To think you eat the skin of a kiwi?!

Was going to put this in chat but thought I’d opt for the voting to get a clearer picture!
Dds and I eat the skin of the kiwi fruit. Dh and ds think we are weird. It’s much quicker, I’m sure it’s really nutritious and there’s less waste (okay, actually I just started eating the skin when I realised I was too lazy to bother peeling them).
I put it to you, good people of MN, AW(we)BU?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:58

I was worrying about Hornist too.

Gastric apple orchards are no joke, I can promise you!

Queenest · 27/01/2020 22:00

Er no.

Tunnocks34 · 27/01/2020 22:05

I cut the top off like they are boiled eggs and scoop them out!

Mayorquimby2 · 27/01/2020 22:06

It's the tastiest part

FurrySlipperBoots · 27/01/2020 22:07

In the nicest possible way OP, you're a proper weirdo!! Grin Do you eat banana skins and orange peel too?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 22:08

Tastiest and apparently most nutritious just like the skin of a mouse, I expect

Crockof · 27/01/2020 22:08

@SchadenfreudePersonified I did double take but then Libby made perfect sense.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 27/01/2020 22:08

speakout: No, it's like the pelt of a mouse.

How do you know??? Actually, please don't answer that. Boak.

DistanceCall · 27/01/2020 22:10

I sometimes eat it when I can't be bothered. Particularly if the kiwi is soft. It's not a big deal.

TheNestedIf · 27/01/2020 22:11

I only ate them rarely because they were so hard to peel and I hated the waste. Then a colleague told me the skin is edible. And it is! Joy!

And, now, thank you, thank you, thank you to @onalongsabbatical for the mango skin tip. The more time eating and the less time peeling the better.

Shannith · 27/01/2020 22:11

OP you are what is often referred to on MN as a savage.

A very savage savage.

Faez · 27/01/2020 22:12

Another who just cuts in half and scoops it out

BreconBeBuggered · 27/01/2020 22:17

What a faff with the scooping and spooning. So dainty. The skin is edible and I eat it.

Saisong · 27/01/2020 22:19

My kids happily yomp kiwis and mango, skins and all (though i do wash them first). And the skin of butternut squash (cooked).

tomatoesandstew · 27/01/2020 22:24

I eat the skin off a kiwi its fine but people are very squeamish when they see me do it.

KeepLosingThings · 27/01/2020 22:26

It's fine. My dd ONLY likes the skin and not the middle part!

Pieinthesky11 · 27/01/2020 22:28

Cut it in half.eat it with a spoon

eomma · 27/01/2020 22:28

just no

eomma · 27/01/2020 22:29

i’m deathly allergic to kiwis and even i know that’s forbidden

SinkGirl · 27/01/2020 22:32

Nope, nope, nope, and I eat apple cores so I'm not generally fussy.

I was going to say, it’s like those weirdos who eat apple cores but apparently even you people have standards... 😬

Likethebattle · 27/01/2020 22:34

Don’t peel them, cut them in half and scoop the innards out with a teaspoon.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 27/01/2020 22:36

Cut it in half.eat it with a spoon

Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?

Because it's dull, you twit! It'll hurt more!

12FreeRangeEggs · 27/01/2020 22:37

No i don’t. My family had a kiwi farm when we were kids which i sometimes visited and i remember the skin being considered an irritant to some people, especially children, due to a high concentration of something within the skin (can’t remember what). So no never eaten it and never would i guess. I know some people do and they are still alive though.

Sceptre86 · 27/01/2020 22:38

Just no
