Just that really, I have always suffered with insomnia but since after Christmas, it has gone up a whole new level.

I managed to fall asleep at around 11pm woke up at 11.15 wide a fucking awake and haven't been able to sleep since.

Its really fucking me up, time spent with DS and DP and to be able to do anything at all because I get so tired during the day.

I hear you

Elindab · 20/01/2020 05:34

Me too. Why does it happen??

Reallycantbefuckedtothink · 20/01/2020 05:36

Thanks Deathstare.

I am tempted to pay someone to knock me out at around 11pm. I am just starting to get tired and there is no point now as I have to be up in an hour, thus starting the whole cycle again

@Elindab

If I could figure that out, I would find a cure and make a fortune ;)

Hello from another fellow insomniac. In bed at 11.30, up at 2.30am, knackered all day. Lather, rinse, repeat.
And I do everything, from healthy food, to exercise, to meditation to acupressure mats, I’ve done them all.
Partly, my insomnia is anxiety related. Around 2am-ish is when I get my “bad” thought, ranging from dying from undiscovered cancer to losing everything and picking up food from bins to eat because me and DD are homeless sleeping rough until social services take her away from me.
None of these have the tiniest truth or possibility.

Reallycantbefuckedtothink · 20/01/2020 05:46

@Henrysmycat I am almost certain mine is anxiety related as well.

Although it could just be because I enjoy watching adverts on the TV

maybe we should set up a club? The League of Insomniacs

The Gathering of the Half Dead

The Association of Insomniac Philosophers

My favourite - Youthful Autonomous Women of the Night (or YAWN for short)

Whoops sorry wrong thread lol!! We are discussing Muslim and religious attitudes to homosexuality. I too can’t sleep and hence why I’ve posted on the wrong thread

Divebar · 20/01/2020 06:09

Errrrrr ok.

Divebar · 20/01/2020 06:09

That was a very random interjection Wink

Bluerussian · 20/01/2020 06:10

I hear you too. I haven't slept a wink. Have something weird on Netflix atm for company. Keep telling myself I'll get a grip - one day. Good job I don't have to go to work.

You look after yourself. These things pass eventuallly.

PhilCornwall1 · 20/01/2020 06:13

I'm with you, mines illness related as I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and get woken up with pain at anything from 2am onwards. Once I'm awake, that's it, I'm up for painkillers and can't get back to sleep, I've been like this for about 2 years now.

I did manage to sleep till 5am today and that is huge for me, although we were out until about 9pm last night, it won't be like that tonight.

I hate it though, as in the evenings I'm asleep in the chair. I worry about my wife to be honest, as what kind of evening does it give her, having a husband asleep in the chair. She is brilliant though, never complains and just says, if you are in pain, you need the sleep, it's not your fault. She's lovely and understanding, but I do worry.

I've tried everything, taking my painkillers before bed, etc. nothing changes. It's pretty tough working, as it's exhausting, but I guess one bonus is, I work from home.

I feel for you, the nights are long and it's a lonely old time.

.....
Yeah, mine is too.
Have 'The Sinner' on Netflix, very weird, haven't a clue what it's about but it's company and I have the sound low so I can fall asleep on sofa - hopefully.

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 20/01/2020 06:15

I get that ‘wide awake again 15 minutes after falling asleep’ thing too
. It’s so annoying!!
No idea how to fix it either, sorry.

AnyFucker · 20/01/2020 06:18

Checking in. Chronic insomnisc here.

Last night I turned the light off at 12:30. Woke at 3. Just dozed for half an hour now it's time to get up for work.

3 hours. That will rinse and repeat all week until my day off on Friday when I will get a massive migraine or something and be out of action all day. It can't be good for you.

MissSmith1 · 20/01/2020 06:25

I have been taking vitamin D and think that is helping. I've always poopooed needing Vit D as I spend time out of doors most days, however my insomnia was always worse in winter and thought I'd give it a try and feel that it helps.
Also a bit of melatonin (rather than a full size pill as you don't need much according to what I've read) there is another thread with suggestions Here

Reallycantbefuckedtothink · 20/01/2020 06:42

I am watching something called Hardcore Pawn.

I thought mystery diners was fake, this goes beyond that. Another half hour and I have to wake DS up.

Sorry so many others are going through this as well, I am not completely on my own though I have 2 cats and a dog to keep me company.

Just really pissed off I can't seem to sleep at night, it seems like at 9pm my brain goes, right time to wake up and if I dare fall asleep and be woken up for whatever reason, than that is me for the night.

I did get caught up on mission impossible (TV series) and some other random shit. My internet has been dropping in and out, so netflix was a no no

Hi my people. I've been dealing with this for years now. Started off as pregnancy insomnia and has not stopped. I'm sure it's anxiety now as I wake up with my heart racing, I've convinced I'm dying from something as I've had ongoing health issues that's fobbed off by my Dr. So now every night I end up listening to a film on Netflix and sleep for maybe an hour at a time. I dread bedtime, I mean what's the point when you know you're going to be up most of it 😢

SureTry · 20/01/2020 06:50

Sorry for the lack of paragraphs.

Vinosaurus · 20/01/2020 06:54

Yep - I hear you. Started suffering from it a few months ago and have been running on fumes ever since. Pretty sure mine's anxiety related too. In the past (had it a lot after a major medical event) I used guided meditation to get back to sleep, but it seems to have lost its potency these days.

SebandAlice · 20/01/2020 10:12

@MissSmith1
What brand/strength of melatonin do you buy?

Has anyone tried weighted blankets? I am considering buying one.

lilmishap · 20/01/2020 10:32

Does Melatonin work? I've been heading to bed at 2am for the last few months after reading you shouldn't get into bed until you're likely to sleep. It's not working.
I sit downstairs feeling like I may drop off then I see my bed and boom wide awake but barely able to function the in the day.

Cryingoverspilttea · 20/01/2020 10:39

Gravity blanket, get your thyroid and bvit/ iron levels checked along with Vitamin D. Suddenly I am no longer awake 9hrs a night

AceOfShades · 20/01/2020 10:57

I have managed to sort my insomnia out which was getting to the point of some nights getting no sleep at all. I still have the occasional bad night but they are thankfully infrequent!

I've started HRT which seemed to help my insomnia was at its worst during ovulation (quite common)

Audible has helped massively. I set a book going for about 30 min and usually manage to fall asleep. It was the getting off to sleep in the first place which proved difficult.

No alcohol (midweek at least, but have cut it out unless I'm out out)

Magnesium supplement before bed (also helps with restless legs)
