Anyone else get ‘the fear’ on a Sunday about going back to work?

I do like my job but get that sinking feeling on a Sunday afternoon about having to go into work the next day.

It’s always fine once I’m there but I still get ‘the fear’

Anyone else or is it just me?

Not since I had kids.

It’s creeping back though as my youngest is now 6, so weekends are now slightly more restful than weekdays!

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 20/01/2020 22:37

I'm a lone parent/mature student at uni and I get this. I think it's because my days are so long and i have to try to fit so much into them, and it's still never enough. It's bloody depressing on a Sunday thinking about setting my alarm for 5.30. Permanently exhausted and I have major imposter syndrome happening too. Urgh!

Pashola · 20/01/2020 22:47

I used to get this in my old job, I was so stressed sometimes the feeling would even start on a Saturday, that's when I knew I had to leave.

I now have a new job and am still on probation, I already know this isn't the job for me and now start feeling dread on a Sunday night, I get absolutely no sleep every Sunday, but I need to stay until I find something else, and that's another awful feeling as i feel so stuck/trapped

WestCovina · 20/01/2020 22:47

@AnneElliott I genuinely thought I was really odd for having this feeling. I have a long weekend every other week and always feel like I’ve wasted it no matter what. Packed/busy weekend is wasted, lazy weekend is wasted. What’s that about?!

I do get the fear. I like my job, but I just hate working! I want to stay in bed with my cats.

monstiebags · 20/01/2020 22:55

So agree
I think it must just be inherently lazy
I loved my job when I did it for free now I hate it

nevermorelenore · 21/01/2020 08:11

If I had my time again after returning from maternity leave I would have chosen my days as TWT instead of MTW just so I could avoid Monday!

Isn't it more sensible to work the Monday, as you get bank holidays and therefore more time off?

drspouse · 21/01/2020 08:33

You don't though, you have to use a whole day AL out of the 0.6 of a full year that you get.

Lightupthemoon · 21/01/2020 08:37

No as I work on a sunday so feel this in a saturday instead

IsSpringSprangedYet · 21/01/2020 09:13

I feel it too! Similar to what PPs have said. I had it with secondary school and then 9-5 work. Now as a SAHM, I have it because my kids are AWFUL at getting up and ready
by themselves in the morning. I turn into that naggy shouty mum who just scrapes into school on time. I just can't seem to change it.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 21/01/2020 09:22

It's definitely job dependent. I don't get it now as my job is pretty relaxed and I don't have to be constantly 'on'. Teaching was another matter. It's not really a profession for a n introvert on the asd spectrum. Not only did I get The Fear but every morning before registration I also got the runs (tmi).....not great. Glad I don't do that anymore.

Pashola · 21/01/2020 09:31

Can I ask the self employed in this thread why they do?
@inliverpool1 @Oliversmumsarmy @cheesenpickles

Pashola · 21/01/2020 09:31

*What you do even #stupidphone

cheesenpickles · 21/01/2020 09:58

I'm not self employed anymore but when I was I was a freelance copywriter and journalist.

SerenDippitty · 21/01/2020 10:12

I used to get it when I was in a job I hated. On Friday evenings I would be almost hysterical with relief that I had made it through another working week and would drink too much as a result. Then the fear would start on Sunday afternoons. Then I moved to a better job and it got much much less. Now I am retired I don’t get it at all. Weekends still feel like weekends, but more relaxed as I don’t have to do the chores I needed to get ready for the next working week like shopping, washing, ironing etc. I can enjoy Dancing on Ice more knowing it’s not my last bit of relaxation before the start of another working week.

Ragwort · 21/01/2020 13:38

Not at all, but I am lucky enough to work part time, hours to suit me, in a local job that I really love (not a prestigious career or at all well paid - but I am very happy). In fact I miss it when I am not at work, on annual leave this week but I know I will drop in on Friday just to check how things are Grin.

itmusthavebeencoffee · 21/01/2020 15:45

Yep, ever since I've been working! I actually really enjoy my job but I loathe spending nine hours a day five times a week in a grim, poky office, I hate wishing away week after week. It took me a while to figure out that it was the environment rather than the work but I've decided to try going freelance. I spent 6 months saving up and handed my notice in just after Christmas... nervous but at least if it doesn't work out I'll know I tried!

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/01/2020 16:01

I deal in property

LoveBeingAMum555 · 21/01/2020 16:43

I used to get this more in my old job, but yes I can relate to that feeling. I don't dislike my job but given the chance I would probably work less hours and be able to switch off more when I am away from the office. At the moment I need the salary so its not an option.

Jojo2wyatr · 21/01/2020 18:52

Hahahalol, yay, after all these years, I thought it was just me! Looks like we are all normal after all with 96% of us feeling this wayGrin

Jojo2wyatr · 21/01/2020 18:59

#GROWINGOLD DISGRACEFULLY

Loved your self diagnosis...it is spot-on for me, too. ThanksFlowers

Jojo2wyatr · 21/01/2020 19:15

For me the sunday night dread has nothing to do with a work situation as I have had it since year 2..... I guess it has more to do with the anxiety of having to be 'on' for 5 straight daysConfused

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 21/01/2020 19:21

Yep. I have a new job which is so much better in every way than my old one, better conditions, great colleagues, nice boss. But l am a nervous wreck all the time about messing it up, worried about making mistakes and not learning quick enough. I just can’t relax, never felt so awful, ‘the fear’ is strong.

Efrogwraig · 21/01/2020 23:12

We call it that Countryfile feeling. Once that comes on TV the w/e is as good as over.

DoreenSamuel · 26/01/2020 18:18

Can’t believe it’s Sunday already 😢

OP posts:
Therebythedoor · 26/01/2020 19:21

I get the Sunday fear as I dread the drive to work and have very mixed feelings about my job.

I also experience a seasonal fear. I imagine I'm not alone but does anyone experience that 'back to school after the summer holiday' feeling which comes on the moment there's that early morning chill/freshness in the air usually from late August onwards? A sense of dread and mourning combined?
(Sorry I've not worded it well.)
