To think not many people will turn up for the Brexshit 'celebration' in London

I see they've put flags down the mall but I feel like not many people will turn up for this. I know there's the big draw of farage, Widdecombe, and possibly the racist Jim Davidson. AIBU to think there's not likely to be a big turnout?

Well, only I don’t want to reconcile with leavers/racists tbh.
There will be no healing for me. They’ve taken away the rights of 50% give or take of the country, have voted in a racist, lying, cheating prime minister because ya know, he’s got floppy hair and looks a bit scruffy.
I’m quite happy hating on you all. I would never willingly or knowingly associate myself with racists.

Patroclus · 31/01/2020 12:58

A lot of you dont seem to realise that you can shout away the fact racism had a massive amount to do with the vote.

LizziesTwin · 31/01/2020 12:59

I received a message from a friend earlier who is going. She lives in central London and is a keen Brexiteer. I’m not going, I voted Remain.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:01

Its an inset day for ds2, he did say maybe we should go to London

Then he realised that people would assume we were leave voters and he went off the idea

jjjnnnnnrrssss · 31/01/2020 13:03

Here here @theunknownknown
I realise it's hard not to fall into that mindset when you've been spoon-fed it by the media for so long. But I am sick of this country and politics being dictated by that lot. Its unfortunately they're the biggest collective majority.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 13:05

Funny thing. I absolutely don't believe that all leavers are racists. (In fact, a ew people voted Brexit because they thought there wasn't enough immigration from Commonwealth countries like India and Pakistan.)

However, I'm pretty sure all the racists voted leave as well. My mother certainly did, and she was also known to vote BNP. I've heard her views on black people, Asians and Jews, so don't tell me she wasn't racist.

If you vote for the same option as all the racists, you shouldn't be surprised when you get lumped in with them. It's like shouting "I only buy Playboy for the articles" out of your window, and being surprised people think you buy it for the centrefold.

littlepaddypaws · 31/01/2020 13:15

not going to london today because people will think you are leave voters ?? a child really said this ? does that mean majority of london workers called in sick them ? i bet the noncommumute was lovely.

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 31/01/2020 13:22

I do agree with you that all racists would have voted Leave Jamie but I think you’ve got to be a bit of a cunt yourself to call all leave voters racist just because of that. (I don’t mean you personally)

It’s like insisting that all football club supporters are violent hooligans just because some are. And shouting racist at anyone seems to be the default way of left wingers and/or remainders to shut down any argument about anything these days. It’s lazy and offensive, unfair and untrue.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:24

Not all racists voted leave, not in my experience at any rate

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:25

not going to london today because people will think you are leave voters

Apologies, I obviously wasnt very clear

He wanted to go to london to go to Nigels party specifically

Not just a random trip to see the sights

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 13:27

I've heard her views on black people, Asians and Jews sorry to disappoint or shock you- Im jewish, my husband is black- i voted leave to stop a closer relationship with a europe that is letting more and more institutionally racist antisemitic countries join!!!!!

Oulu · 31/01/2020 13:33

Perhaps we should set up separate National Stupidity Day celebrations or wakes.

WanderingMilly · 31/01/2020 13:35

Oh dear, not all Leavers are racist. Many voted because they don't want to be bound by the trade rules made in Brussels, many working class people believed (rightly or wrongly) that things might be better if the UK went its own way....
My own sister is a Labour voter who voted in Boris to get Brexit done, because she truly believes it is a way forward. She is the least racist person on earth and works her socks off with black minority groups and so on.

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 13:35

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I'm Jewish. I voted Remain. The far right are not exclusive to Europe, they're a huge threat in the US and Brexit is not going to stop anti-Semitism. I mean, we've been blamed for it not happening fast enough, for one thing. We get blamed for every bastard thing anyway, so no surprises there.

And no, not all Leave voters are racist. Lexiters would argue that Remainers are racist. But there are an awful lot of racists who voted Brexit because they believed it would get rid of all the Pakis or some such crap.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 13:39

sorry to disappoint or shock you- Im jewish, my husband is black- i voted leave to stop a closer relationship with a europe that is letting more and more institutionally racist antisemitic countries join!!!!!

And this will shock me how?

Topseyt · 31/01/2020 13:40

I think it would be summary justice if the rain were to piss down on the whole thing.

I'm a remainer anyway, but I will just pay the whole thing hardly any attention on the news later.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 13:44

JamieVardysHavingAPart your sweeping statements of all leavers being racist

PhilSwagielka absolutely agree, we have many issues in the UK, but I dont think it is comparable to certain other EU countries.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 13:47

your sweeping statements of all leavers being racist

But that's not what I said, is it.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:54

onlyfoolsmothers

jamie just posted this Funny thing. I absolutely don't believe that all leavers are racists

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 31/01/2020 13:56

Not you Jamie but over the last few years many have repeatedly said or strongly implied exactly that. As though to be concerned about uncontrollable immigration levels and the ramifications of them is in itself racist and as though there are absolutely no other valid reasons to feel disillusioned with the EU. Remainders seem to think they can distil Leavers’ motives down to one thing only - racism, and they just shut out everything else that is said to them.

averylongtimeasLangCleg · 31/01/2020 13:57

No one I know will be going out to celebrate.
If leavers don't like being called racist- well, not all are. But all the racists voted leave. I was told by several that the EU had forced us to take in "them nxxxxxx and wxxxx " and yes, those words were used, when referring to people from the West Indies or Pakistan. I wouldn't say all the leave voters I know are thick either- they range from a care worker to an accountant, farmers, engineers. The dis-information they all believed was staggering.

I hope they are right, and that we really are heading for the sunlit uplands in a land of milk and honey.
But I don't think they are.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 14:04

At one point, the Morning Star (not a paper I read currently) was pushing Brexit because of concerns that TTIP would force us to make deals to our detriment with the US.

Er...

I also saw argued by completely different people that we should leave so that the UK could institute stronger environmental legislation than the EU allowed and that we should leave the EU so that we didn't have to abide by the EU's excessively stringent legislation and could have better hairdryers.

None of those are racist, at least.

Wolfff · 31/01/2020 14:08

I work near Whitehall and me and my colleagues were advised to take extra care or work at home this afternoon due to the possibility of thuggery.

Tellmetruth4 · 31/01/2020 14:42

So wife beater Jim Davidson’s flying in from his home in Dubai specially to celebrate a country he hasn’t lived in for years, leaving the EU? Will Richard Littlejohn be flying in from Spain, Michael Cain and John Cleese from America, James Dyson from Singapore? They’re all big a Brexiters so I expect them to leave their real homes to come and lead the singing of old war time songs on the Mall.

Did Nige get his German passport in the end?
