Crusty bread, real butter and jam, as a rare treat 😋

I cant remember the last time I had jam! I went to the shop for croissants and jam but they didn't have any croissants so I got crusty bread and apricot jam.

It was delicious.

hate 'Crusty' bread as it always seems to cut my gums.

Zebracat · 01/02/2020 12:21

Mm breakfast. I love them, crusty white bread, president butter, strawberry jam and a chunk of mature cheddar. Pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Poached eggs with marmite on wholemeal toast. Leftover trifle. Currently dieting, start every day with Oat so Simple .....

GenevaMaybe · 01/02/2020 12:22

I love breakfast, it is my favourite meal.
Bagel lightly toasted with smoked salmon, cream cheese, finely chopped red onion, capers and lemon
Avocado on toasted sourdough with chilli flakes and olive oil
Homemade bircher muesli
Soft white bap with big fat sausages and brown sauce indeed
All butter must be salted.

happyhappyme · 01/02/2020 12:27

Marmite is better.

SidneyPrescott · 01/02/2020 12:29

A lightly toasted bagel. Bacon. Cheese. Mayo.

And now I'm craving that so much I'd sell my child for one.

Thanks.

AlwaysCheddar A rare treat because everyone knows it’s so delicious you would overeat your carb, fat, sugar and salt recommendations for the day.

I wouldn’t disagree as a “home” breakfast but nothing beats a full English served in a smart hotel. The additional luxury of sausages, mushrooms and hash browns with unlimited juice and coffee beats lunch any day.

IntermittentParps · 01/02/2020 12:33

Flat white and a tuna melt from Pret. Breakfast of champions.

APatchyTomCat · 01/02/2020 12:33

YABU I can't do anything sweet for breakfast, it must always be savoury. And often spicy.

KatherineJaneway · 01/02/2020 12:37

One of my favourites as a child was getting home from shopping and getting out of the bags the large crusty white loaf which was still warm from the bakery. Cut, spread with real butter and eat. I can still smell that fresh bread smell from my childhood.

Love apricot jam too!

Mountainash · 01/02/2020 12:43

I love jam. I discovered a raspberry and cinnamon jam in Lidl.
It didn’t taste anything like how I imagined it would. It’s like flavour explosion in your mouth.

All the family love it, children included.

DotBall · 01/02/2020 12:47

Love crusty white bread, but sometimes hard to find these days

Lidl bakery (THE best) and Morrisons when I need warm, fresh crusty white bread.

Lidl’s Low GI Multiseed cob is my absolute favourite though. I’m addicted (and Lidl is on my way home from work - winner!)

FamilyOfAliens · 01/02/2020 12:48

Have people really stopped eating jam and marmalade? Though seeing some of the wanky breakfasts on here, they probably have.

TheMemoryLingers · 01/02/2020 12:49

The best breakfasts I ever had were in Germany - an array of cold meats and pates - amazing!

For British breakfasts, poached egg and proper kippers - mmm!

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 01/02/2020 12:51

YANBU, but the butter must be applied with a trowel.

YouTheCat · 01/02/2020 12:54

I like those part baked rolls/bread that you finish at home. It means you get lovely warm bread.

AuntieMarys · 01/02/2020 12:57

I have poached eggs nearly every day, with turmeric. Or porridge and cinnamon. But today I had crumpets oozing with President butter. Heaven.

f00k · 01/02/2020 12:58

YABU because I hate jam.

The best breakfast is french toast made with brioche and drowned in maple syrup. Bacon not optional.

buttermilkwaffles · 01/02/2020 12:58

Freshly baked bread, jam and proper butter is always good, but also (depending on weather, mood, appetite) for a treat it's hard to beat a good shakshuka, or eggs Benedict with runny yolk poached eggs and Serrano ham, or the sausage and egg naan at Dishoom.

My usual though is Greek style yoghurt with soft fruits (eg raspberries/ strawberries / cherries when in season or fruit compote) and topped with toasted flaked almonds or mixed chopped nuts.
Or in winter, porridge with dates and walnuts, or dates and banana or grated apple and cinnamon.

The one constant essential though is decent coffee. Smile

AGnu · 01/02/2020 13:04

Nothing beats a huevos rancheros quesadilla for me. Tortilla, spread with refried beans & salsa. Add potato cubes, pico de gallo, cheese & a fried egg & fold in half. Pop in the sandwich toaster, or fry, then sprinkle with hot sauce & coriander.

Ludways · 01/02/2020 13:06

Yes, but you can keep the jam.

Jux · 01/02/2020 13:07

Crusty bread and butter. No need for jam, but if you do it needs to be raspberry with marmite under it. Or fish paste and raspberry jam. But just the butter (not spread, not even Lurpak spread) is enough.

WarrenNicole · 01/02/2020 13:08

Nope. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Could eat it every day.

Lycidas · 01/02/2020 13:12

The best jam I’ve found is M&S Summer Berries soft set jam. Amazing! And I’m normally not a fan of the stuff.

But I’m open to other recommendations...

Leflic · 01/02/2020 13:50

Have people really stopped eating jam and marmalade? Though seeing some of the wanky breakfasts on here, they probably have.

Best comment so far.

elephantoverthehill · 01/02/2020 13:57

Blackcurrant jam.
