To think not many people will turn up for the Brexshit 'celebration' in London

I see they've put flags down the mall but I feel like not many people will turn up for this. I know there's the big draw of farage, Widdecombe, and possibly the racist Jim Davidson. AIBU to think there's not likely to be a big turnout?

I saw Remainers sticking up for Brexiters.

Didn't see Brexiters defending people who were scared they wouldn't get their cancer treatment.

And on a personal level, I don't expect to agree politically with all my friends. But it has made an emotional impact on me that I didn't see vile Remain comments from anyone on my FB list, but quite a few (although certainly not all) of my openly Brexit-supporting friends did make vile comments like that. As the fricking winners.

Not gonna forget.

littlepaddypaws · 31/01/2020 11:35

people who have to insult each other in either camp are a bit scummy imo.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 11:36

Regarding the thread, there won't be a big turn-out.

People just aren't going to travel all the way to London for this. Between the weather and panic about coronavirus, there will be little enthusiasm.

mencken · 31/01/2020 11:36

and MN has been particularly scummy on this - just see what happens on all threads suggesting that there were reasons to vote leave that were not racism.

I agree though, high turnout tonight is about as likely as Extinction Rebellion gluing themselves to a road on a wet day.

DillBaby · 31/01/2020 11:36

Nobody will turn up to a big public event because of fears about coronavirus.

vikkimoog · 31/01/2020 11:37

It's the laughing about disabled/chronically ill people that gets me. Yeah, being in constant pain is hilarious. Ha fucking ha
what are you on about?

littlepaddypaws · 31/01/2020 11:42

vikki i'm curious about this post from philswa too any links or evidence for this phil it's vile if true. but i do find it hard to believe that it's not more crap from the media frenzy.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 11:47

Either Phil means the general bottom-feeding trash comments about disabled people on newspapers' FB pages, or she has come across a few specific discussions of how brexit could impact disabled people, which were covered in laugh-reacts.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 11:51

There will only be fights with the Tommy Robinson lot if people turn up to demonstrate against them and give them someone to fight with
Im pretty sure Tommy Robinson could start a fight in an empty room

windycuntryside · 31/01/2020 11:52

I’m so pissed off today. This is a major contributor.

littlepaddypaws · 31/01/2020 11:53

mmm, fb and the like ? there's a surprise, but i wish she / he would answer it's pointless making such sweeping statements otherwise.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 11:56

Live footage of Tommy Robinson

Reginabambina · 31/01/2020 11:59

I’m not anti-brexit but I definitely wouldn’t go. It’s fucking January-I don’t care what’s happened I am not going to a street party!

theunknownknown · 31/01/2020 12:00

End of
All the lols! Like you have the final say on something.
The poster is right, there will be no healing.
Leavers are racist in the main. I accept that maybe, just maybe, some leave voters are not racists but all racists voted leave.
So if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
The triumphalism of leavers is sickening and goes no way at all to building bridges. Leavers now claim that they have got everything they wanted - even if they won't see the benefits for 50-100 years (can you believe that!!!).
But remainers who make up more than half the population have been given no concessions whatsoever.
It's a pyrrhic victory - enjoy it.

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 31/01/2020 12:13

I'm not going to forget the vile hostility from the winners of this, and I don't expect the victims of it will either.

I honestly don’t know how you can look yourself in the face and say that without a hint of a clue about the irony and the utter hypocrisy In that statement..

What jaw dropping, mind blowing double standards.

theunknownknown · 31/01/2020 12:19

I’m not seeing the hypocrisy Hmm

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 12:22

The triumphalism of leavers is sickening and goes no way at all to building bridges said the person who just labelled leavers racist!!!!

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 31/01/2020 12:22

WhereShallWeMoveTo

I look in the mirror like this. Bright smile, brush my teeth and I say, "Today is a brand-new day, in which I will proceed with my unbroken record of not gloating over someone worrying about radiotherapy being unavailable".

It's like riding a bike.

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 12:27

@WhereShallWeMoveTo even if no counter-demonstrators turn up, they always end up fighting each other. A bunch of pissed-up football hooligans, it's bound to turn messy. And I don't live in London, so I'm not going. Even if I did, I wouldn't because I hate demonstrations. Huge panic trigger.

littlepaddypaws · 31/01/2020 12:27

i voted to leave, i am neither thick or racist, i don't need to gloat and i don't drag myself downto gutter level calling anyone names either.

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 12:29

Vikki, I'm speaking from personal experience, when I and friends who have things like CF or immune system disorders have said we're worred about delays in getting our meds or shortages, we just get laughed at. Suck it up, Remoaners, Project Fear, etc. I think I'll be OK as Solpadeine, which I take for pain, is manufactured in the UK, but I'm not as sure about Sertraline. Yes, I know, I'm just a snowflake who should pull myself together but I need anti-depressants to function.

@JamieVardysHavingAParty nailed it.

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 12:31

Yes it is on social media and no, I'm not going to spend hours trawling through my and other people's accounts.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 31/01/2020 12:32

No counter demonstrators (from WhereShallWeMoveTo) - so again remainers should stfu, and blame anyone other than the people who might start trouble. I agree about the total lack of appreciation of perfectly valid concerns.

There should not be a celebration of any kind, because this is not the end of Brexit, this is the beginning. Negotiations are all to come. We are still living with the threat of a No Deal scenario.

But don't worry, Johnson has said he'll move all the news about it to business sections rather than headlines, so you won't have to worry your little heads about it, and no doubt he'll keep all the bad news out by manipulating statistics so you'll never have to connect cause and effect either, you can just carry on blaming scapegoats. ffs.

Urkiddingright · 31/01/2020 12:51

Racists will turn out in droves.

MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2020 12:53

No idea how many, some people are excited about it all, but last place I’d want to be.
