to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters

Can't forgive Brexiters for voting Leave. Find it impossible to move on from this. If there are any positives about leaving EU (?!) they are far outweighed by Remaining. Brexit posts on social media are so aggressive and unpleasant - you lost get over it. Really concerned about my kids' prospects, not being able to travel/work abroad as easily etc.

I am profoundly sad that we are leaving and I believe that voters were duped by a few devious people who lied and cheated their way to victory and who had no interest other than their own personal gain.

So, yes I do forgive the Leave voters - but NO, I DO NOT forgive those who tricked them into voting for an outcome that will be detrimental to us all.

motorcyclenumptiness · 30/01/2020 00:10

And they were also sick of being governed by the EU on things like human rights
It'll come as a bit of a disappointment to those who voted leave for that reason that the Council of Europe isn't an EU institution

ineedaholidaynow · 30/01/2020 00:10

Marriedtoapenguin do those people who voted Leave honestly believe it’s going to be better after Brexit? If times are hard for them now it’s almost definitely going to be harder for them after Brexit, at least in the short term. But maybe in 100 years it might be better Confused

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 00:10

He won courtesy of FPTP, it really wasn't a landslide, and if you believe anything that comes out of that lying turds mouth then more fool you.

Deadsouls · 30/01/2020 00:11

@Chocowoka
It seems as if you are saying that if immigrants earn over a certain income threshold and pay taxes then you would welcome them. Does that apply to EU citizens? So if a citizen from an EU member state were of that calibre, then that would be okay.

EnjoyyourBrexit · 30/01/2020 00:11

I've lived in the NW and taught in the most deprived areas. None of that was to do with the EU, it was our successive governments. Christ on a bike. Do you really think things are going to be better for you from Feb 1st? Or are you happy to wait until the end of transition? Or when the trade deals are finally settled, years from now. What do you think will improve. You might get a few vote buying initiatives announced before the next election, but not much else. Good luck.

Chocowoka · 30/01/2020 00:12

@Deadsouls

No particular nationality just the general influx of the unskilled.

Exactly as I stated, open Britain up to people from any nationality, whether it be EU or non EU. If they e fit skills we need they should be welcomed with open arms. Same as Canada.

Chocowoka · 30/01/2020 00:13

*have the skills

EnjoyyourBrexit · 30/01/2020 00:13

I'm betting that people banging on about Australian points style system have not the foggiest about what it entails and suspect it is just a soundbite you've latched onto.

Good. Luck.

raskolnikova · 30/01/2020 00:13

Come up North, bask in the glory that was life under the EU. That's why people voted leave.

You say that as if none of us could possibly be northern or living in the north already Hmm

ineedaholidaynow · 30/01/2020 00:16

So who is going to do the unskilled work that some EU citizens currently do then Chocowoka?

motorcyclenumptiness · 30/01/2020 00:18

I voted for what i believed to be best for the country, long term (not, I think best for my generation, but I believe best for 50, 100 years and so on)
Given your gift of foresight it would be remiss of me not to ask for Saturday's winning lottery numbers

EnjoyyourBrexit · 30/01/2020 00:19

I saw a very good point made that 'unskilled' work is not actually unskilled, it's just a particular set of skills that we place low value on in our society. Work that needs to be done, we look down on. Picking fruit is a skilled task. Back breaking. We look down on it. Caring for people, incredibly skilled. We look down on it. Vital jobs that need to be done. "Unskilled". Who is going to do them then?

Chocowoka · 30/01/2020 00:20

@Peregrina

The tories cut immigration because we were already interviewed with the EU and had no say over free movement. Hence people wanted out.

Why would highly skilled EU Doctors and Dentists leave? They are the candidates that Britain needs. They will always be sought after. The cap wouldn’t affect them.

Let’s be honest, no one knows exactly what’s going to happen so I heard this, this was confirmed then, he said that... is all speculation.

The point is 17.5 million people voted to leave so they have to honour it

Idolikeanicepieceofcake · 30/01/2020 00:22

I am perplexed about why people are worrying about whether their children will be able to live/work in the EU...I should think it will be much the same as wanting to go and live/work in countries outside of the EU. I knew lots of people who went to uni in the USA, Canada and Australia, and now I have friends who work in China, Singapore, NZ and Thailand. Surely you will just need to apply for a visa to work/study in Europe?

CuteOrangeElephant · 30/01/2020 00:24

Why would we leave?

Because we've not exactly been reassured that we are still welcome here.

Chocowoka · 30/01/2020 00:25

@ineedaholidaynow

The lazy idle brits that live on the dole and haven’t worked in their life and don’t intend too. Their benefits would be stopped too if I was in charge 😂

My cousin is about 50. I think he’s worked about 10 years of his life and the rest of the time lived on benefits. There’s not a thing wrong with him except he’s idle

ineedaholidaynow · 30/01/2020 00:25

So if we don’t know what’s going to happen how can people say they knew what they were voting for when they voted Leave?

ineedaholidaynow · 30/01/2020 00:27

Idle lazy people aren’t suddenly going to get jobs because we’ve got Brexit done.

MrsBrentford · 30/01/2020 00:27

Yes.

And Ann Widdicombe really let herself down today.

MrsBrentford · 30/01/2020 00:27

I mean No YANBU

Deadsouls · 30/01/2020 00:27

@Chocowoka
You are saying that the reason voted leave was because of uncontrolled migration.
But then go on to say these 'unskilled' workers could be of any nationality, EU or non EU.
So I'm not sure how leaving the EU solves that particular problem.

After Polish born migrants, the next two largest migrant populations are from India and Pakistan.

After Brexit, the government is actually being urged to lower the minimum threshold salary for migrants from £30,000 and Johnson might actually be ditching the idea of the Australian points based system.
If you do a quick google search, this information is easily found.

Deadsouls · 30/01/2020 00:32

Anyway as stated here, no one knows, it's all speculation. Therefore it logically follows that if it's all speculation, no one actually knew what they were voting for.

At least we can all rest safe with this knowledge.

Chocowoka · 30/01/2020 00:38

@Deadsouls

I said the reason people voted leave was due to uncontrolled immigration, not migration.

I’m not sure where you’re getting that I said “uskilled workers could be from EU or non EU”. I said skilled workers could and should be welcomed from anywhere.

Yes, but the reason he is lowering the income threshold is so we can attract more teachers for example, where there is a shortage here. If we need teacher we need teachers. We need them to keep our schools running so if a Canadian teacher wants to come here, happy days!

MissGuernsey · 30/01/2020 00:39

Oh do get a life OP

I have just been laid off from work. I worked nights. Desperately searching for a new role. I inputted key words into a job search engine. I saw a job advertised in a warehouse. Similar role, utilising my skills in logistics, operations etc. The advert was in Polish. I kid you not. The job was in West London.

I will celebrate tomorrow.
