To expect DH to do this for me

Every weekend DH cooks breakfast.

And every weekend my fried egg is too hard.

I only like dippy eggs. If he's going to go to the trouble of cooking bacon, black pudding, square sausage, mushrooms, eggs and toast, he could at least get the eggs right.

AIBU to expect him to take more care?

It’s easy enough to tilt the frying pan a little so the fat pools on one side, then spoon the fat over the top of the egg for about 20 seconds, until it the yolk changes colour slightly and you can't see any uncooked or runny white.
You don’t need to steam it under a lid which can give you a tough ‘skin’ on the top of the yolk. And you don’t need to flip it either, which as several posters have said, is fraught with danger.
He should be cooking the egg last, it only takes a couple of minutes max.

Notsureabouthis · 01/02/2020 17:08

What’s a dippy egg? Weird name Confused

Berrymuch · 01/02/2020 17:14

Meh I think it would be an easy fix, DH sometimes says to me he prefers something a bit crispier than I usually do it, and I prefer some thinks cooked differently when he does it; not really an issue.

hattyhatshats · 01/02/2020 17:15

Fried eggs are vile. You both should be ashamed, yet here you are broadcasting it.

MissConductUS · 01/02/2020 17:25

I had to ask Mr Google about black pudding. I'm not envious of it.

Get him a timer for the eggs. Poaching eggs is probably the easiest way to get them as runny as you like. They overcook in a frying pan quite quickly.

Member984815 · 01/02/2020 17:27

This the very reason that when my husband offers to do me a fried egg I say no . He way over cooks them

FrangipaniBlue · 01/02/2020 17:34

I feel like I've walked into a parallel universe....

Not that long ago there was a thread where a host had refused to cook a steak to the OP (who was the guest) liking - there was uproar!! How dare he refuse, you don't treat guests like that don't you know!!

But apparently it's ok for a husband to treat his wife like that Confused

FML MN is a weird place sometimes.

OP YANBU in any way shape or form, ignore the idiots giving you grief, Saturdays seems to bring them out.

FrangipaniBlue · 01/02/2020 17:37

Also - square sausage with a runny fried egg in mother's pride bread = FOOD OF THE GODS

BabySharksMummyShark · 01/02/2020 17:38

I have never fried an egg so no idea what you are talking about and i scramble mine i a microwave

FrangipaniBlue · 01/02/2020 17:39

@BabySharksMummyShark that is just heathen!!

MintyMabel · 01/02/2020 17:39

I’m with you on this one. I’ve mentioned it, especially as his egg is always really dippy.

The same goes for my burned oven chips. He thinks they take 20 minutes. They do not.

And this argument of if you want it done differently do it yourself is ridiculous. If every time someone made you a coffee it was weak as piss, surely that’s not a good thing? Surely you can expect, if someone is doing something for you, they do it properly?

MintyMabel · 01/02/2020 17:41

What’s a dippy egg? Weird name

An egg with a yolk runny enough to dip things in. What else would you call it?

slipperywhensparticus · 01/02/2020 17:43

I hate dippy eggs but I make them for other people 🤮 mine are solid which is soooooo easy to do but my ex never could manage it 🙄

VettiyaIruken · 01/02/2020 17:46

YANBU.
If I cook something for someone, I want them to enjoy it.
I don't think it is too much to ask for an egg to be the way you like it.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 01/02/2020 17:51

Don't make them for him (for him to then put on a plate for you) every time. Show him how to make them the way you want. It seems obvious to me that you'd take a dippy egg out of the pan before you'd take a hard egg out, but he might not know that, or might not be sure it's definitely cooked safely (but still dippy). He'll be dead proud once he learns.

BabySharksMummyShark · 01/02/2020 17:52

@FrangipaniBlue i know! I dont know why i haven't, i can cook other types of eggs just have never fried one!

TheMustressMhor · 01/02/2020 17:52

I am very disappointed that some people have said that I am "precious" or a "spoilt princess".

I put up with DH's hobby FFS.

PityParty4one · 01/02/2020 17:54

Oh good god are we so stupid we do not understand the concept of a dippy egg Hmm

BabySharksMummyShark · 01/02/2020 17:54

@FrangipaniBlue i just realised you could have meant the microwave! If so my husband says that too!

Op does the hobby involve Lycra?

TheMustressMhor · 01/02/2020 17:54

But I should like to thank MintyMabel for her support.

BabySharksMummyShark relationships founder on whether or not people can fry eggs. Just remember that.

DirtyDeeds · 01/02/2020 17:56

@TheMustressMhor YADNBU

My husband likes a hard yolk so I cook it that way for him

I like a runny yolk... he cooks mine hard 🤬

We all have certain ways we like things prepared. If you were putting ketchup in his bacon butty on purpose for example when he preferred brown sauce nobody would think you were being reasonable.

Pity the wizened handmaids who think you should bow down to the menz who cooks twice a week and does it thoughtlessly

Grin #teamdippy

FrangipaniBlue · 01/02/2020 17:57

@BabySharksMummyShark I did and your DH is correct - scrambled eggs should be done in a pan so that they don't go like leather! Grin

Cindersinblack · 01/02/2020 17:58

Fried eggs should always be soft
And suitable for dipping

Hard eggs are hard boled

BabySharksMummyShark · 01/02/2020 17:58

Mustress that is true! Luckily i am spoilt and hubby does most of the cooking in the house.

@FrangipaniBlue i will tell hubby someone agrees with him 😂 i have got good at making them fluffy not leathery at all!

TheMustressMhor · 01/02/2020 17:59

I am not saying what DH's hobby is as it will be outing.
