to be worried about a hangover?

Expecting AIBU but last night I went for drinks with friends. Probably had close to a whole bottle of prosecco. I don't drink very often and I have a fairly small build. Me and friend decided to visit local takeaway on our way back home. There were no chips left but just chicken kebab meat and sausage.

Today is probably the illest I've been in my life. I'm actually quite worried. I've been sick over 50 times and can't even keep a small sip of water down me. This started at 7am and I am still being sick now.

Would it be unreasonable for me to seek medical help tomorrow if this persists? I'm so dehydrated and can't even bear drinking water as it just comes straight back up.

Can you drink 7up or Coke? Can be easier to keep down than water and will give you a bit of sugar as well.

SnoozyLou · 02/02/2020 00:52

When I had food poisoning, I woke up sitting bolt upright thinking "oh my god, I'm going to be sick". Didn't even get to the bathroom, just a waste paper bin in my bedroom. I'd say if you woke up feeling groggy for a while, that's probably a hangover, whereas food poisoning is really urgent and overwhelming feeling that you're going to vomit. I also had norovirus and found that pretty similar. Food poisoning I couldn't keep anything down at all for days though. Never sought medical attention for either though.

HeadachesByTheDozen · 02/02/2020 01:17

Do you/did you have pains in the stomach? What you are describing sounds definitely like food poisoning. If your friend had the same food you had, and has been sick all day too, then that's your answer. I found even the worst hangover I ever had, say a 12 on the 1 - 10 scale, didn't last all the next day and all that night.

Nomel · 02/02/2020 01:34

I’m not sure only one bottle would make you THAT Ill. Just keep drinking water and rest and hope it’s just a 24hour thing.

CoupeCourte · 02/02/2020 03:27

Could be alcohol poisoning if you don't drink very often, but if your friend has it too I guess it's more likely food poisoning. Unlike PP when I had food poisoning last year I woke up at 3am with a very sore stomach but it took a while for the D&V to start - I was wandering around moaning with stomach cramps for at least half an hour.

For both kinds of poisoning it's taken about 24-36h for me to stop vomiting and reliably keep down water - sorry! Just keep trying little sips of water, space them out. Lemonade ice blocks are my re-introduction food of choice once water stays down. If it's more than 3 days I'd see a doctor.

eaglejulesk · 02/02/2020 03:57

Sounds like food poisoning to me also. If you have any ginger ale in the house you could try sipping that, it always helps me. Mainly it will just take its time however, and hopefully you will be feeling better tomorrow.

jamjarglow · 02/02/2020 04:16

You might need to get some tablets to stop the sickness, do 111 do prescriptions?

peachypetite · 02/02/2020 04:50

You poor thing. It’s sefinitely food poisoning.

Branleuse · 02/02/2020 08:47

One bottle would make me very ill.
Last time year I went out and had 3 pints and was sick as a bloody dog all the next day. I used to drink that and be fine in the past.

Id be reluctant to start informing authorities about food poisoning when youre tiny and youve downed a bottle of wine.

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 02/02/2020 08:49

How are you this morning OP?

Auridon4life · 02/02/2020 09:36

Cornetto or some sort of ice cream or something frozen. Ice cubes perhaps. I find Fanta or tango helps and getting some fast food like KFC. Then bath and tv.

BetsyBoo100 · 02/02/2020 10:17

Hi all. Thanks for all the advice and reassurance. I was in a bit of a panic last night but sat down around midnight, had about 4 fruit ice lollies and it made the world of difference. No longer being sick but just a bit weak and tired. Was a bit scary at one point but think I'm over the worst now. Thanks all.

No way is that the result of 1 bottle of prosecco. Definitely food poisoning.

crustycrab · 02/02/2020 11:14

Report it. There is the number on your councils website.

Glad you're feeling better but they need looking into. That was not a hangover

Member984815 · 02/02/2020 11:24

Get some motillium if u can , this will ease the vomiting . My daughter had dand v all this week so sick couldn't get out of bed only able to eat yesterday , doc says virus and recommended to let the diaorrea run it's course and take motillium because it had gone on a few days without let up . Do you think you could have food poisoning?

WarrenNicole · 02/02/2020 11:24

It could easily be a hangover though.

In my early 20s, after a night of drinking vodka (and not that much, to be fair), I awoke the next day and was the same as you. I was sick every 10 minutes like clockwork. This went on all day. Couldn’t keep anything down. I contacted out of hours at around 5pm thinking “I didn’t have that much to drink, it can’t be a hangover”. Was seen by a doctor who advised me it was very much the alcohol and I had an anti-sickness injection. I have never drank vodka since.

I really struggled to get my head around how I had drank much more on other occasions, but had never experienced anything like that. It can happen.

DrManhattan · 02/02/2020 11:28

Always happens to me when I have more than 2 glasses of prosecco. I dont drink it at all now

LittleMissGrumpyGrot · 02/02/2020 11:34

Glad you're beginning to feel a bit better.
I think you should report it so the council can check out the kebab place. Imagine everybody who goes there today being as ill as you were!

crustycrab · 02/02/2020 11:43

If it wasn't the takeaway then no harm will come of having them checked.

If you don't report it harm could definitely come. Poisoning like that could kill my FIL quite easily

jellyfrizz · 02/02/2020 11:45

I get horribly unfair hangovers like this, I've thrown up Resolve, Dioralyte, water....

It lasts until about 8pm or so when I can finally manage to eat something. It doesn't happen every time I drink but I have to be really careful with more than a few glasses of wine.

MamaGee09 · 02/02/2020 11:49

Prosecco/ wine has that affect on me. I’m ill with it.

Glad you are feeling better.

gamerchick · 02/02/2020 11:53

I think you and your friend should probably report the place you got your grub from tbh.

Poorolddaddypig · 02/02/2020 11:54

Ughhh.... kebab meat and sausage. Definitely food poisoning.

Poorolddaddypig · 02/02/2020 11:58

Although, saying that, I've had hangovers like this before. More than once.

Poorolddaddypig · 02/02/2020 12:00

Just saw that ice lollies helped! Definitely a hangover then - ice lollies are the only cure to my hangovers too (and they definitely wouldn't help food poisoning!)
