To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

Apologies - but 2-3 washes a week for a family of 5 sounds a bit dodgy too!

Lauren83 · 03/02/2020 16:49

We do one a day - 2 adults a toddler and a baby

ColourMyDreams · 03/02/2020 16:52

Usually one load every 2-3 days. There is just me and the husband now, when the kids were at home it was around 5-6 loads a day in two washing machines.

sandybanana · 03/02/2020 16:52

Usually two loads a day.

Weekends more as I change bedding etc

Bipbipbipbip · 03/02/2020 16:53

2 adults & 1 toddler
Weekly
3 loads of "regular" clothes - one white, one dark and one colours
2 towels/flannels etc

Fortnightly
Bedding

Extras
jeans wash every 2-3 weeks
Woolies every 2-3 weeks in the cold months
all the odd things that need to be washed on a lower temp/handwashing every 3-4 weeks

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 16:54

I also don't understand op how towels and bedding all fits in same machine. I have a super king full bedding set, single bedding set, a cot set and crib set as well as additional blankets. My 9kg machine would never fit all that. When I was the master bedroom bedding even that has to be done in two halves.

Yubaba · 03/02/2020 16:56

Family of 5, my washer is on at least once a day. I have a 10kg machine.
I do weekly
2x darks
2x white
1x light
2x towels
And 1x bedding, Plus a delicate/woollen wash as needed

Charlottejade89 · 03/02/2020 16:57

Family of 3, 2 adults 1 toddler. I do about 4 loads per week, plus the towels and bedding every 2 weeks which has to be done in 3 loads as I've got quite a small machine. I try and re wear clothes until they are actually dirty, toddler unortunately is messy and has clean clothes and pjs every day, partner also needs clean work clothes every day so it builds up

ByeFeliciaa · 03/02/2020 16:58

@Yesterdayforgotten ah see this I'd probably my major give away secret 🙈 I wouldn't strip all the beds at once?
I'd do king bedding, cot sheet and cot duvet if they fitted
Then 4 days later I'd wash single bed and the other cot bed - that would also fit some towels if needed

1-3 a day. If I waited six days there’d be so much it would take me a day straight of work to get it all done and we’d be out of clean uniform.

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 17:09

I used to wash 4 times a week when the kids with primary/secondary age
(8kg washer), 1 lights, two darks then either the kids sheets or ours (so they were washed fortnightly) obviously extra sometimes if sickness etc but it mostly worked. I'm down to one wash now, occasionally two because h left, dd2 went to university and dd1 does her own, result!

GooodMythicalMorning · 03/02/2020 17:13

Usually 1 wash a day, 4 person family and a dog. 9kg washing machine and tumble dryers.

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 17:14

Who irons pj's??? Don't think anyone in my house even bothers with them now, saves washing them! All adults admittedly. Which reminds me I must buy something to sleep in for camping!

Lipperfromchipper · 03/02/2020 17:16

I iron everything EXCEPT
Towels/tea towels
Underwear
Pjs
Sheets,(but I do iron the duvet and pillow cases.)

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 17:16

@ByeFeliciaa that wouldnt fit in my 9kg machine without risk of breaking it or not washing it properly , I have to do my super king bed in two halves. Then the single bed goes in with the cot and crib bedding and blankets all together. The towels I wash separately on own as they are a full wash by themselves.

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 17:17

So come clean, how often is bedding washed - be honest. I can't remember when I last did mine but (a good excuse) I don't sleep in my bed that many nights a week, it must be 3-4 weeks??? I did suggest to dp he washes the sheets as he house actually gets used more

goodwinter · 03/02/2020 17:17

@userxx yes! I wash on 30 or 40 for clothes so never had an issue with colours running. We don't have many white clothes, though...

DoTheNextRightThing · 03/02/2020 17:18

I do it when the basket gets full, so every second of third day. But there's only the two of us, and I don't split washes. Everything goes in together.

dementedpixie · 03/02/2020 17:18

I only iron shirts and school wear. Life's too short to iron everything else

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 17:18

@Lipperfromchipper you iron duvet covers? I have high thread count cotton and they never crease, highly recommend!

Megan2018 · 03/02/2020 17:19

@okiedokieme
Mine is a lot as BF and bed sharing. Sheets get milk and vomit on most nights So can be changed 2-5 times a week.
DH’s bed gets done weekly. I’d never go more than 10 days max

okiedokieme · 03/02/2020 17:20

@Megan2018

I remember those days, I slept on a towel for years!

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 17:21

Bed changed once a week regardless of milk dribbles etc. If it was vomit I'd change right away though. In winter with no babies in room I have been known to go two weeks.

Snoopdogsbitch · 03/02/2020 17:24

Family of 5 too with 9kg machine. On average one a day, perhaps 8-9 over the week depending on bedding/ towels. We're an average family- just school clothes and sports/ rugby stuff takes most of the washes. I also do about 2 washes a week just underwear, pants and PJs at a higher temp ( they seem to multiply!). I wish I could get away with 3 a week- you're winning.

Lipperfromchipper · 03/02/2020 17:27

@okiedokieme yes I just love them to look even extra crisp 🙈 all high thread count, it’s one of the areas I spend money on, bedding and bras!! 🤣
