Best day of my life so far.

Just when I thought today couldn't get anymore depressing.

SueEllenMishke · 31/01/2020 14:19

Do I need to say it slower? I'm not a leaver......

However, some ( not all ) of the Brexit threads have given some balanced arguments. If you're willing to be open minded you can have a calm discussion.

I just seriously object to calling millions of people stupid, ignorant and racist. It's disgusting.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 31/01/2020 14:20

HollysBush I was being sarcastic. I bought that was clear from the rest of my post, which alluded to what you point out. Wink

TeddyIsaHe · 31/01/2020 14:21

But your whole point was that your dh had very good reasons. Which are? It’s not ‘mansplaining’ if someone asks the question. But you won’t give them because they’ll be ridiculous, like everyone else’s.

I’ve spent A LOT of time talking to people about Brexit and reading threads, comments etc. Still haven’t seen a well reasoned argument.

Igotmylipstickon · 31/01/2020 14:22

"Happy Independence Day"

Britain is still is the EU single market and therefore subject to EU rules.

Britain is no longer has MEPs in the European Parliament now so has no power in the EU.

Way to go Independence!

Mimi40 · 31/01/2020 14:24

Re: other European nations will follow. We are turning an idea that many voted for into a reality that was - and still is - unknown. Marine Le Pen, the nationalist politician previously in favour of France leaving the EU, has changed her mind since the UK's referendum, which she originally celebrated. You will have your own ideas on what has swayed her, but I can recommend looking at the media from beyond the UK for an idea of how Brexit is perceived.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 31/01/2020 14:26

enjoy our new found and hard fought freedom

Freedom to do what exactly?

OP, I'm genuinely interested to know. What are you personally not free to do right at this moment that you will be free to do after 11pm?

QuizzlyBear · 31/01/2020 14:29

our economy could be flying and the NHS recovering from how bad it has been, but you would all still come on here and complain that your avocados are costing your 12p more now than they did before brexit and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Since that represents a price increase on our weekly food bill of at least 35%, yes you're bloody right we'd complain. I'd be ok but plenty would be forced into poverty.

Still... you get your blue passports (manufactured in France) and your 'we won!' jollies.

nonsensicalmess · 31/01/2020 14:30

I will completely admit to being bitter. And increasingly so as this farce has continued.

I live in NI and was a child throughout the worst of the troubles. I saw people being shot, heard bombs go off, grew up in really traumatic surroundings. Once I had DC of
my own I was convinced they would be raised in my beautiful country but without the war I witnessed on a daily basis. I've fought for peace here, sent DC to integrated schools to try and overcome the segregation that still exists.
Who is it that has helped fund so many of the peace projects here? The fucking Tories? No of course not - it's been EU funding.

So when you sad, pathetic little Englanders gloat about this "victory", seeing it as "the best day of your life", I become increasingly bitter not only because of the damage Brexit is likely to cause throughout all areas of society, but also how little fucks are given to the damage this may cause the fragile peace we have over here. We already have sky-high levels of suicide here as a legacy of the troubles, for us these political games really can be a matter of life and death.

Cappachuchu · 31/01/2020 14:31

Own it you suckers!

SueEllenMishke · 31/01/2020 14:32

I've already been accused of mansplaining ...it's a regular occurrence on MN now if you dare to mention your husband has an opinion. It's beyond pathetic so I won't engage.

I'm not a politics expert. I voted the way I did for my personal reasons as did millions of others. I hate seeing people being bullied and this is what it amounts to.

My point is that I'm fed up of people ranting about 'stupid' people etc when the leave voters I know are anything but.
When history looks back on this I think that's what we should be embarrassed and ashamed about.

QuizzlyBear · 31/01/2020 14:33

Wow it is crazy how bitter the Remainers are. The vitriol is astonishing.

This clusterfuck has stripped us all of our citizenship of the EU and our rights - something many of us valued deeply. Why is it astonishing that we'd be livid?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 31/01/2020 14:33

@SueEllenMishke if you don't know his reasons/don't understand them it's ok to admit.
You said his reasons aren't racist or stupid so it's not unreasonable for people to ask what they were.

People genuinely do want to hear legitimate reasons.

Songsofexperience · 31/01/2020 14:37

Now is not the time to ask why anymore. It's a matter of watching out for the changes to come and hoping the country doesn't go to shit. It would help if we had a functioning opposition.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 14:39

@TeddyIsaHe
But your whole point was that your dh had very good reasons. Which are? It’s not ‘mansplaining’ if someone asks the question.

The user that suggested the other users DH come on here and explain his reasons literally said the DH would be mansplaining... in the same sentence

Songsofexperience · 31/01/2020 14:40

I am so sad that the British youth will grow up so insular, and learn hate rather than openness.

A majority of 18-30 year olds are fiercely European. They're the ones who need to make their voices heard in the long term.

FishCanFly · 31/01/2020 14:41

I just bought some turkey steaks. Thinking of all the turkeys and merry Xmas

KidLorneRoll · 31/01/2020 14:45

Isn't it amazing how many leavers come out with the line about being fed up giving reasons for voting brexit, and yet nobody can remember them doing that, and then they suddenly get all coy about stating those reasons again.

SueEllenMishke · 31/01/2020 14:46

Patronising much giveherhell??

I understood his reasons and respect them. I'm also not stupid. However, I know what will happen if I list them. I've done it previously under a different username and was attacked .....and was the reason for a name change. There is no reasonable discussion to be had especially as I don't have the passion to argue back as it's not my view.

I don't want political debate ( that's been done) I'm just fed up of the vitriol and people I love and respect being called stupid/racist etc.

KidLorneRoll · 31/01/2020 14:47

"Britain is no longer has MEPs in the European Parliament now so has no power in the EU."

It's also cost the UK more than the country has paid to the EU the entire time we've been members.

Fucking score!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 31/01/2020 14:50

@SueEllenMishke yeah my post sounded patronising because you didn't seem sure of yourself. People make big sweeping statements and can't back them up.

user1483387154 · 31/01/2020 14:54

Nope not happy. I'm a remainer and always will be

SueEllenMishke · 31/01/2020 14:54

I'm not making the statements....I voted remain ffs. Do I need to keep repeating this?? Why should I put forward arguments for leave when I didn't vote that way!!

My issue is with bullying people for voting a different way to you. It's a disgrace.

KidLorneRoll · 31/01/2020 14:55

Asking people to justify throwing the country off a cliff is not bullying. FFS.
