kids sports coach advertising as prostitute and ex porn star under same name

AIBU? A local sports club gives great coaching for kids. But in the last few months a new coach started training the U13 girls. Some girls found the new coach creepy so have stopped going. I only found out about this after another girl googled the sports coach. The top Google searches under the coach's name are about them being an ex porn star and current prostitute who enjoys lots of unprotected sex with multiple clients (exact phrasing is too graphic for here). Top search results on other search engines are pornographic photographs and videos.

This is making me uncomfortable. While I think that people should have a private life, this coach is not keeping it private by having various explicit social media pages and porn videos using the same name that they coach under. Coupled with this, some of the girls were already uncomfortable with the coach before they knew this.

The club chair is an ex policeman and "safeguarding consultant", so there will have been a process, it's just that this coach passed.

Any thoughts?

OP you are 100% doing the right thing to question their suitability as a coach for children. Adults who can make up their own minds, no issue, but U13s absolutely no way!

wordsmithsforever · 01/02/2020 08:22

Stuff any pussyfooting around. My DCs would be out of that club immediately. Coaches need to have excellent character. Porn and prostitution doesn't fit - screw anyone's woke sensibilities.

It's worth repeating the post by EvilPea :
It does have a smattering of Rotherham scandal about it if the reason not to report is down to being concerned with being perceived as a bigot

Nobody - parent or otherwise - should ever be stopped from reporting safeguarding concerns for fear of being accused of bigotry. An adult seeking to work with young children while openly advertising their 'services' as a prostitute, having pornographic photos online is a serious safeguarding concern. They are meant to be a role model yet this behaviour shows that they don't have appropriate boundaries in place.

Shocking that there are adults on here who fail to recognise these risks.

How many other coaches/teachers do you google?

It is definitely not uncommon for parents and older pupils to google their teachers, even when they are no other issues going on.
Its why most teachers I know use a variation of their real name online.

It is also very much the norm for prospective employers to google candidates.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/02/2020 11:57

I chatted about this thread with DH, and Rotherham was the first thing he mentioned. No group should be above challenge or scrutiny.

Does IMdb represent porn stars?
IMDB is the Internet Movie Database - they list (literally) everybody who appears in any commercial film.

NatashaRomanov · 01/02/2020 13:06

I would definitely bring it up with the Safe Schools Alliance, and then they people in charge of the club.
I would also be concerned that the coach is fully aware of what is available online regarding his activities, is well aware that the girls have or will Google his name, and gets off on knowing what they will see.

Frothybothie · 01/02/2020 13:36

If they are employed as a coach there is likely to be a no second job without seeking permission clause exp if local authority. Given the high rates of mental health issues in prostitutes, the sex industry, to say nothing of my issues in trans people then this potentially a "what could possibly go wrong ". Advise other parents, the club etc

StealthPolarBear · 01/02/2020 13:43

Op I totally agree with you but I think this will blow up in your face and you'll end up accused of bigotry. Be very careful.

Threeflyingducks · 01/02/2020 14:11

I work with children, most of my peers work with a 'vulnerable group' - teens, adults with learning disabilities etc. Its a standard thing not to be searchable online, very few of my friends have a Facebook page in the same name as their work, everything is locked to private etc. I find it absolutely bizarre that someone would think it's ok to do the two roles.

I would bring it up and not reference the trans aspect, as them being trans isn't relevant to the concern - I'm sure everyone would have the same issue if it were someone engaged in more mainstream sex work - none of it is particularly pleasant & something you'd want teens to be thinking about their sports coach!

elgreco · 01/02/2020 15:29

Totally inappropriate. I would complain loudly.

Crunchymum · 01/02/2020 16:04

So this is an ex porn star who is now a prostitute into bareback sex none the less , who advertises under their real name?

Who is also happens to be trans?

I'm agog.

Whatsername177 · 01/02/2020 16:44

It is worth checking through with the company who has hired the coach. There are several issues at play here:

  1. Young trainees feeling the coach is 'creepy'. The USA Olympic Gymnast team felt the same about their coach and with good reason.
  2. The coach's online presence is an issue - advertising sex and being in pornographic films would usually mean the DBS check wouldn't be approved. There have been teachers who have been sacked for moonlighting as escorts.
  3. You are worried about being bigoted. That is only an issue if your issue with the coach is their trans identity.
VortexofBloggery · 01/02/2020 17:59

OP I think you said it was a running club? Here is England Athletics site, they have a flowchart for reporting allegations against a volunteer, who you should contact and what you can expect to happen www.englandathletics.org/clubs-and-facilities/club-support-services/compliance-wellbeing/club-safeguarding-and-disciplinary-processes/ this may give you anonymity with the club, which would be a very good idea. It's not about you, it's about the coach's suitability. EA would also need to question the club's recruitment processes, because they are clearly lacking. Better to let EA take this up with the club, than put yourself in the shit.

Patroclus · 02/02/2020 14:17

had a gander for that family guy episode mentioned. The usual types are calling it 'transmisogynistic' loooooooooooooooooooool.

Patroclus · 02/02/2020 14:19

Just find somebody independent to do it if youre worried about repercussions. Bugger it I'd do it for you (not saying you're being a coward, you arnt at all- some other people dont have families or records to worry about)

crochetandshit · 02/02/2020 14:29

OP it seems you've told your daughter to trust her instinct but then dismissed her instinct that this male porn star hanging around girls of 13 and under is creepy?
