Bloody good on us.

It's a bit childish but I feel Scotland has been forced into a corner. Voted to stay in the EU and an indy ref looking unlikely so let's go full on Fud Life. It's sticking two fingers up to Westminster. I'm not impressed as such, but I get the sentiment.

Sweetdreamer93 · 29/01/2020 21:13

English and proud here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Theworldisfullofgs · 29/01/2020 21:13

Well done Scotland.

punknarwhal · 29/01/2020 21:15

You can be as proud as you want and fly the EU flag but it won't change anything. Scotland is still leaving the EU.

^ This. Which is a crying shame.

Sparklybanana · 29/01/2020 21:17

It's pathetic. Reminds me of petty point scoring when I was at school petty much everytime one of them speak. As for 'overwhelmingly' voted to remain-that's bollocks too. The electorate was 4 million people roughly and the number of votes to remain was 1.6 million. The rest either voted to leave or were significantly not bothered about the issue and didn't vote. That still means that less than half of just those registered to vote, voted to remain. I was one of them but in no way do I support the pettiness nor do I wish for the breakup of the union to go back into the EU. Scotland has a voice in the UK but it'll be the hot potato no one wants in the EU given that we have a significant amount of economic ownership and yet the snp shuts its eyes to the massive deficit and insists on spending money we don't have on a series of vanity projects and trying to score points when really they should stop whining and get on with sorting out the country. I'm fed up with it and we've chosen to up sticks and move away, following a number of friends, to England where we pay less tax and don't have to listen to the fsnp!

ChangeInTime · 29/01/2020 21:19

Kenzobaby Reading your post it's clear that it isn't Nicola who is the bampot, If you haven't already fucked off to England please feel free to do so and take your "I'm not racist." BS with you.

GrolliffetheDragon · 29/01/2020 21:20

Not as much as those saying the UK as a whole voted overwhelmingly to leave.

Starlink · 29/01/2020 21:20

Silly Nonsense Party at it again?

redwednesday · 29/01/2020 21:21

I'm fed up with it and we've chosen to up sticks and move away, following a number of friends, to England where we pay less tax and don't have to listen to the fsnp!

Welcome to the land of university tuition fees and a fucked up education system then.

ExEUCitizen · 29/01/2020 21:24

It reminds me of Rosemary Sutcliff’s “The Lantern Bearers”, the last light as the Roman Empire leaves.

If the UK does need to rejoin in a few years (and is permitted to), it will be acts like these, by remainers, that make it possible.

MaxNormal · 29/01/2020 21:26

Newmetoday being in the EU doesn't mean being run by the EU. Unlike, say, by Westminster.

TooManyPaws · 29/01/2020 21:28

When there was the independence referendum, Scots were told by the unionists that the only way we could remain in the EU was to remain in the UK. There was a question raised at Westminster before the EU referendum that all four nations should vote to leave; the London government said that it was unnecessary as the referendum was not binding but advisory only - look it up in Hansard. And now we (and Northern Ireland) are being dragged out of the EU against our wishes by this advisory referendum which suddenly became binding. There were quite a few people who voted to stay in the UK in order to remain in the EU and guess what? We would have had more chance staying in had we gone for independence. Those who say that the EU 🇪🇺 is more restricting have very little insight; no country can force another country to do something against their will but they can in the UK.

Supertrooper98 · 29/01/2020 21:28

You were given your chance for independence and you didn't take it.
You can flag all the European flags you want, you're still leaving on Friday. Flags don't change it.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 29/01/2020 21:31

And we‘ll be back. Stuff your Brexit.

RichPetunia · 29/01/2020 21:33

God how boring. I wish the SNP would bloody well shut up. You've had your once in a lifetime vote and lost. Please remember that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2020 21:34

I'd rather the Scottish Gov got on with governing

If the OECD report which Amanduh mentioned is anything like correct, it might be better if they didn't. I honestly hadn't realised things were quite that bad ...

ChangeInTime · 29/01/2020 21:34

You can flag all the European flags you want, you're still leaving on Friday. Flags don't change it.

No fucking shit. I think we're aware of that. Hence the point of the bloody post.

Supertrooper98 · 29/01/2020 21:50

No that wasn't the point of the OP's point changeintime

ChangeInTime · 29/01/2020 21:54

It literally says Scotland flying the EU flag outside Holyrood after Friday so I think we and the OP are all too aware of the fact that we're leaving on Friday if we like it or not. It isn't exactly the fucking revelation you and some others on this thread seem to think it is.

StoneofDestiny · 29/01/2020 21:59

Reading your post it's clear that it isn't Nicola who is the bampot, If you haven't already fucked off to England please feel free to do so and take your "I'm not racist." BS with you

Couldn't agree more.
For those in Scotland who think the Education System, NHS and Welfare System works well in England - it doesn't, and the Tory government doesn't give a damn about that. Too busy trying to get EU flags down.

BlokeTarget · 30/01/2020 01:32

We are leaving. Its Democratic because over 17 million people (the MAJORITY) voted for it.

Scotland is part of the UK.

If it wants independence then fine- they can then try to renegotiate their way back in. IF they get independence.

but we are leaving. Make your peace with it.

Gliese163 · 30/01/2020 02:03

No one said we're not.

NameChangeNugget · 30/01/2020 02:04

The flag waving is a stunt, each to their own. However, the Finance Secretary says that Scotland would refuse to pay their share of UK debt following independence

How the fuck would that be legal? Imagine the outcry if England went independent and left Scotland the debt? That is scandalous.

TomPinch · 30/01/2020 02:04

It's an empty gesture. The UK won't be back. Nor will an independent Scotland.

For a nation with a tradition of education (out of date: its schools are now worse than England's) it's surprising how many Scots haven't thought this one through. An independent Scotland means breaking away from its largest export market - England- and joining the EU would mean having to fulfil the requirements of joining the EU, which would take years for Scotland to satisfy.

If Brexit is silly, Scottish independence would be lunacy.

ssd · 30/01/2020 09:16

The contempt shown here by some posters for the Scots and their opinion makes me wonder why they are so desperate to keep us?!?
Denying us another referendum vote yet clearly holding us in contempt makes no sense.
We know Brexit is happening, no where in my op did I say it wasn't, so all the "it's happening, get used to it" posts makes no sense either.
