AIBU to stick a massive sign on CF car parked in my space?

I live in a small private estate. We have big signs everywhere saying it's private parking and permits only and an enforcement company that comes round. However this never deters people and they never seem to get caught with a ticket! I have one parking space. Which is numbered. It is clearly NOT a visitors parking space nor a space for random people to park in.

WIBU to print a massive poster sized sign and saying it's not their space and not to park there to put on the car for all to see? Because I currently can't park in my own space and am risking a parking fine myself by not being parked within a marked bay even with a permit. I've had to put a note on my car explaining that a car I don't know is in my space without permission just in case.

Our estate has parking restrictions/enforcement. The company has a app where you can report issues like this directly to them and they will automatically send out the fines etc

I heard a lovely story about a concert in Sydney years ago, when a non-disabled person parked a car without a sticker in a disabled space outside the venue and disappeared. The band were handing out stickers and some of the concert-goers registered their disapproval by sticking their stickers on the windscreen.
Then more and more of them got in on the act until the car was completely covered in the stickers, to the extent that the doors were unopenable - thus allowing the police to catch the baffled offender when he returned to his car to drive off (he had no legitimate reason to park there).

The band mentioned in the show that there would be extra stickers available for anyone who had lost theirs to such a good cause Grin

Maybe cover this thing in notes so that it can't be easily driven away at a moment's notice - but also send the numberplate to the authorities who can inflict a fine on them.

Oops - meant to say "car without a permit" at the start there!

Bloke23 · 20/01/2020 10:40

My mum and dad have 2 parking spaces behind there house for them, every house has them! People would park in 1 of the spaces, so i used to just block them in and wait for them to come round to the house

BlackeyedSusan · 20/01/2020 10:41

Make it difficult for them. Lots of post it notes? Putting notes on the front windows too. Under all the door handles? No damage but annoying to remove and embarrassing.

Got any friends who would share the photo on social media to embarrass them?

MrsCasares · 20/01/2020 10:42

Who voted YABU???? Probably the cf who parked in your place. Please tell me you didn’t come off a night shift with no place to park.

KeepThosePlatesSpinning · 20/01/2020 10:43

Agree about not using prit stick. The last thing you want is coming back to your own car and finding someone's been round it with the prit stick / vaseline. They'll know which car is your's once you start parking there again.

Penners99 · 20/01/2020 10:44

My sister had a CF park on her drive once. Her DH and me used two trolley Jack's to lift and slide the car to the double yellow lines opposite. Quick call to the parking people resulted in car being towed. Sis denied all knowledge when CF returned THE NEXT DAY!

skiptheskip · 20/01/2020 10:44

Go and knock around all of your neighbours to find out who's car/visitor it is and tell them to get it moved.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/01/2020 10:46

Is there cctv? If not just key it

A wumman after my own heart!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 20/01/2020 10:46

How long has it been there?

ainsisoisje · 20/01/2020 10:47

Could you stick a laminated sign on a picket near the bushes or ask the management company to put more signs up? I think the number alone doesn't deter people.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/01/2020 10:47

Hell's Teeth, Penners

Thai IS cheeky!

I hope that you then said "Sorry, pal - I've just had a drink. I should be legal to drive in about 2 hours."

c1JSU · 20/01/2020 10:52

Had the same problem in my old house, all allocated parking. I made a sign, had it laminated at work, nailed to a piece of wood and stuck in the ground 'PARKING FOR NUMBER 9 ONLY'. It actually worked!

mathsquestions · 20/01/2020 10:54

If this is a regular occurrence why not engage with another company to provide you with big a no parking sign and issue fines on your behalf.

It might be nimbyism but folk may well prefer to try to park in someone else’s space.

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/01/2020 10:56

Putting notes on the car will stand you in good stead just in case your 'not official' parking gives anyone a problem. You can show the picture to help explain why you had to park where you did and to show that you did everything you could.

Witchofzog · 20/01/2020 11:02

Have they come back yet op?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 20/01/2020 11:08

The big sign on a wooden stake is a good idea! Good luck op

Ferretyone · 20/01/2020 11:10

@DanceItOut

Going forward could you not stick a sign on a post [that is in front of where the car now is] simply saying something along the lines of "Private parking only for house no 8".

Thedeadwood · 20/01/2020 11:15

I know this CF is being a right pain in the arse parking in a space they they know isn't theirs, but committing criminal damage by keying someone is not an appropriate response. It really isn't.

ClientListQueen · 20/01/2020 11:15

I have my house number and private parking only in giant red letters. People still park there HmmAngry

CaptainButtock · 20/01/2020 11:16

Do it. And stick it to the windscreen with jam.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 20/01/2020 11:16

Is it actually your private space though or do you just put that because you want to park there?

FamBae · 20/01/2020 11:17

I know you shouldn't have to, but you could Invest in a parking post, they are about £50.
