I have just discovered, by accident, that if you open another tab in your web browser, you can click on the tab and drag it away so that you have a second separate browser open at the same time. I don't mean split screen but like you have opened a separate thing. Did you all know this already?

I know this is a pathetic thing to get excited about but I was literally like this Shock and then giddy with excitement.

AIBU to be be pleased with my discovery?

Ohh double u = w, I didn't know that either!

That's reminds me that it was on one of thee threads a few years ago that I realised 'Eyore' was so called because that's the noise he makes Blush

Press the 'flying windows' button and m. Goes to the main screen

ThebishopofBanterbury · 02/02/2020 20:18

These posts are great. Especially the shocked posts from people who took the post about the brown money seriously. Does nobody get jokes these days?!

Nothing7 · 02/02/2020 20:19

@Cohle Shock that’s amazing

dimdarkashian · 02/02/2020 20:22

Impressed with that one @Cohle

sueelleker · 02/02/2020 20:29

Something I learned on here at the age of fifty-something, that the pronunciation of the letter "w" means "two 'U's", it's describing what what the letter looks like.
The French call the letter V "vay" and W is "double-vay" (double V)

FrangipaniBlue · 02/02/2020 20:55

@CharmingB I could kiss you! Since I got my iPhone Xs ever so slightly wider than my iPhone 8 any my thumb wouldn't reach the far left - now it does!!!

Did you also know that with the new iPhone update you can track your finger across the keyboard to type you don't have to tap every letter?

WineAndTiramisu · 02/02/2020 20:57

Had that on Android for years, kept having iPhone users look at me typing like I was some kind of alien! Takes a little time to master but so much quicker!

SirTobyBelch · 02/02/2020 21:20

In German v = "fow" and w = "vay", so there's no reference to a double v (or u). Volkswagen is referred to as Fow-Vay.

dementedma · 02/02/2020 21:28

The reverse percentages one has blown my mind. How could I have got to be 56 and not known that?

I don’t understand most of the computer ones but I wish I did! Can we have an idiots guide to computer tips please? Can I really change typing in caps to lower case without having to delete all of it and re-type it?

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 03/02/2020 00:21

All Sky satellites in the UK point south.

This was very handy when I was looking for a new house and wanted to work out which way the garden faced.

The estate agent was blown away by this nugget!

BohoBunney · 03/02/2020 00:43

you know when your reading a long thread? You can change the page number between the ‘prev’ and ‘next’ links by just highlighting and typing a number instead of having to flick through loads of pages.
I just set my MN settings to “all posts” rather than pages so it’s one continuous scroll. Great because you only need to wait once for it to load (I’m highly impatient)

I’m sure I read that birds eye are going to be including toaster instructions on the box soon. I’ve been doing this since I was a lazy student lol.

The percentage one is brilliant.

Also , put salt on your soldiers when having a boiled egg then you don't have to keep salting every mouthful.
This blew my mind more than it should have! So simple yet bloody genius!

If on safari on iPhone if you’re trying to search for a word on the page you’re looking at, type it into the search bar and scroll down to the section “on this page” it will say xx matches and take you to the first match on that page. Great when trying to cut and paste multiple things.

I didn’t know you could do that. I set mine to 100 posters per page (only in case a thread gets deleted halfway through reading it so I don’t miss out) but your way sounds even better and I will definitely be changing my settings to what yours are for that reason, TY!

BohoBunney · 03/02/2020 01:44

@ BritneyPeedOnALadybug Sorry it’s not “all” but “1000” posts but I think that might be a thread limit anyway? I did it for exactly they reason, I hate missing a deleted thread when they’re juicy Grin

knowmenclature · 03/02/2020 03:26

So glad I didnt try setting our home on firetoasting cheese in the toaster!

Always used the veg peeler for all veg, including, but not limited to, slicing cheese too.

A selection tip great for lots of editing is to use one two or three mouse clicks in succession according to whether you want to select a line, a para or the whole page, so long as your cursor is in the margin.

Use ctrl and tab a lot too for flicking through open windows.

Also, can anyone remember the shortcut to pasting your calculator result into your document?

I am definitely blown by the tip about the gym weights. Lmao!

FrangipaniBlue · 03/02/2020 08:29

On the the theme of things you can make in the toaster or boil in the kettle, I can categorically confirm that you CANNOT boil an egg in the microwave in its shell.

Trust me, I tried and it was not pretty!

SoupDragon · 03/02/2020 08:34

You need to make a small hole in one end first - I can't remember whether it's the pointy end or the rounder one.

TARSCOUT · 03/02/2020 08:44

@basher77 oooooh, going to buy turnip!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 03/02/2020 09:59

If you want to remove the strings from celery without peeling it, snap the celery in half with the convex side being in the outside of the snap, then you can just pull the stringy bits off.

Mikki69 · 03/02/2020 12:44

And did you know that if a brilliant thread like this starts to run you can actually time travel into the future!!! I sat down to read this thread just ten minutes ago but I look at the clock and realise it's actually an hour later!!!!

Biddie191 · 03/02/2020 12:46

But Newbie - then I just spend hours browsing horses for sale.....

PigletJohn · 03/02/2020 13:51

I am very fond of swede but they are tedious to peel and chop. I want to see some user reviews of this new method.

sassafrassj · 03/02/2020 16:44

@MouthBreathingRage Ben and Jerry's has a proper graveyard at their factory in Vermont. I still miss Cool Brittania and Fresh George Peach.

pauapaua · 03/02/2020 17:00

I had literally never registered that "w" was pronounced with the word "double" in it, i.e. "double-u".

How did you not realise? I mean surely when you say it out loud you'd realise?

It must be a pain with Sky if the back of your house faces North as then what do you do? Most local authorities round here don't allow dishes on the front of houses.

Today I found out that the apex of the heart is at the bottom but it starts at the top in the foetus and then swivels round.
