To think you eat the skin of a kiwi?!

Was going to put this in chat but thought I’d opt for the voting to get a clearer picture!
Dds and I eat the skin of the kiwi fruit. Dh and ds think we are weird. It’s much quicker, I’m sure it’s really nutritious and there’s less waste (okay, actually I just started eating the skin when I realised I was too lazy to bother peeling them).
I put it to you, good people of MN, AW(we)BU?

I eat it like a boiled egg too. That's to say I cut it in half and eat with a spoon, I don't dip toast in it.

Pootle40 · 27/01/2020 22:41

I eat them skin on

BettyAll1 · 27/01/2020 22:42

I hope I never ever witness anyone doing this. Glad I know it’s a thing now so I can close my eyes if I see someone eating a kiwi just in case.

LadyLovelyLockz · 27/01/2020 22:45

Eww no

AmelieTaylor · 27/01/2020 22:45

It really is fine, no different to a peach or plum or apple skin

I suggest you buy fresher fruit if that’s the case.

@TheChosenTwo. You do you.

Personally I think the skin is vile. I’m a cut in half & use a spoon kind of girl

But as long as it’s the fruit 🥝🥝🥝🥝& not our birds, I really don’t care what you do.

manicinsomniac · 27/01/2020 22:48

Eeew, no.

I do really like mango skin though. Learned to eat it in Brazil - the kids I was working with put salt on it?!

They also tricked me into eating pineapple skin by looking horrified when I left it and saying it was a waste of food. This was in a shelter for street children so I was shamed into eating it. Then they burst out laughing and threw theirs away! Angry Grin

Blubelle7 · 27/01/2020 22:49

I too started doing it as I hates peeling them and found it surprisingly still tasted good

Blubelle7 · 27/01/2020 22:50

Mango with salt.. yum especially the green firm ones and yes with the skin too

Kanga83 · 27/01/2020 22:51

No! I eat the core of apples but the skin of a kiwi? That's far too hairy bollock like for me.

Yeahnah2020 · 27/01/2020 22:52

You can eat it, but you really shouldn’t 🤮

BingoLittlesUncle · 27/01/2020 22:52

Yes skin eater here too.
Also thought you were talking about the small flightless birds.

Gulsink · 27/01/2020 22:57

Only if you're the kind of person who eats the apple, core and all.

DiegoSaber · 27/01/2020 22:58

I cut in half and spoon out, but I do remember reading once that it's fine to eat them. Totally forgot about it, but I'm gonna try it next time I buy some. What does the skin taste like, OP?

busybarbara · 27/01/2020 23:03

I haven't tried it (yet!) but I'm surprised at the squeamish "they're hairy" comments. If you would put a man's ball in your mouth this doesn't seem any worse? Grin

Macca84 · 27/01/2020 23:04

Skin eater here

Nomorechips · 27/01/2020 23:07

All those tiny hairs on your insides? Yuk. Not for me. I don't like the gold ones. The ones I tried were flavourless.

viques · 27/01/2020 23:09

Surely the only way to eat a kiwi is to treat it like a boiled egg, cut off its end and go in with a teaspoon. The only difference is you don't need to make a hole in the shell to stop witches using it as a boat to sink ships.

theoriginalmadambee · 27/01/2020 23:15

If you would put a man's ball in your mouth this doesn't seem any worse?

Please tell me you are not chewing them too? 🤣

RB68 · 27/01/2020 23:15

cut top off and use a teaspoon...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 23:41

They also tricked me into eating pineapple skin by looking horrified when I left it and saying it was a waste of food

I don't eat pineapple skin, but I eat the core.

RightYesButNo · 27/01/2020 23:53

Be careful if anyone here is adding kiwi to a calorie tracker or food tracker. The vitamin C and fibre content are increased significantly by eating the skin, so don’t get your values wrong (according to CA Kiwifruit Commission), as your tracker may be “adding” fibre you’re not eating if you leave out the skin.

Eating the skin increases the fibre, folate, and vitamin E, in particular, by 30-50% (according to Healthline), apparently.

Not sure about fibre content from licking hairy moose balls instead. Google not much help. Grin Don't lie, Google; we KNOW you KNOW.

VenusTiger · 28/01/2020 00:13

If you want to eat a kiwi the lazy way, without feeling like you've licked the lounge rug - cut one end off and eat with a teaspoon.

VenusTiger · 28/01/2020 00:16

@busybarbara a man's ball 😂😂 I'm laughing at they way you've said ball and not balls lmao

WonderWebbs · 28/01/2020 00:17

@hazeyjane Thanks for your post really made me laugh.

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 28/01/2020 00:20

@Solina I eat the skin and enjoy the horror it causes people

Me too! 😂
