For the non Glaswegians - I don’t think I’ve ever seen that statue without a police cone on his head/ on the horses bum.

Bloody hell! Language has really changed...laughing at Nicola Sturgeon kissing the arse of a group of people who wouldn't piss on her if she was on fire, isn't hate!

It's contempt.

zsazsajuju · 31/01/2020 21:25

@lowlandLucky - how is flying a flag they had already on a pole they had a waste of money?

Welsh Assembly removed the EU flag this afternoon. Sad times.

Baker1985 · 31/01/2020 21:56

I don't get how you want to be independent but join the EU hardly independence In fact far from it🤔

Why do you have to ‘get it’?

Presumably it’s not your country. People think differently to you. Who knew? Hmm

zsazsajuju · 01/02/2020 07:51

The Eu is a group of independent nations who work together on certain matters. Not only can you be independent and a member of the EU, you have to be independent to be a member. Hope that helps you get it pp.

I don't think I've ever seen in better or more simply put.

I haven't read the whole thread - I saw it earlier and it may have moved on somewhat but I want to comment on the Scottish Independence issue.
I'm not Scottish, I live in London (which is also predominantly remain) but someone upthread said that Scotland is more socialist than the rest of the UK.
I don't accept this - until relatively recently, the SNP were known as the Tartan Tories (appalling term). They had slim majorities in a great number of constituencies prior to the election.
If the Scots had wanted to remain in the EU, then NS could have held firm with JC about not holding a general election. We didn't need a general election, we needed a people's vote. But that didn't suit NS's raison d'être. She wants independence at any cost. It's easy to be NS. It's easy to blame England and Westminster for everything. England and Westminster are the SNP's bogeymen, just like the EU was the bogeyman for leavers. Something to blame their woes on.
Labour was goaded into supporting a general election by being called cowards etc by the biased right wing press. And NS, who said she would do anything to ensure that Brexit didn't happen, didn't do everything she could do to ensure Brexit didn't happen.
I fully expect a pile on by those who support independence, and if I was in Scotland I would be in favour now purely to not align myself with the leavers who are predominantly in England.
But I don't think the SNP and NS are covered in glory over Brexit.

StoneofDestiny · 01/02/2020 18:25

The election brought more SNP members of Parliament. The SNP doesn't exist to bail out Corbyn (Who wouldn't declare his preferences), theunknownknown
The SNP do not exist to prop up Labour, Tory or anybody else's chosen path. I am a remainder SNP supporter but live in England. I understand why the SNP did as they did, but wish it didn't happen too.

I recall how Labour and Tory leaders did nothing to support the bid for Scottish Independence and helped pump out hostile propaganda against it. Hardly surprising that the SNP recognised their future by another route.

Remember what happened to the odious DUP who supported Boris Johnson?

There will always be one there as it is now protected following an outcry from Glaswegians when the council removed it and raise the statue on a plinth out of people's reach. Its part of the landscape and represents people power.

theunknownknown · 01/02/2020 18:35

I understand that the SNP does not exist to prop up Labour - I'm not an idiot.
My comment is more about NS seizing the opportunity to advance an independent Scotland when she had said she would do anything to prevent Brexit.
Corbyn even said he would grant another independence referendum. But that would not have been enough for NS because she knew the SNP was unlikely to win that vote if Brexit had been averted.
She played a blinder all right. And if I lived in Scotland and was an SNP voter I would be very happy. But all politicians' careers crash and burn. And hers will be no different.
