To think you eat the skin of a kiwi?!

Was going to put this in chat but thought I’d opt for the voting to get a clearer picture!
Dds and I eat the skin of the kiwi fruit. Dh and ds think we are weird. It’s much quicker, I’m sure it’s really nutritious and there’s less waste (okay, actually I just started eating the skin when I realised I was too lazy to bother peeling them).
I put it to you, good people of MN, AW(we)BU?

I don't much like apple skin either, I only eat peeled apples now.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 27/01/2020 20:59

Oh, my mum always told me there was something very dangerous about kiwi skin damaging your oesophagus (or was that an 80s scare story?!)

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 27/01/2020 20:59

I love the skin! Rest of my family think I'm weird though Grin

Crockof · 27/01/2020 20:59

Yes we are skin eaters however the dinner lady at ds first school spoke to the teacher about his unpealed kiwi

Sweetdreamer93 · 27/01/2020 21:00

Please present yourself to MN’s box of shame and close the lid.
We will collectively decide how long you should be there!

avocadont · 27/01/2020 21:02

I have always eaten the skin!! And the people saying they cut it in half/cut off the top and scoop out the innards have it right too- except I then eat the skin after

Overtheknee · 27/01/2020 21:02

The skin is where the nutrients are. I eat kiwis thinly sliced. Hardly even taste the skin that way.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/01/2020 21:03

Actually, I don't peel oranges or satsumas/clementines either, I cut them in to quarters and eat them that way.
It seems I'm very fussy about fruit.

Solina · 27/01/2020 21:08

I eat the skin and enjoy the horror it causes people. It really is fine, no different to a peach or plum or apple skin. Plus it has all the nutrients.

Runhomejack · 27/01/2020 21:08

They don't feel that furry in the mouth! Although, I can tell the difference when I eat the golden kiwis as they are practically bald.

Leeds2 · 27/01/2020 21:10

It never occurred to me that you could eat the skin. Or that anyone would want to!
I have never done so, and never will! Mind, I don't buy kiwis very often anyway!

QueenoftheIceAge · 27/01/2020 21:11

“They taste lovely with the fur removed. Just like peaches or beef.”

🤣

georgialondon · 27/01/2020 21:11

Yuck

Mumbassa · 27/01/2020 21:13

Eurgh

Waveysnail · 27/01/2020 21:14

I didnt think you could. Learn something new every day

onalongsabbatical · 27/01/2020 21:14

I discovered that I can eat mango skin! After hours and hours of my life scooping out mangos!

speakout · 27/01/2020 21:15

No, it's like the pelt of a mouse.

TheChosenTwo · 27/01/2020 21:16

Well this isn’t going in my favour at all looking at the votes, of 284 voters, 90% are declaring me unreasonable. You people know nothing Grin

You utter lunatic.

MissBattleaxe · 27/01/2020 21:17

They are Chewbacca's testicles. Do not eat the fuzzy bits.

willowmelangell · 27/01/2020 21:17

No. Top off, wrap a napkin around it and eat like soft boiled egg, with tea spoon. I introduced this method to packed lunches at school. Before this, the dinner ladies had been peeling them.Shock

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/01/2020 21:18

I eat kiwis like apples - skin and all. The only bit I leave is that Libby bit at the end.

It's a bit like chewing coconut matting, but the fibre has to be good for me, plus it's only the texture that gets affected, not the taste.

Strugglingtoquit · 27/01/2020 21:18

Gross! Far too hairy

MitziK · 27/01/2020 21:18

I'm not convinced, @speakout. I'll have to ask the cat about that one.

He doesn't eat them or kiwifruit skins. Suppose that's why I find both abandoned under the kitchen table on Sunday mornings.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 27/01/2020 21:18

I've tried it. I am still alive. But I'd prefer to have them peeled.
