Ghosted... slightly petty revenge

Nickynackynoodle · 04/02/2020 14:28

I've been ghosted by someone I had quite a long relationship with, long story short he's met someone super cool and fucked off with her, quite literally overnight. She's very well connected and is helping him with his future business plans which are admittedly very exciting.

I'm pretty pissed off (and heartbroken) as I have been essentially used for the last 12 months in a number of ways so... I have bought the www. domain names and set up social media accounts in the names that he was planning to use for his exciting business.

I probably ABU but I have long evenings alone now when I used to have someone in my life, I'm being highly self disciplined in not contacting him... I'm enjoying seeing him look at the banal stuff I'm posting on insta, trying to work out who's stolen his names.

If he tries to buy the domain names I will absolutely sell them and not at a profit, same as if he asks for the social media names. I just vainly hope that he will realise life won't always go his way because he's so fucking handsome and charming.

I'm getting over it btw, I don't want relationship advice!

@Nickynackynoodle Can any of the domains be hyphenated?
Make sure you get those ;)

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/02/2020 16:58

@MouseTails that brilliant

katkit · 04/02/2020 17:01

@AmIAWeed ooh I see- reasonable. I might register my exe’s domain names.

Uttertosser.com

Selfishwanker.co.uk

Queenoftheashes · 04/02/2020 17:01

Def profit you may as well come out of this paid!

Jaxhog · 04/02/2020 17:02

I'd be tempted! Even though it might end in hassle, it might be worth it for some excellent short term feeling of satisfaction.

conduitoffortune · 04/02/2020 17:06

I hope you get loads of followers, meet someone much more awesome than him, and that this well connected woman ghosts him :)

AmIAWeed · 04/02/2020 17:07

@Katkit don't forget:
utter-tosser.com
utter-tosser.co.uk
uttertosser.co.uk
utter-tosser.net
uttertosser.net

It soon adds up!!
I have learnt the hard way through work to cover every single base, as opposed to revenge to get every possible alternative, Otherwise a dickhead of a competitor will....

TwentyViginti · 04/02/2020 17:08

Such elegant revenge OP! I love it!

harriethoyle · 04/02/2020 17:09

This is genius

Upherefordancing · 04/02/2020 17:09

I think that's brilliant and so cool!!

But what a sh*t he is!! Let's hope you meet a gorgeous new man soon!!

Justasecondnow · 04/02/2020 17:10

What goes around come around Grin! He’s been a shit, he’s reaped the rewards of it. Not for ending things with you but how he went about it.

Considering you’ve just inconvenienced him & broken no laws I say let your little act of rebellion make you feel better! Then do your best to forget him. He sounds like he might be a bit of a user and you’re well shot of him.

katkit · 04/02/2020 17:10

@AmIAWeed youreagenius.com

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/02/2020 17:11

I think it's pretty mild tbh.

I'd have them ALL redirect to a page that says 'you utter prick'.

Magnificentme · 04/02/2020 17:11

@Nickynackynoodle Bloody brilliant 😂🤣
Well done 🙏

DarklyDreamingDexter · 04/02/2020 17:16

I take my hat off to you, OP, you’re a bloody star! Star Absolute genius. As previous posters have said, definitely make a profit in selling them back to him, why the hell not? And yes to hoovering up all the related domains like .net (plus all the new extensions which are out there these days which are relevant to his business.)

Jomarchsburntskirt · 04/02/2020 17:18

Petty.

maggieryan · 04/02/2020 17:19

brillant

Sickofrain · 04/02/2020 17:19

Well played OP. Cool, but not a doormat!

DaveTheDesigner · 04/02/2020 17:20

You'll be accused of cybersquatting and while not technically illegal they will demand you sell it to them at the base cost, I would assume providing they can prove they had set up their business in the same name as the domains you've bought. It'll be relatively easy to see the intent so that shouldn't be hard for them. A minor inconvenience maybe but probably not worth the hassle you'll be dragged into.

Most solicitors in the UK are set up to help people combat it like here for example: www.simpsonmillar.co.uk/business-legal-services/intellectual-property-law/cybersquatting/

I don't think it's worth the small satisfaction you hope to get, unfortunately.

CrazyToast · 04/02/2020 17:21

Hahha I like it, harmless enough but satisfying

lowlandLucky · 04/02/2020 17:23

Bloody fantastic, well done you. Ignore all the self righteous comments.
Sell at enough of profit and insist you get 1% of the annual profit, hopefully that will get you a great holiday every year Grin

Sagradafamiliar · 04/02/2020 17:26

Fucking sublime. Love it.

AmIAWeed · 04/02/2020 17:27

@DaveTheDesigner I believe it's only cyber squatting if you do nothing with it, additionally if this person hasn't yet registered their business then the OP can't be accused of cyber squatting. It only counts if a business is already registered with that name.

Very easy to get around, basic website which can simply be an advert or a picture

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/02/2020 17:30

Good for you!

He treated you appallingly, and now he's getting his comeuppance.

If you do sell the names to him - make him pay through the nose. I can see why you might not to profit by it, but there's n reason why some charity close to your heart needn't - you can donate your ill-gotten gains! Grin

DarklyDreamingDexter · 04/02/2020 17:36

Oh by the way, for those saying he could take you to court etc, yeah maybe he could technically. However, my company recently employed an intellectual property solicitor for something quite simple (not this exact scenario) and the bill was about £5k for a few letters plus legal advice. It didn’t cost the other party anything, they just had to agree not to carry on infringing our company’s intellectual property. We were advised that to take the case to court if we wanted to pursue it further would cost about £50k, so not tempting. That’s what he might have to do/spend in order to pursue you in court, so not something I’d lose sleep over in your shoes.
