I have just discovered, by accident, that if you open another tab in your web browser, you can click on the tab and drag it away so that you have a second separate browser open at the same time. I don't mean split screen but like you have opened a separate thing. Did you all know this already?

I know this is a pathetic thing to get excited about but I was literally like this Shock and then giddy with excitement.

AIBU to be be pleased with my discovery?

@elouera you actually asked why I said it wasn't true, I said that because isn't universally true

just because something is sometimes true doesn't make it a reliable rule; so it is true for your car but it isn't true for all cars therefore it can't be a guiding rule thing. A bit like even a clock that isn't working is right twice a day

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/02/2020 11:08

@Elouera you quizzed another poster on why they said it wasn't true. It doesn't matter whether you said they all do or not Hmm

It would be interesting to know which cars don't have an arrow. None here.

I presume older cars from before the notion became popular, and perhaps some small makers?

Both our fillers are on the right. I also have a very old British car in the shed where it's on the left. In the old days when you used to pull up to a pump at the side of the road it would have been natural, if you drive on the left, to put it on the left, and if you drive on the right, to put it on the right.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2020 11:35

It would be interesting to know which cars have an arrow that's on the wrong side.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/02/2020 11:40

@PigletJohn 14 plate Renault Clio here that doesn't have an arrow

ChessieFL · 05/02/2020 13:10

07 plate Peugeot 207 here - no arrow and the hose on the picture is on the wrong side!

SoupDragon · 05/02/2020 13:46

I do think that the hose on the pump icon is a total myth. It'll be right about 50% of the time 😂

TeacupDrama · 05/02/2020 17:15

08 plate Renault kangoo fuel cap is on passenger side hose on icon is on drivers side there is no arrow

the most you can say about this is

" SOMETIMES the hose / arrow on the fuel level indicator, shows which side of the car the fuel filler cap is on "

PigletJohn · 05/02/2020 17:19

'hmmm

Renault, Peugeot, Renault.

Is there a pattern here?

FrangipaniBlue · 05/02/2020 17:30

People are confusing the hose/arrow thing.

The hose has no correlation whatsoever to where your filler cap is.

The arrow absolutely definitely is there to show you which side your filler cap is on HOWEVER not all cars have the arrow.

HTH

@PigletJohn was the whole point to tell us how many cars you have? Boring.

PigletJohn · 05/02/2020 18:04

No. Most are just names I could think of.

BalloonSlayer · 05/02/2020 18:19

I expect everyone else already knows this and I am going to look really stupid, but here goes.

If someone sent me an email with an attachment, and I wanted to send someone else the same attachment I always did one of the following:

a) forwarded them the original email with the attachment

or

b) saved the attachment to my desktop and then created a fresh email to which I attached it.

However I have found out that you can right click on the attachment, select Copy, then open a fresh email, right click anywhere in the text bit and paste and the attachment will attach itself.

Blush for only just having learned this after having used computers since before mice were invented.

BalloonSlayer · 05/02/2020 18:22

Breaking news - that may only work in outlook.

42andcounting · 05/02/2020 18:53

That a lot of newer cars have a widget that allows short people to lower the height of the seat belt so it doesn't rub on your neck. It's a little clip where the seat belt comes out of the side of the car. Life changer.

@ dementedma Can I really change typing in caps to lower case without having to delete all of it and re-type it?

Assuming you are typing in Microsoft Word, go to the Format Option on your Toolbar, then Scroll down to Change Case.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 06/02/2020 04:23

Assuming you are typing in Microsoft Word, go to the Format Option on your Toolbar, then Scroll down to Change Case.

Or highlight the block of text and hold down Shift and press F3 (I think).

Surely the small brown coins she is talking about are shillings and older coins. If you go to the bank you can swap them. Some are worth 0.5p so you need more than 1. No one is stupid enough to be throwing away 1 and 2p's.

Dilligaf81 · 07/02/2020 09:22

The reversible percentages has blown my mind! I was a bloody bank manager as well.

SoupDragon · 07/02/2020 09:24

No, it was a joke!

LakieLady · 07/02/2020 09:48

The reverse percentages thing is a mind- blowing fact that I wish I'd known before doing my tax return!

We did this at school. We got set a list of percentages to work out, and each one was followed by the reverse of itself.

The smartarses who sussed this completed the exercise in a fraction of the time it took those who didn't (this was in the days when calculators were expensive, if they'd even been invented).

I find it more fascinating that all the digits in a multiple of 9 add up to 9, tbh.

somm · 13/02/2020 03:14

I find it so frustrating when I'm desperate to know what somebody's just said on television but can't make it out due to mumbling, accents, background noise, etc, even after I've rewound a few times and turned the volume up. Only just come up with the idea today that all I need to do is turn sub-titles on and rewind that bit Blush.

Bezalelle · 13/02/2020 04:34

Turns out that Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series is not, in fact, about a record shop...

SpanishFly · 13/02/2020 08:06

The reverse percentages has genuinely blown my mind. This is a gamechanger
