to be worried about a hangover?

BetsyBoo100 · 01/02/2020 22:39

Expecting AIBU but last night I went for drinks with friends. Probably had close to a whole bottle of prosecco. I don't drink very often and I have a fairly small build. Me and friend decided to visit local takeaway on our way back home. There were no chips left but just chicken kebab meat and sausage.

Today is probably the illest I've been in my life. I'm actually quite worried. I've been sick over 50 times and can't even keep a small sip of water down me. This started at 7am and I am still being sick now.

Would it be unreasonable for me to seek medical help tomorrow if this persists? I'm so dehydrated and can't even bear drinking water as it just comes straight back up.

It sounds more like you have food poisoning?

MidnightCircus · 01/02/2020 22:43

Sounds more serious than a hangover to me, unless you're exaggerating! If you can't keep down water, yes, seek medical help as dehydration is never good. I hope you feel better soon, sounds awful

BetsyBoo100 · 01/02/2020 22:45

Thanks. Absolutely not exaggerating and really wish I was Sad Every 15 mins today I've been on the toilet with either D or V.

I agree it sounds like it’s not just a hangover, something else is going on. If you aren’t able to keep any fluids down then call 111 tonight, don’t wait until tomorrow.

Lana1234 · 01/02/2020 22:47

Never in my 28 years of legendary terrible hangovers have I been sick 50 times in day. And that was always way more than what you drank. Sounds like it could be the food maybe? I hope you feel better soon you must be exhausted 😩

Try and sleep it off. Even if it's coming back up try and take small sips of water or even better Powerade, or brine from gherkins (sounds gross but electrolytes). If you still can't keep anything down tomorrow might be worth going to a walk in for anti nausea medication.

EmmiJay · 01/02/2020 22:50

Try eating some ice? That sounds like food poisoning to me😬 if theres stomach cramping then it surely has to be.

Branleuse · 01/02/2020 22:52

Food poisoning on top of alcohol poisoning. Try and take small sips of warm flat full fat coke or lucozade to or diorolyte to get some electrolytes and sugar into you.
Even if you dont keep it down for long, youll absorb something.
Im sorry, sounds like you manage to get some sleep

BlueThursday · 01/02/2020 22:52

Keep trying to drink, is there anyone with you who could maybe go get an ice lolly?

Froq · 01/02/2020 22:52

Maybe it’s a mixture of food poisoning and hangover, I’ve had that before and been ill well into the second night. Hopefully both will pass by the morning.

LouReidDododo · 01/02/2020 22:52

Food poisoning.

Elieza · 01/02/2020 22:53

Food poisoning for sure. If it’s not settled after 24 hours, by which time the body should have forced all the bugs out one end or the other if the body, seek advice.

If you can keep a sample it can be tested to see what it is you’ve got. I’d phone the environmental health and get the eatery checked out as they may be dodgy and others could eat a bad meal there too.

Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

DartmoorChef · 01/02/2020 22:53

Food poisoning. Probably from the chicken. It could be campylobacter which is very unpleasant.

BetsyBoo100 · 01/02/2020 22:54

Thanks all for the advice. Currently sucking on an ice lolly! I have been throwing up green/yellow bile and it's so awful. I know this is all very self inflicted so I appreciate the tips & empathy!

Did your friend eat the same thing? Is she unwell too?

superram · 01/02/2020 22:55

It’s food poisoning. Take dioralyte and ice pops. Don’t go to a and e unless very dehydrated-do above to avoid this. Don’t get shit faced and eat shit food ( been there, fine that).

superram · 01/02/2020 22:55

Done that (fine??????)

Ilovepinot · 01/02/2020 22:56

Is your friend sick too if she had a kebab? Sounds like bad food poisoning or norovirus. Hope you feel better soon, stay hydrated.

BetsyBoo100 · 01/02/2020 22:56

Yes friend threw up as soon as she got home. Been sick all day but hers is easing now.

Have been drinking diarolyte but I do just throw the water back up 10-15 mins later. Will it still have an effect?

OP posts:
PatellarTendonitis · 01/02/2020 23:00

Food poisoning, definitely.

Ahhashaker · 01/02/2020 23:02

I had exactly this once, only had a few beers and was well within my usual limit, but the next day I was chucking up bile every 15 minutes, couldn’t keep water down, and it felt worse than the flu. I didn’t have anything to eat and it was at a friends house so nothing untoward there. It passed the next day but I still felt very weak. Probably from the lack of fluids mind you.

Was it a brand of Prosecco you have never had before? We narrowed it down that the beer I had been drinking had an added ingredient most beers don’t have and now I steer clear of that brand.

Hope you feel better soon op!

TheGreyInThisCity · 01/02/2020 23:06

Probably not, to be honest.

Some tips and advice here but it sounds like pretty severe vomiting and I would think about getting medical advice: www.nhs.uk/conditions/diarrhoea-and-vomiting/

PoptartPoptart · 02/02/2020 00:10

Try taking fluids (full sugar coke or lemonade or diarolyte) in teeny amounts at a time. 5mls every 5 minutes. Those medicine syringes are good for this because you can gently syringe the liquid to the back (side) of your throat meaning you’re not gulping air.
It really does sound like food poisoning from the kebab shop, especially as your friend has been sick too. I would definitely report it to the local food standards agency/environmental health.
