Just that really, I have always suffered with insomnia but since after Christmas, it has gone up a whole new level.

I managed to fall asleep at around 11pm woke up at 11.15 wide a fucking awake and haven't been able to sleep since.

Its really fucking me up, time spent with DS and DP and to be able to do anything at all because I get so tired during the day.

Oh yes I occasionally use melatonin too, I need it to break the cycle of fear!
I had no sleep last night...... I must sleep tonight....... I am now too stressed to sleep

Be careful though, it can give you horrendous nightmares if your strength is too high. Mine is so I empty half the capsule,DH brought it me back from the US and I think it's 10mg, so I take half ish. Not very scientific I know but needs must.

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/01/2020 11:03

I've had success with night nurse in re setting sleep recently. 5 nights of a slurp then teeth and bed. Worth a try imo.

CaptainButtock · 20/01/2020 11:13

Wine helps me enormously with this BlushNot a skinful, you understand,.. a couple of glasses.

The dr did once prescribe me Temazepam and I was SO excited at the prospect of a decent nights sleep then.... nothing. Nada. Jack shit (even when I double dosed) Didn’t know Id taken them Confused

So it was back to wine for me. Also rain and thunder sounds on my iPod.

CaptainButtock · 20/01/2020 11:14

Having said that about Temazepam, I have noticed in the last few years that the strength of prescription meds can vary enormously...

eminencegrise · 20/01/2020 11:22

I'm very chronic. Zopiclone is the only thing that works for me but I've run out and can't get more for a couple of weeks. Sucks! I've tried everything over the years. I don't bother with GPs anymore, none of them takes it seriously.

Bluerussian · 20/01/2020 22:01

Interesting comments about Melatonin. I used it for a long time and it had absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Something else I tried was Kirkland sleep aid: www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=kirkland%20sleep-aid
My (adult) son swears by them but they had no effect :-).

Night nurse has helped sometimes. Proper prescription sleeping tabs do work but the GPs don't like prescribing nowadays.

So I just put up with it, have some Syndol, Tylenol and antihistamines, not all at once, maybe with a drink. Sometimes I sleep and sometimes not. Good job I'm retired.

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/01/2020 22:15

I don't suffer any where near as badly as others on this thread but I do find it really, really difficult to fall asleepSad

Often wake early and can't get back to sleep as well.

Then feel shattered when the alarm goes off.

It's rubbish! I've always struggled, even as a child.

No advice but lots of sympathyFlowers

MissSmith1 · 20/01/2020 22:16

I am taking melatonin bought in the states from CVS pharmacy but you can buy it online easily. 3 mg dose is enough

wavesfromtheback · 20/01/2020 22:22

Have you tried montmorency cherry concentrate?

TheWickerWoman · 20/01/2020 22:22

I go through bouts of it and think it’s also anxiety related. My problem is getting to sleep, once I’m asleep I’m ok and could go on for hours, so the bummer is I have to get up for work two/three hours after I’ve finally dozed off !

It’s so distressing! I have Diazepam for when things are really bad but they’re such a low dose that I have to take two or three and I’m trying to preserve them.

Reallycantbefuckedtothink · 21/01/2020 00:48

Thanks all, I am still wide awake, its like my brain goes, ooohhh its night time, time to wake up.

I haven't slept so I am hoping that in the next half an hour or so I will be asleep, whether that is now in bed or on the sofa, I don't go as long as I get some

Here in solidarity OP. I've hardly had any sleep over the past few nights and bastarding palpitations have now put in an appearance, basically removing any possibility of getting to sleep.

justjuggling · 21/01/2020 01:03

Me too. Slept for 2 hours last night and think it’ll be the same tonight. I’m so tired, why can’t I sleep?!

Rachelfromfriends1 · 21/01/2020 01:07

Night nurse always knocks me out

AmelieTaylor · 21/01/2020 01:08

Me too!

Absolutely fucking exhausted, but can’t sleep.

Sparkle2020 · 21/01/2020 01:09

I’m with you on this one. Currently out of work so I get no sleep at night and get a couple of hours in around 7am. It’s brutal :( only thing that can help is hydroxyzine but even then it’s hit and miss

QuestionableMouse · 21/01/2020 01:16

Mine is anxiety related too and while I usually hate white noise this app has been so helpful! tide.fm/en_US/

It has sleep sounds but also tracks your sleep. I had four hours the first time I used it and now regularly get 7+.

Reallycantbefuckedtothink · 21/01/2020 01:19

Just to say, I have taken most drugs that have been mentioned, will have to check on a couple of them, they either have done nothing or one knocked me out so badly, I couldn't wake up, so can't do that when I also have to do the school run, will say after the initial groggyness best night sleep ever.

Thank you for those of you have suggested something, I am not ignoring your suggestions, just have tried it, but hopefully someone will find the suggestions useful.

P.S Still wide awake.

Am on high dose steroids again, forgotten what sleeping is all about!

Rachelfromfriends1 · 21/01/2020 01:22

I definitely recommend night nurse with some caveats:

  • if your alarm is set for 6/7, take it at about 10pm. gives enough time for it to leave your system enough for you to wake up as normal/without feeling groggy etc. Like I wouldn’t recommend taking it at this time.
  • only take it for a few nights in a row to reset your body clock, you’ll soon get into a routine again
Mummaofmytribe · 21/01/2020 01:22

I've had exactly the same since Christmas Day-night! Had insomnia heaps, but this is a whole other level. I've just been diagnosed w bipolar and if this is what my future looks like, Idk how I'll cope much longer.
If I can get 4 hrs I'm ok.
But the most I've had in one night since Christmas is 90 minutes. It's making me physically ill. Ugh.

okiedokieme · 21/01/2020 01:25

Join the 2am club. I consider 5 hours sleep a success these days.

Retroflex · 21/01/2020 01:33

@eminencegrise I cycle between zopiclone and zolpidem as I found when using the same medication each time, either I needed extremely high doses, or it just didn't work... Currently suffering with insomnia again, but will wait a few more weeks until my need for sleep takes over my life and I can't function properly before I go back to the doctor...

atomicblonde30 · 21/01/2020 01:35

I feel you, I often fall asleep at 10pm-ish and wake for 11pm. I’ll be awake until around 5am as I usually am now and mos likely cry from exhaustion tomorrow, again . .

heath48 · 21/01/2020 01:41

Try a magnesium supplement,I take one from Sainsbury’s ,also has B6 in.

Always spray pillow with This Works deep pillow spray.

I have also taken melatonin,it zonks me out and I don’t like the way it makes me feel the next day,so it’s a last resort for me.

I am lucky as I am retired and on my own,so can choose to get up later.

Good luck ladies.
