To have only just noticed this about Cadbury chocolate??

I have seen a lot on Mumsnet previously about Cadbury chocolate changing and not being nice, but I still thought it was nice up until literally now!

Last week I bought a creme egg, which was seriously horrible, but put it down to a bad batch maybe? Just opened a bag of mini eggs and they are foul! They even smell strange.

So have they changed the recipe yet again?

@PineappleDanish Kraft is also responsible for the Philadelphia debacle.

Caspianberg · 05/02/2020 16:57

Best mini eggs now are M and S own. or they were last year (unless they too have changed recipes)

HmmIsThisAGoodIdea · 05/02/2020 16:58

This is hilarious. Google adwords fail?

Rich Chocolate from Lidl is the only chocolate for eating right now. For cakes/cooking I find a mix of 1/3 dark to 2/3 milk of the aldi cheap chocolate works well.

US company buys out UK company and ruins the product.
US chocolate is vile.

Nat6999 · 05/02/2020 17:02

Cadbury's chocolate tastes awful since they started putting palm oil in it, not smooth & creamy like it used to. Galaxy isn't any better.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/02/2020 17:04

I had some caramel buttons earlier. Was looking forward to them but I nearly threw them across the fucking room in disappointment.

Hopefully not an analogy for Brexit!

Fromage · 05/02/2020 17:11

I no longer buy Cadbury's chocolate because it's now weirdy tasting slimy sludge.

I am astonished that without my custom they are still in business.

RIP Dairy Milk

SerendipityJane · 05/02/2020 17:14

Give up chocolate? I don't think so. Save up and buy some decent chocolate as an occasional treat instead, if you're lucky enough to be able to visit a good chocolatier.

Chocolate isn't essential to civilised life - it's possible to go without. Now a glass of wine with a meal on the other hand ....

katy1213 · 05/02/2020 17:19

After decades of loving creme eggs, I have decided - never again! Whatever they've done to the recipe, it's disgusting.

Topseyt · 05/02/2020 17:19

Cadbury's has gone seriously downhill in recent years and I no longer buy it at all.

I find home brands from Tesco, Lidl and Aldi much better now. Those are what we usually have.

I thought Cadbury's was now mostly made by Mondelez in Poland. At least, it was the last time I read a packet. Have Kraft idiots changed it yet again?

I always hated creme eggs by the way, too sickly sweet for me. The rest of Cadbury's was always lovely though when I was a child and young adult. No longer, alas.

Roomba · 05/02/2020 17:21

I love that I'm getting a massive 'Win a box of Creme Eggs!' advert in the middle of this thread. No thanks, they're shit now.

JessJonesJumps · 05/02/2020 17:30

The PP who said about the problems trying to get it to melt - thank you! I've been struggling to work out why it's impossible to use in pancakes, etc, now. It goes grainy and crystallises. For some reason, I never linked it to the new recipe. But that makes a lot of sense.

TurquoiseDress · 05/02/2020 17:31

I can't bear most of Cadburys "chocolate"- it just does not taste like the real stuff!

Don't like the thought of my DC growing up thinking that Cadburys is real chocolate, because it really does not taste like it!

prefer dark chocolate any day

TurquoiseDress · 05/02/2020 17:32

The only thing I do really like are the Creme eggs!

Not had one in ages, suspect I might be very disappointed now!

thenightsky · 05/02/2020 17:33

You actually have to chew Cadbury chocolate nowadays in order to be able to swallow it. It doesn't melt any more. Plus it doesn't actually taste much of chocolate.

zen1 · 05/02/2020 17:33

It’s definitely changed. To me it tastes like grease and sugar made into a bar. I can’t taste any coco.

jackparlabane · 05/02/2020 17:36

If chocolate has palm oil/vegetable oil in it, don't buy it.

The Lidl stuff that costs about a pound a bar is good. The really cheap stuff at half the price isn't.

BatShite · 05/02/2020 17:36

Are wispas cadbury? I swear, they say nothings changed but the new wispas taste absolutely nothing like they used to Sad

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/02/2020 17:36

I haven't eaten cadburys chocolate since production moved out of our town. It was a major employer.

BreatheAndFocus · 05/02/2020 17:37

The new recipe Creme Eggs are revolting 🤮 I’d read about the recipe change and was prepared for them to taste a bit ‘meh’ but they are utterly, utterly disgusting. I threw mine in the bin after one vile bite.

I used to love them and look forward to buying boxes of the things, but now I feel ill looking at them.

Milk Tray is horrible now too - awful chocolate and yucky flavours that are mainly a variation of caramel. They used to be a treat.

Dairy Milk itself tastes weird and I hate the new shape. Why do it? Why ruin a good brand?

Synecdoche · 05/02/2020 17:38

I had some Bournville buttons last year and they have me the shits Grin

I like Morrisons own dark chocolate, lindt and green and blacks velvet though

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 05/02/2020 17:40

Because they replaced the bulk of the cocoa butter with cheaper palm fat

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 05/02/2020 17:40

Argh it's so frustrating Angry I remember even as you opened it, it would smell divine. Doesn't even have the nice smell anymore. I do really like monser Roth choc to be fair but I just want Cadbury how it used to be! They have the monopoly in most shops and they bloody well shouldn't now they've wrecked it!
