Anyone else get ‘the fear’ on a Sunday about going back to work?

I do like my job but get that sinking feeling on a Sunday afternoon about having to go into work the next day.

It’s always fine once I’m there but I still get ‘the fear’

Anyone else or is it just me?

I have this, had a terrible end to my day on Friday, cried in front of DHT and HT and now can't bear to think about tomorrow morning.

Hugs OP

I work for myself from home, living the dream and I still don’t want to do it on a Monday morning

Undies1990 · 19/01/2020 14:02

I used to get that feeling in my previous job because it was the wrong job for me. I've since moved on to a different job and don't get that Sunday fear anymore.

Perhaps think about a new role or career change?

MondeoFan · 19/01/2020 14:02

Yes I sit down on a Sunday night watching tv once DC in bed and all I can think about is setting the alarm ready for work tomorrow

nearlyemptynester · 19/01/2020 14:02

I have this already..... had a meltdown on Wednesday and have been off since..(school environment) Going to hope that I can smile and style it out tomorrow. !!!

Hopoindown31 · 19/01/2020 14:05

Sometimes, however this weekend I'm really looking forward to getting back to work to see how our HR department are going to get themselves out of the massive hole they've dug themselves in on Friday afternoon.

DoreenSamuel · 19/01/2020 14:06

Undies - why would I want to change my career, I said in the op I like my job. I just would rather do something else as I’m sure we all would!

We’ll all be ok, it’s not as bad when you’re there I find, it’s the build up of going

I used to get a bit like this working in a nursery where the manager was loopy and cruel to the children, so I changed jobs and really don't mind going in now.

Cordial11 · 19/01/2020 14:08

Yes always... if i’ve been off on holiday it’s really bad before return

gabsdot45 · 19/01/2020 14:09

I used to but I changed jobs last year and I'm much happier now. I also only work Monday, Tuesday and Friday so I get 2 weekends every week.
Enjoy the rest of Sunday.

StopMegxit · 19/01/2020 14:11

Yes, I get this...and I really like my job.

For me it’s the realisation as another Sunday draws to a close that I have to get up early be switched on, energetic, responsible, a grown up ALL DAY FOR FIVE DAYS.

I’m a lazy cow, though. Happiest at home pottering and napping Grin.

billy1966 · 19/01/2020 14:11

OP, that is a form of low level anxiety and quite common actually.

CBT can be very effective.

You are not alone.💐

TheMostHappy · 19/01/2020 14:11

Yes it's horrendous. Sunday afternoons and evenings are miserable ☹️

picklemepopcorn · 19/01/2020 14:11

Yes, teaching. Doubled after a holiday, and tripled after the summer. I always worried that this would be the year they'd work out that it was all dependent on their goodwill, and that if they decided not to cooperate we were stuffed!

Thank goodness, I don't do that any more.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/01/2020 14:12

Nope ..... I'm one of those lucky people that like their jobs ! May be it's because I'm s single parent to a train obsessed 5 year old boy so it's more the interaction with adults I look forward to ( who rarely talk about buffers , train timetables etc....!)

DoreenSamuel · 19/01/2020 14:13

Stop meg - yes I quite like napping and pottering too!

I used to get this terribly when I was around 6th form aged. Then uni not so bad but had it horribly when I was home for the weekend and going back early Monday morning to classes.

I never used to get it as an adult and I have worked Sunday’s pretty much my whole life post graduation and I’m only in my 20s so not that long, but I have recently changed jobs and don’t work Sunday’s and have much busier Monday’s. And the fear has come back! I find that on Sunday’s I either want to get up at 8am and do LOADS like go on a day trip, hike, meal out etc. Or I want to stay in bed and watch crap tv and do literally nothing. It’s weird.

Sassifrass · 19/01/2020 14:17

Retired now - still get it!

drspouse · 19/01/2020 14:19

A bit but mainly because I'm worrying about how the DCs (especially DS) are going to cope at school.
I work a half day Monday and pick up the DCs though which is nice usually.

DoreenSamuel · 19/01/2020 14:20

Billy yes you’re right it is low level anxiety. It’s completely irrational as when I analyse it I do really enjoy my job and there is nothing to actually fear. May look into CBT, heard lots of positive things about it.

MuchBetterNow · 19/01/2020 14:23

When I worked in a school it was horrendous. Changed my job and don’t mind going in at all. The fear has left me.

I’m the same Xmas Smile

No idea where freaking Santa come from ?!

cheesenpickles · 19/01/2020 14:24

Great job. Work from home. Doing what I love. Still get it! I live with low level anxiety that I'm about to massively fuck something up all the time.
