To think you eat the skin of a kiwi?!

Was going to put this in chat but thought I’d opt for the voting to get a clearer picture!
Dds and I eat the skin of the kiwi fruit. Dh and ds think we are weird. It’s much quicker, I’m sure it’s really nutritious and there’s less waste (okay, actually I just started eating the skin when I realised I was too lazy to bother peeling them).
I put it to you, good people of MN, AW(we)BU?

Eurgh - I'm amazed anyone eats the skin. It's just wrong.

hazeyjane · 27/01/2020 21:19

Fuck me. I thought I'd heard it all when I saw the thread title....then someone posts, I’m shocked at all the people peeing kiwis. and I realised the whole world is a broken place if we are not only eating the skins of kiwi fruit, but also pissing the the bloody things.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:19

*nobby bit, not Libby bit

GrassWasGreener · 27/01/2020 21:20

Weird imo

My goat however loves kiwis with the skin on lol

edeluna · 27/01/2020 21:22

When I was a kid in the USA in the 1980s, kiwi were a new thing and I remember an advert that showed a bite taken out of an unpeeled kiwi, to point out that the skin is edible. I tried it, but didn't find it very pleasant. But if you like it, go for it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:23

I discovered that I can eat mango skin! After hours and hours of my life scooping out mangos!

WHAT?!

After the hours of peeling, the mess, the sticky hands, the juice clagged to my clothes . . .

. . . you can just chew through the thick leathery skin?

nocoolnamesleft · 27/01/2020 21:24

Definitely scooping out with a teaspoon approach.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 27/01/2020 21:25

I peel for the kids. Mum eats them very much like a boiled egg with a teaspoon.

The non-hairy ones I guess I could eat without gagging on the hairiness I suppose

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/01/2020 21:25

No way! You’re strange OP!

vampirethriller · 27/01/2020 21:25

Absolutely not. It would be like licking a mouse. A cold green slimy mouse.

Patchworksack · 27/01/2020 21:25

Surely you cut them in half and scoop out the insides with a teaspoon? The skin is grim.

GoodDogBellaBoo · 27/01/2020 21:26

Sprayed with chemicals, so poisonous not healthy if that is your reason to eat the peel.

mynameisMrG · 27/01/2020 21:26

Yup I eat it like an apple. Love it

onalongsabbatical · 27/01/2020 21:28

@SchadenfreudePersonified yes! I know! I just thought of it one day and it was fine! I know all those hours and hours of MESS and STICKINESS!!!!!! OVER! Ha ha ha ha ha! Grin

GaaaaarlicBread · 27/01/2020 21:28

I always have , and my Dad eats oranges with the skin on- now that is wrong 🤣

MissClareRemembers · 27/01/2020 21:28

Yuck! It’d be like eating a tarantula.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:28

Absolutely not. It would be like licking a mouse.

Is it just me who wouldn't have a problem with licking a mouse? We had pet mice and I used to kiss them.

I would only lick in the direction of the hair though. It would be beyond weird to go against the grain. Doesn't seem to bother the cats, though

Eckhart · 27/01/2020 21:28

I eat the skin, OP. I totally get what all pps are saying about hairy and tough, but that's why is has such a lovely soft sweet middle. Perfect combination.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:30

Definitely going to try the mango thing onalongsabbatical.

I can see this transforming my life in ways I'd never imagined.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:31

My Grannie used to eat orange peel itsemily,

DivGirl · 27/01/2020 21:32

Wish there Satan - I think that's enough from you.

They're hairy. We don't eat hairy things.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/01/2020 21:32

Not once in 50 years have I done this

So therefore only weirdos do this

ClinkyMonkey · 27/01/2020 21:32

I know you’re ‘supposed’ to, but .... no, ta very much. I have tried it. It’s like furry mould.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/01/2020 21:34

They have fur on them, not nice soft fur, like on a cat, but like a doormat! I eat them like an egg, with a teaspoon.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 27/01/2020 21:34

Nooooo! Slice the top off and scoop out the green bits with a tea spoon, as if it’s a soft boiled egg!
