, which was seriously horrible, but put it down to a bad batch maybe? Just opened a bag of mini eggs and they are foul! They even smell strange.

So have they changed the recipe yet again?

I've not liked Cadbury's for years. It's the texture and it tastes really cheap

NightsOfCabiria · 05/02/2020 19:38

Cadbury’s is shit now.

It leaves a burning tang in my mouth which makes my poor saliva glads go into overdrive. So unpleasant. It doesnt melt in your mouth either.

The James Cadbury chocolate just tastes like any other cheap chocolate - a bit like M&S.

The best milk chocolate is Swiss. Proper, milky, sweet, smooth chocolate.

It's funny that cadbury have been using palm oil for the last 10 years at least but only the bast 2/3 people have been moaning about it... Hmm people have become very woke since that advert.

I remember as a child that DM had to use the brass poker to break up the gorgeous thick slab of Cadbury's we were treated to at Christmas - admittedly the house was probably colder than nowadays with central heating but it was definitely thicker and more solid than today's offering.

NightsOfCabiria · 05/02/2020 19:52

Oh god yes, I wish they'd stop the ‘Golden’ egg / ‘winning’ egg thing. Last year, every egg I saw on display had been unwrapped and re-wrapped by shop staff.

I had to resort to buying the sealed boxes of six! Grin

NightsOfCabiria · 05/02/2020 19:54

@cortex10 Yes, i remember that too. How thick but flakey it was and the wonderful smell as you unfolded the wrapper. It was almost powdery.

I’d happily pay £1 a bar for the original recipe.

Durgasarrow · 05/02/2020 19:54

In the US Philadelphia cream cheese comes in a foil wrapper and is firm.
I know Brits don't like Hersheys (I don't like any milk chocolate--I am a chocolate snob), but FYI it is not because there is less actual chocolate or that it is an inferior product. The only difference in ingredients is that Britain allows 5 percent of non-cocoa vegetable fats (i.e; palm oil) while the U.S. does not.

Moonlight .was James Cadbury the guy that secured funding from the Dragons Den? If so ,hopefully some of his sweet stuff may make an appearance in Waitrose maybe? I prefer Galaxy ,and always have TBH. It has a creamy texture and is delicious ! Minstrels are the best thing ever! Ideal for the cinema as wont melt! (obv everyone agrees with me ,as Sainsburys had an offer on ,big bag down fron £1.50 to £1.00!) Got the last bag (well pleased!)

Bubblemonkey · 05/02/2020 20:01

Is it just my fat arse who doesn’t taste the difference?Grin

Stickybeaksid · 05/02/2020 20:03

I was given a bar of Tony’s chocoloney pretzel one last week. It is now all I can think about. It’s really hard to get in IrelandSad

catsmother · 05/02/2020 20:09

Quite apart from the utterly revolting flavour what really pisses me off about Cadbury is their refusal to admit the recipe's changed. Do they think so many customers can't work this out for themselves? It's not as if we're suffering some sort of (palm oil induced) mass hysteria? ...... I immediately realised they'd changed it the very first time I tasted the new 'chocolate', long before I'd read anyone else complaining about it. Their whole attitude is intelligence insulting and I genuinely wonder who's buying it - and presumably enjoying it?!? ...... maybe it's customer base now is children under 10 who've never known any different ....

badg3r · 05/02/2020 20:10

It's the palm oil. I can't stand it, it feels like swallowing a slimy hangover poo 🤮

(Not that I have actually tried to do this!)

catsmother · 05/02/2020 20:11

its customer base (not it's)

Halloweenbabyy · 05/02/2020 20:12

Tastes the same to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

ScreamingLadySutch · 05/02/2020 20:13

We have a patriotic duty to boycott Cadburys and absolutely refuse to buy it!

It was lovely in the old days ...

Lindt doesn't have palm oil.

Stickybeaksid · 05/02/2020 20:17

@badg3r a slimey hangover poo is the most vile but accurate description Of all time. I am part laughing part getting sick in my mouth.

Lily193 · 05/02/2020 20:19

Reading this thread had just made me place an order for Cadbury's Black Forest. Delicious! Haven't thought about that for absolutely ages.

Cherry678 · 05/02/2020 20:21

Just into a bag of mini eggs now... yes they're nowhere near as indulgent as they used to be and it's pretty unfair you still have to pay a higher price for crapper ingredients!

SevenStones · 05/02/2020 20:22

I had a bar of American chocolate when I was in the US a few years ago. It tasted like vomit - in much the same way those alcopops of years ago did. I didn't eat chocolate for a year because of it. I could really do with a bar of American chocolate in my life right now!

FreakStar · 05/02/2020 20:26

@SerendipityJane- you gave up chocolate? Surely giving up or making your own are not the only options. There's plenty of good quality chocolate available in the shops without having to make your own!

TedsFederationRep · 05/02/2020 20:27

Cadbury's hasn't been the same for years.

TheDarkPassenger · 05/02/2020 20:28

Is it just me who prefers it now? 😂😂

DevonCat · 05/02/2020 20:31

I usually have a Freddo Frog every evening after dinner and they still seem OK. Had a bar of Dairy Milk (in the new weird shape) at the weekend and it was rank.

mathanxiety · 05/02/2020 20:34

The mini eggs and Philadelphia cheese in the US haven't changed. I rarely buy Philadelphia brand though - there are equally nice and far cheaper non-branded alternatives. I don't know about the creme eggs - they tend to be a seasonal thing and Easter isn't upon us yet.

Give me Aldi's Moser Roth or Choceur choc any day though. What I get in the US is made in Germany. Also Milka, which is owned by Kraft (which is now called Mondelez btw) but iirc made in Germany.

Lockheart · 05/02/2020 20:35

I've loved mini eggs and creme eggs since I was tiny and I can honestly say I've noticed bugger all difference, apart from the number of mini eggs in a bag shrinking...
