Is it just me? I've heard rave reviews about her and I've tried many times but I just can't hear the words! Every time one of her songs comes on the radio I have to turn it up really loud and even then I can't understand a word!

OP posts:
Cacaca · 03/02/2020 19:08

No, because then she wouldn’t sound how she does and that’s part of her appeal. Not that I’m a fan.

busybarbara · 03/02/2020 19:09

That’s because we’re old and it’s not for us. My parents wished the opposite, why is Mick Jagger so loud they said

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 03/02/2020 19:14

I can understand her fine. But then I work with teenagers so maybe I'm just used to de-coding their muttering!

Sorry OP, couldn’t resist...

HoomanMoomin · 03/02/2020 19:30

Yabu.

I think she is amazing. I can hear the words perfectly and the lyrics are awesome. My daughter loves her too and we are going to see her when she is in the UK. Incredible talent at such a young age. Can’t wait to hear the James Bond theme tune she has written!

Davincitoad · 03/02/2020 20:28

I really dislike her and I don’t know why

DamnItsSevenAM · 03/02/2020 20:32

Yes!!! I also start ranting, "Stop whispering! Use your voice!" I'm sure she's amazing but that breathy non singing drives me mad.

CoffeeCoinneseur · 03/02/2020 20:33

YANBU. She needs to speak up and enunciate.

Skysblue · 03/02/2020 20:39

I can hear her fine 🤷‍♀️

ToEarlyForDecorations · 03/02/2020 20:44

I was going to ask what the mystery song was on my own, 'can anyone identify this song' thread.

Then I heard her voice on her current song and thought, ah, it's her. So I looked up her other work and the, 'creepy song' where I thought she was singing, 'it's maaaagic' is actually her singing, 'I'm the bad guy' because that's the song.

She's got a creepy voice and sings creepy songs. The lyrics of, 'I'm the bad guy' are crazy. Last years song, 'Juice' by Lizzo had loads of lyrics and was so busy it was impossible to sing along to, at least, was fun.

BetterWithCheddar · 03/02/2020 20:54

I'm old and have bad hearing and can understand her just fine. She is bloody brilliant.

Hoohaahoo · 03/02/2020 20:56

I can’t understand her either but I don’t think I’m her target market. I wish they did subtitles for songs.

Robstersgirl · 03/02/2020 20:58

I was in the mosh pit at Reading for her amazing performance last year. I’m 40. She’s such a breath of fresh air! YABVVVVVVVVVVVU

MintyMabel · 03/02/2020 20:59

I really don’t like her stuff. I can’t see why all the rave reviews about her being uber talented either.

There are loads of artists I’m not a fan of, but can see their talent in what they do. I just can’t see what marks her out from many other of today’s artists in terms of talent. She’s picked a vocal style that’s different but that doesn’t make her any more talented. Her lyrics are typical teen angst lightweight poetry.

She’s got a good agent who has promoted her well.

BohoBunney · 03/02/2020 21:00

Not my music at all but she’s obviously doing something right to have such a following / loads of awards and basically kicking arse and taking names.

Time40 · 03/02/2020 21:01

I'm very old, and I can understand her! She's great - I love her songs.

PhoenixIsFlying · 03/02/2020 21:05

Inspirational young lady. She also has Tourette’s which she has only just mentioned as she did not want this to define her. It opened up a great discussion with my daughter who has Asperger and she has found her really inspirational. She is so talented and deserves winning five Grammy awards. “Billie Eilish swept the board at the 2020 Grammys, winning five awards, including best new artist and song of the year. The 18-year-old also won album of the year for her debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go.”

U2HasTheEdge · 03/02/2020 21:07

Love her.. Big fan at aged 38.

DearHappy · 03/02/2020 21:08

I think she’s great and I can hear the words. It’s Adele and Sam Smith I can’t understand a word of.

AlpacaGoodnight · 03/02/2020 21:18

Not a fan of her music at all, It just makes me want to scream stop whispering! Now I just turn the radio over anytime she comes on, which seems to be almost constantly!

UnrulyPig · 03/02/2020 21:18

I love her. I'm 47 this year. Ds (16) and I had tickets to see her in London this summer but he's now going on holiday with his gf...so I'm going with my DP instead Grin

I think she's fabulous. Love how she completely rejects the stereotypical image of a female singer. Hugely talented, imo.

FizzyIce · 03/02/2020 21:21

She’s great , I can hear her fine

BlythesEyes · 03/02/2020 21:21

I have only recently discovered her and think she's amazing. I'm in my 50's and understand her words perfectly.
