To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

Family of 3 and the machine is on 1-2 times a day. DCs stuff has to be washed separately due to allergies. Bedsheets, towels, tea towels and bathroom mats, reusable cleaning cloths and car cleaning cloths are all laundered once a week. Also do a separate denim wash and sports kit wash once a week.

Wandaneedsnewwindows · 03/02/2020 17:30

Family of 4 and we do 2-3 loads every day. Actually it’s more like 5 loads on Thursdays, as that’s the day we change all 4 beds and change towels and bath mats

Imserious · 03/02/2020 17:31

Family of 5 (3 teenagers)
2 to 3 loads a day
Change all bedding once a week

Vulpine · 03/02/2020 17:38

Family of four. 2 to 3 washes a week and no ironing

Ishihtzuknot · 03/02/2020 17:40

One every day for general clothes pjs uniforms etc, 2/3 times a week towel wash, once a week bedding/coats/cloths/tea towel (separate) washes, I refuse to let it build up

Notso · 03/02/2020 17:56

I usually try and do a load a day minimum, usually two loads, plus random little quick washes like DS's blazer, the bibs for DH's five-a-side team, DC's coats, swimming kits, etc.
Try to have Sunday off.
I never seem to be on top of it all, unless the weather is boiling in summer and I do about 8 loads a day for a couple of days.

Notso · 03/02/2020 17:57

That's for five of us, DD does her own when she's home from University.

mindfulprep · 03/02/2020 18:58

Family of four, average one a day including towels and sheets. We wash sheets every week and towels maybe after two uses, often one. That also include a small delicates load or two once a week.
8kg washer and tumble dryer.

Seems like we wash more frequently than the average. We had a really terrible flea problem a while ago, infected by new neighbours' fluffy cat. We got super cautious after that

AhhARadoxBath · 03/02/2020 19:03

Generally 1 dark.. Ds uniform all navy a day
And either 1 lights or whites a day
Every 2nd day towels, t towels cloths etc.
Once a week all 6 beds. Which is 3 loads.
DH uniform once a week. And an empty wash after as its all so oily and greasy.

Yesterday I did the beds. 2 dark loads, a light and towels. Then threw all dressing gowns in for a freshen. So 8 loads yesterday.. And basket half full again. I honestly don't know how it all mounts up.

namechangingtime · 03/02/2020 20:19

2 adults, one seven month old (in reusable nappies) so we do a clothes wash every 2-3 days, and a nappy wash every two days although that does consist of two parts. We reuse towels a few times, baby's towel is washed every 2-3 baths and ours are washed every 3-4. Bedding is done once a week but as baby only has a sheet we can chuck clothes in with the bedding wash too.

TwoShades1 · 03/02/2020 20:37

Towels washed once a week on tuesdays. Sheets washed once a week, mine and DP on Wednesday, kids usually Monday. Clothes washed 2 loads one Friday night and one sometime Saturday. Only have a mid size machine. If I brought a larger washing machine I could probably often do only one load of clothes a week.

RebornFlame · 03/02/2020 21:10

A very scuzzy family of 4: probably 4-5 per week. Everyone starts the day with clean clothes but my rule is that those clothes stay on however dirty they get (excluding bodily fluid dirt)! My dh is a chef which helps as he works all the time and wears the same civvies to and from work for weeks!

RebornFlame · 03/02/2020 21:11

Bit this is where I get really grubby. Towels are washed when they smell damp. Sheets are washed monthly Shock

dementedma · 03/02/2020 21:14

EIGHT loads a day?? People actually DO this? Jesus. Family of 4 adults here and we don’t do 8 loads a week.
Some people are seriously bonkers about laundry

Geraniumblue · 03/02/2020 21:33

Maybe about 5-7 loads a week? Family of 3. I do bedding and towels when they seem to need it. We all wear a fresh top and underwear every day. I wash mostly at the weekend and the beginning of the week.

Mrsmummy90 · 03/02/2020 21:37

@RebornFlame that would drive me insane 🙈 the kid's towels are cleaned after every bath (toddler and baby) and my dh and I wash ours every 2 or so showers.
Bedding is done every couple of weeks.

ItFigures · 03/02/2020 21:40

Typically do a wash a day but can skip 1 or 2 days. Wash towels every other day (trying not to do them everyday to be a bit more environmentally friendly). Sheets are done weekly. DD goes through lots of changes of clothes.

snowone · 03/02/2020 21:42

At least one wash a day - and there is always a pile waiting to go in. 2 adults, 2 DC
, a dog and 2 cats!

JaceLancs · 03/02/2020 22:00

2 adults 4 loads a week
Dark clothes
Light clothes
Towels and bath mats
Bedding

DoesItGetAnyBetter · 05/02/2020 11:42

I have just put my fourth lot in the washer this morning and wondered how this thread was coming along Grin!

ByeFeliciaa · 05/02/2020 12:28

@DoesItGetAnyBetter I've just put my 2nd wash on from last week Grin
Still have 1 waiting but it hasn't built up Grin

DoesItGetAnyBetter · 05/02/2020 13:02

OMG! I don’t know how you do it. The last time I did washing & ironing was Monday and by today I have 1 x bed linen, 1 x whites and 2 x darks. It’s a fairly large drum but if I put too much in a once it doesn’t seem to wash as well and ends up really creased.

Spidey66 · 05/02/2020 13:06

Weekly-
1x hot wash (towels, tea towels, dishcloths)
1x 60 degree wash (bedding)
2-3 40 degree was (everything else)
Two adults and a dog who gets very muddy and needs regular baths.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/02/2020 13:41

Two adults.

Do two loads of washing a week, normally Wednesday and Saturday.

Wash bedding every two weeks in a separate wash.

Occasionally if got very muddy shoes or clothes they'll be washed separately too on a quick wash.

that's it.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/02/2020 13:43

Oh and never separate lights or darks, everything just goes in together. No one has died yet.
