to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters

mrsmootoo · 29/01/2020 16:53

Can't forgive Brexiters for voting Leave. Find it impossible to move on from this. If there are any positives about leaving EU (?!) they are far outweighed by Remaining. Brexit posts on social media are so aggressive and unpleasant - you lost get over it. Really concerned about my kids' prospects, not being able to travel/work abroad as easily etc.

‘Bollocks to Brexit’ as a slogan, now that’s really classyWink

Why are you treating leavers like one single thinking mass?

Its one of the reasons that remainers are not taken seriously,

mummmy2017 · 30/01/2020 20:46

Boris has push things forward, fast.
He is punching for leave, not trying to keep us in la la land.

BurneyFanny · 30/01/2020 20:47

Not worth losing family

Well that’s ironic given that Brexit will make it much harder for a lot of us to see our families.

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 20:52

Theres nothing Leavers can do to repair things. It's done now.

Anxious1013 · 30/01/2020 20:52

Why are you treating leavers like one single thinking mass?

I wasn’t. I was responding to the person who said that remainers were angry and bitter and wanted to depersonalise my answer.

Having said that, I guess that most leavers don’t care about losing their EU citizenship or they would have voted remain? I don’t see how that assumption is treating Leavers as all the same?

I know Leavers voted how they did for a variety of reasons, but presumably EU citizenship was not high on any of their agendas?

hamstersarse · 30/01/2020 20:53

The remainers on this thread seem to be suffering from ‘belief superiority’

This is the belief that your opinion is better than other people. And guess what, this tends to be associated with overestimation of your relevant knowledge

It’s basic psychology (and humility) to know that our opinions are often not as justified as we believe – even for the opinions that we are most confident are better than other people’s.

Even just wondering, questioning, empathising or examining why people voted leave are actually not monsters and may have some valid points would be an improvement on this entrenched thinking displayed on this thread

Theres nothing Leavers can do to repair things. It's done now.

Are you saying you’ll feel like this forever? Really?!?

ilovesooty · 30/01/2020 20:56

I trust Boris to move us forward

One of the most ludicrous comments I've seen.

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 20:56

hamsterarse it doesn't matter now. We're leaving the country. You won. All yours.

BurneyFanny · 30/01/2020 20:57

Hard not to have belief superiority when so many Leave arguments are demonstrably wrong.

hamstersarse · 30/01/2020 20:57

Well that’s ironic given that Brexit will make it much harder for a lot of us to see our families.

What on Earth do you think is going to happen in our travels to Europe?!?!

This is catastrophic thinking in action

theunknownknown · 30/01/2020 20:58

BoneyBackJefferson
You're right, I totally am small-minded on this subject. You make that sound like it is something to be ashamed of? I'm very happy with my views thank you. At least I know I'm not racist - and don't have to come up with all sorts of reasons to justify the way I voted to hide that fact.

When I look at who the leave voters were in bed with (Johnson, IDS, Gove, the ERG, Farage et al) I find it hard to be convinced you are people worthy of my respect or open-mindedness.

mummmy2017 · 30/01/2020 20:58

Your echo chamber might not Trust Boris, but here is a news flash , millions think he is the bees knees.
This man will get his place in history for taking us out of the EU.

BoneyBackJefferson · 30/01/2020 20:59

Anxious1013

So why did you post that leavers like Johnson?

Not all do.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 30/01/2020 20:59

@dimsum123 I’m not mummy2017 though, am I? And wasn’t it you upthread that said in one of your posts something like “I answered your question now you answer mine”? But you haven’t answered mine. I put a question to you: Where will the EU be in 50 years time? If you can’t or are unwilling to answer, just say so. I know what the answer is though, because it’s the same answer for every single person on the planet: Nobody knows. But that would be admittance in that you didn’t know what you were voting for, the same thing you accused mummy2017 of, so I can see why you’re hesitant to answer...

hamstersarse · 30/01/2020 21:00

it doesn't matter now. We're leaving the country. You won. All yours

Do you see how this sounds?

Going for the worlds greatest flounce?

Why do you need to leave the country?

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 21:00

This man will get his place in history for taking us out of the EU.

That is certainly true. Time will tell just how kindly history views that.

GFJoe · 30/01/2020 21:00

The remainers on this thread seem to be suffering from ‘belief superiority’

Just like leavers don't like being treated like a hive mind, nor do remainers.

This is the belief that your opinion is better than other people. And guess what, this tends to be associated with overestimation of your relevant knowledge

Goes both ways. The leave vote wasn't the majority overall anyway, and even if it was, it doesn't mean the masses know best either. It could be argued that leavers are suffering from a lack of current knowledge too.

I gotta say, it does make it hard to get behind leave with comments like this. Luckily not all leavers are the same. Fortunately.

Deadsouls · 30/01/2020 21:00

I don't treat leavers as one homogeneous mass. I know that people voted to leave for a variety of reasons. There are many different versions of Brexit and what it means.

But...one thing I think leavers and remainers can surely agree upon is that for Brexit to have been worth the cost; financial, emotional, existential, then life outside of the EU in terms of trade deals, security and so on has to outweigh the benefits we already enjoy.
The deal that BJ negotiates will have to be better than what we already have.

mummmy2017 · 30/01/2020 21:00

theunknownknown, you are just words on a thread, people don't care if you respect them.
Have you not realised this yet?

BoneyBackJefferson · 30/01/2020 21:01

theunknownknown

What makes you think that you are worthy of us wanting your respect?
And you certainly haven't shown any open mindedness.

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 21:01

hamstersarse I have other reasons for going, it's not a flounce Grin

It is however bloody good timing.

hamstersarse · 30/01/2020 21:03

At least I know I'm not racist

Really? Are you still trotting this out?

It’s really a shit argument. Honestly, leave voters just roll their eyes at this. You just show yourself to be wildly uninformed and totally incapable of debate

BonnesVacances · 30/01/2020 21:04

I can understand why leavers get so het up. They think opinions based on misinformation are facts. Easy to conflate the two. When they try to explain these 'facts' to you and you disprove them with actual facts, they get humpy and say their opinion is just as valid as yours. Thus conflating the two again. And on it goes. For fucking eternity. Hmm
