to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters

Can't forgive Brexiters for voting Leave. Find it impossible to move on from this. If there are any positives about leaving EU (?!) they are far outweighed by Remaining. Brexit posts on social media are so aggressive and unpleasant - you lost get over it. Really concerned about my kids' prospects, not being able to travel/work abroad as easily etc.

I know plenty of people who voted to remain and plenty who voted to leave and plenty who chose to keep which way they voted to themselves. What I do not encounter is leavers who are gloating whereas I do encounter remainers who are incredibly rude towards leavers.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 29/01/2020 21:34

It’s been some years now... I think you should get over it. I haven’t RTFT because I’ve read it all before in other threads.

Someone will undoubtedly be along soon to accuse me of being a racist Brexit voter who is against “brown people” when I am a “brown person” myself...

MaxNormal · 29/01/2020 21:36

It’s been some years now...

Oh it's only the beginning. The fun is only really going to start in 2021.

SevenStones · 29/01/2020 21:36

44% of people voted for the Tories in the GE. Only a majority because of our backwards and not fit for purpose voting system.

52% voting for Brexit is hardly "the people have spoken".

Thankfully, I'm lucky enough to have a grandparent born on the island of Ireland, so I'm still an EU citizen.

For anyone expecting me to "get over it", you can fuck off.

hamstersarse · 29/01/2020 21:37

You can chose to just dismiss this as racism or try and understand there are legitimate reasons for these views.

ScreamingLadySutch · 29/01/2020 21:38

"Meanwhile people like ScreamingLadySutch don't seem to give a shit about the people who have been killed via the death penalty who have been manifestly innocent. The Venn diagram of Brexiteers and death penalty supporters contains a cross section of some people I will be very glad not to share a country with."

This is called 'so what you are saying is' .

Then, there is slur by innuendo (Moral superiority established, argument WON!)

Doesn't work with me, sorry

How about asking me what I think instead of 'deciding' what I think?

Sadly for you, making debate about rehabilitation v punishment verboten and taboo; and moral screeching, leaves me unmoved.

So: why is the very real false evidence problem as you outline, make punishment an impossible solution?

Why should cost over locking up true criminals, be borne by cost to the public?

nobodyimportant · 29/01/2020 21:38

‘thick’, ‘racists chavs’ from shithole areas that didn’t reap any benefit of EU membership.

Except that deprived areas absolutely do receive EU funding.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 29/01/2020 21:40

@sweeneytoddsrazor

“What I do not encounter is leavers who are gloating whereas I do encounter remainers who are incredibly rude towards leavers.”

I don’t have many conversations about Brexit face to face but have seen plenty of comments on both sides being incredibly rude. As someone who did vote for Brexit, I find it absolutely pathetic that some people are celebrating and glorifying the Brexit date, even saying they are going to have a party when it happens. Unless they are directly involved with the EU and have bad experiences directly because of them, they have no need to celebrate as nothing is going to change.

This also equally applies to remain voters who think the UK is going to suddenly turn into a third world country once we leave the EU.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 29/01/2020 21:41

@MaxNormal

Oh it's only the beginning. The fun is only really going to start in 2021.

I’ll await your thread in 2021 then...

BoxedWine · 29/01/2020 21:42

Quite max, all the people on both sides of the divide who think Friday is going to be the end of it are going to be very disappointed. It's the start. The last four years of loveliness were merely the warmup.

Also, justanotherlurker asking someone who pointed out that Leave voters haven't exactly shown much evidence of taking NI into consideration if they were an IRA supporter is a strong contender for the stupidest post of the thread so far.

Justanotherlurker · 29/01/2020 21:42

Unfortunately many leave voting areas have benefited from EU funding and their livelihoods might now be at risk.

Part funding millennium walkways, statues and 'community centers' hasn't had the impact though, what the left leaning remainers need to get into their heads is they are championing a neolib institution with all the ills, you cannot just blame it on the tores just as much as you cannot blame it on the eu.

Pretending you are on some moral high ground with being on some kind of 'right side of history meme' is just as devisive, the most ardent remainers on MN where somehow championing Corbyn in the last GE, the correlation of being out of touch, pretending they can speak for other people and spouting nothing but headline politics is on par to those easily fooled by the bus.

The vocal remainers have to give up the pretence of being left wing and accept they are neolib at heart, that is the 30% who cannot accept why we are leaving

wincarwoo · 29/01/2020 21:43

I have never seen a remained say that we will turn into a 3rd world country.

We will notice a difference though. And if funding isn't replaced by our government then deprived areas will be hit hard

SunbeamsOverhead · 29/01/2020 21:43

YANBU op.
But I'm more pissed at the Tory voters right now 🤷🏻‍♀️
We will certainly see them ALL next Tuesday!

KenDodd · 29/01/2020 21:45

@Justanotherlurker

I'm still waiting for you to post my antisemitism apologist posts? I am very keen to see them.

Redwinestillfine · 29/01/2020 21:46

The voting percentages on this show that there's a lot of work to be done before any side move on

Miljea · 29/01/2020 21:46

This sort of thing.

OK, if they and their employees all voted Leave, we have to assume they did the maths, thus accept the 'rough with the smooth'.

MGC31 · 29/01/2020 21:48

I voted. The outcome wasn’t what I voted for. I shrugged. I moved on with my life.

The hysteria and vitriol from BOTH sides is pathetic, and boring. It bores me to tears all this wailing and gnashing of teeth from BOTH sides.

ALL politicians lie. ALL politicians give literally no fucks about any of you, us, the little people. Either outcome was always going to be shit because politics in this country is full of absolute cretins that are in it for themselves and only themselves. The sooner some of you grasp that the better.

sam221 · 29/01/2020 21:49

Well unfortunately there is not much that can now be done, other than watch the carnage. I am hoping though that from next week the extra promised £350 Million to the NHS by the leavers, materialises!

Justanotherlurker · 29/01/2020 21:49

44% of people voted for the Tories in the GE. Only a majority because of our backwards and not fit for purpose voting system.

Didn't see Labout calling for voting reform and everyone knew the system so pulling figures is irrelevant.

52% voting for Brexit is hardly "the people have spoken".

Tell the SNP that, if in doubt maybe add in the consituents that where so close to a remain win, or do you treat that differently.

Thankfully, I'm lucky enough to have a grandparent born on the island of Ireland, so I'm still an EU citizen.

Ahh, Ireland, a utopia and totally not playing the neolib rules of offering the likes of Facebook et all a tax haven. It is such a more welcoming place, tell me how inner cities are not experiencing the same problems that england is. This just shows, the 'thick, voting for christmas' types are evident on both sides and yet I doubt you even see it.

WeWantSweet · 29/01/2020 21:50

Most people don't have skills that can be deemed special and they would rather live and work in the country they were born in. How outrageous.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 29/01/2020 21:51

@wincarwoo

Took me one minute to find. Just searching via Mumsnet, btw.

to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters
moochew · 29/01/2020 21:52

They wanted Brexit, they voted for the Tories - I hope the Tories see them right but I have a nasty feeling the nasty party won't change - I hope I'm wrong.

Justanotherlurker · 29/01/2020 21:53

Well unfortunately there is not much that can now be done, other than watch the carnage. I am hoping though that from next week the extra promised £350 Million to the NHS by the leavers, materialises!

If you did understand the argument that you wanted to score points on then you would have used the realistic argument that has been drawn out for the last 3 years, the fact you don't kind of highlights again how it isn't those who voted leave are just driven by headlines and have no real understanding of the situation, so fair play, you proved a point you probably didn't want to.

nobodyimportant · 29/01/2020 21:54

What I do not encounter is leavers who are gloating

I had to hide a few people on FB who were posting gloating memes after the election. It was unbearable.
