I have just discovered, by accident, that if you open another tab in your web browser, you can click on the tab and drag it away so that you have a second separate browser open at the same time. I don't mean split screen but like you have opened a separate thing. Did you all know this already?

I know this is a pathetic thing to get excited about but I was literally like this Shock and then giddy with excitement.

AIBU to be be pleased with my discovery?

Top tip: if you drive an ordinary car, the hoses at most petrol stations will reach a filler on either side, so stop blocking other cars while sitting there waiting for a pump on the "right" side.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 02/02/2020 14:07

If you’ve got loads of tabs open on Chrome and accidentally lose them all by closing Chrome, just open it back up, click on the menu option in the corner and select “restore all tabs”.

That doesn't work for me, they get grit on them which scratches the paint and they don't reach properly. I only have a small car.

Cooking sweede/turnip.. put it in the microwave for 10/15 till it whistles - cut the top off and scoop out

the hoses at most petrol stations

But not all. Which is rather important. I was told off at one for trying to make it reach 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seconds or minutes?

SuzieSunshine · 02/02/2020 16:27

Some brilliant tips on here - definitely going into my watch list. Did you know that on the ends of the boxes of cling film or silver foil rolls there is a little bit of cardboard you can push in to keep the roll safely in the box when you pull out the clingfilm/foil?

basher77 · 02/02/2020 17:41

Sueelleker minutes....it will start to whistle 😅

"You can boiled eggs and cook spaghetti and noodles in the kettle."

I've been on hols where kettles have been removed from the rooms of some individuals because they've been found to be boiling crabs - freshly caught off the beach! ShockAngrySad

Use a desert spoon to peel kiwis.Cut the ends off, slice a slit down the fruit then run a desert spoon into the slit and around . Peels leaving a perfect kiwi without squashing it. A teaspoon to scrape the skin off ginger too. Or freeze it and grate straight from frozen - grated ginger in one side of yr grater and waste skin on the other.

Dent the tin first....the dent will pop out before the tin blows.

That the Americanism ‘butt’, is short for buttocks. I’d just never made the connection.

Jack80 · 02/02/2020 18:41

I've never realised this.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 02/02/2020 18:41

Take the lid off and it will just keep boiling

Scorpio75kaz · 02/02/2020 18:51

@Chocolateteabag did u know that if u accidentally type a load in caps pressing shift and f3 puts it into lower case? That blew my mind!

joesev · 02/02/2020 18:56

And dont struggle to peel squash just roast in sliced or chunks then scoop out the flesh.
Also , put salt on your soldiers when having a boiled egg then you don't have to keep salting every mouthful.

JavaQ · 02/02/2020 19:13

..and you can use a potato peeler to remove the stringy string from the convex surface of celery!

The spoons in the dips at Pizza Hut salad bar have name of said dip very subtly engraved (mayo, garlic mayo, blue cheese ). Literally spotted it this week Blush blew my tiny mind

I did know this but it is a recent discovery. I found out by talking to someone in IT dept at work. I was saying I still prefer Internet Explorer over Chrome or Edge because I could right click and open a new window which is useful for many things i do. She showed me the dragging the tab and I was like you - why had no one told me before!!!

PettyContractor · 02/02/2020 19:32

just taught someone this morning that they could save a Word document straight to pdf

I don't know about other computers, but on a windows 10 computer you can create a pdf from any program with an option to print documents, by choosing a pdf writer as the "printer". So you don't have to rely on a program having it's own built-in ability to convert to pdf.

I only found out a few weeks ago that you’re only supposed to put conditioner on the ends of your hair.

As I have naturally dry hair I just used to put it on everywhere in an effort to make it soft. Since only putting it on the ends I’ve discovered that it makes no difference to the softness of my roots and that putting conditioner on them was just making my hair more greasy - now I only have to wash my hair twice a week!

Something I only learned in recent years, how to use an android phone as a scanner. Open Google drive app, select + to create a new document, then the scan option. You can photograph multiple pages of a document and save them to drive as a single multi-page pdf document.

Newnamexxx · 02/02/2020 19:36

If you’re using tables in Word, you can split the table into two separate ones by pressing control shift enter. The table is split above the row your cursor is in.

PettyContractor · 02/02/2020 19:38

Something I learned on here at the age of fifty-something, that the pronunciation of the letter "w" means "two 'U's", it's describing what what the letter looks like.

PettyContractor · 02/02/2020 19:39

I had literally never registered that "w" was pronounced with the word "double" in it, i.e. "double-u".
