To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

Just the 3 of us at home now, though my DD does stay most weekends and likes to leave a fair bit of washing for me as a leaving present bless her, and I do one load probably 6 days out of 7 to keep on top of it. In the summer I'm less of a slob I wash the sheets and towels much more regularly and do more like 10 loads a week.

norealshepherds · 05/02/2020 13:47

Family of 3, me, DS4 and DD15 months. I’m usually doing a wash a day

Mummyshark2018 · 05/02/2020 13:56

2 adults, 1dc and ddog. Put a wash on everyday, sometimes twice if we're doing towels and bedclothes.

WhatsWhat456 · 05/02/2020 14:01

Family of 5, 3 kids age range 7-13. I do 1-2 dark loads a day, then alternate light colours and white wash daily, then towels and bath mats every other day, bedding weekly, P.E kits x3 weekly and kids dance kit weekly (5 sessions a week), throws weekly. A 10kg machine and a 9kg drier averages out at 3-4 washes daily, more on a Saturday as stripe all 4 beds. I'm not getting how a family of 5 can do 3 loads a week total, I have 3 loads in bedding and blankets alone! I must be doing something wrong.

vegvegveg · 05/02/2020 16:48

Two adults one child and we do between 2 and 5 loads a week.

wendz86 · 05/02/2020 17:10

Probably 3-5 loads a week. Me and two children in house.

Bananacake20 · 05/02/2020 17:14

Just me and my OH and we do about 5 clothes washes a week (my work clothes take up a lot of this as I work in a cold warehouse and have lots of layers!). We also do 1 towel wash and 1-2 bedding washes per week.

DCIRozHuntley · 05/02/2020 17:19

I do 6 or 7 washes a week, usually one a day but I line dry so might do an extra on a particularly nice/ windy day.
Towels
Bedding
Swimming stuff
Whites
2-3 normal mixed loads

AVT5 · 05/02/2020 17:22

Family of 6-8 loads a week. How could you do so little? Surely bedding/towels alone for 5 is at least 2 washes a week???! Hmm

RedRiverShore · 05/02/2020 17:24

2 adults, a wash each day:
Towels,
Sheets
Wool wash
And 4 clothes washes

DH goes fishing, cycling and running so has lots of filthy clothes which bump it up, we could probably cut out 2 washes a week if he didn’t have his hobbies

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 05/02/2020 17:28

At least one a day but we have a baby in cloth nappies so it piles up if we don’t keep on top of things! Before the stinker baby came along it was probably every 2 or 3 days I think.

belay · 05/02/2020 17:32

Family of 3. It's on every day. Bedding once a week. Towels once a week. Whites once a week. School uniform twice a week (clean top and trousers every day). Work shirts once a week and always another couple of washes for things like tops/hoodies etc

MrsTumbletap · 05/02/2020 17:32

Dear lord people spend so much time in front of washing machines!

These threads always amaze me how people have jobs, relationships and good mental health doing all this bloody washing!

I do 2/3 loads a week, clothes and the towels. Every other week do the bedding. How are people doing 3-4 loads a day with a family of 3 that is excessive.

You dont all wash jeans after wearing them once do you???

Amanduh · 05/02/2020 17:37

2/3 a week. I don’t understand how a family of 3 can need 7 loads a week! What the hell are they washing?
On instagram its like some sort of competitive sport. They all do about three loads a day!!

Shmithecat2 · 05/02/2020 17:49

@Amanduh for me, half the reason I do at least one load a day is because the thought of dirty laundry festering in a basket makes me genuinely feel a bit grim.

TrashKitten10 · 05/02/2020 17:57

Family of two adults and one refluxy baby in cloth nappies and we do a load each day. 3x baby washes a week with nappies and a thousand sicky bibs and muslins then a wash each for lights, darks, towels and bedding.

WellTidy · 05/02/2020 18:01

One load of our bedding (massive bed)
One load of the DC bedding
Two darks washes a week (this includes uniform)
Two whites washes a week (this includes uniform and towels)
Two light colour washes a week
One load of sports wear a week (special sports wash liquid as the sweat smell doesn’t come out otherwise)

Nine washes. Two adults and two DC.

mencken · 05/02/2020 18:21

towels are used on clean bodies and get washed when they need it - we have an airing cupboard so shower towels once a week or less. Hand towels, depends on use.

if your mate is washing towels after every use she is another classic example of 'parent not giving a toss about the planet'.

Naa29 · 05/02/2020 18:49

At least a full load every day. Plus white wash, towel washes, bedding etc.

If I left the washing for 6 days there would be at least 6 loads probably more!

I have a 9kg drum as well!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/02/2020 18:54

I do three loads on a Friday as have a large washer, saves on water, energy etc. I’d be wasteful washing a handful of items daily

BennytheBall · 05/02/2020 18:58

We're a family of 4 plus a dog.

We do between 1 and 3 full loads every day and all is tumble dried.

DessertQueen · 05/02/2020 19:13

At least two, sometimes more. Family of 6 people and 4 pets.

Pootle40 · 05/02/2020 19:19

All this washing towels every day is frankly WEIRD and very bad for the environment.

QueenofLouisiana · 05/02/2020 19:25

About 5 loads a week of clothes plus towels and bedding. DS needs sports kit washed once a week on top of the usual washes and he gets through a lot of towels at the pool which adds up.

CherryCheezcake · 05/02/2020 19:33

I live alone. I do one dark wash most weeks but not all, a white/pale wash every other week which is mostly sheets, a towels wash about once a month.
