Anyone else get ‘the fear’ on a Sunday about going back to work?

DoreenSamuel · 19/01/2020 13:57

I do like my job but get that sinking feeling on a Sunday afternoon about having to go into work the next day.

It’s always fine once I’m there but I still get ‘the fear’

Anyone else or is it just me?

Try suffering through the Sunday fear of having to face your boss on Monday after you almost slept with him on Friday. FML what a sad cliche Sad

I've self-diagnosed with Imposter Syndrome and always feel anxious about work.

It's always worse on a Sunday night. Especially in Winter. And I don't particularly dislike my job.

adaline · 19/01/2020 16:11

Whenever I've had that, it's been time to change jobs.

I had it in my current job and am currently signed off sick with MH issues that are directly related to my work. I've also handed in my notice and it's like a huge weight has been lifted!

Not saying that's the case for you, but for me it's been a sign that something needs to change.

bluebell94 · 19/01/2020 16:13

Yep. A lot better than I was in my old job (worked in a&e and would often cry before going in for my first shift after a few days off Blush). It's not that I dislike my job now, I'm relatively happy in it... I just think I would be happier if I was a rich lady of leisure Grin

SachaStark · 19/01/2020 16:15

I used to have this all the time when I was a full time teacher. It was awful.

Now I do cover supply in a really lovely school, and I don’t have any fear about going to work anymore. Five months in, and I can still give myself a pleasant little shock on a Sunday afternoon that nobody expects me to have used ten hours of my weekend to complete paperwork and analyse data.

I love my Sundays and weekday evenings now!

shggg245 · 19/01/2020 16:16

Yep so much so I didn't sleep Sunday nights. I got a new job and the fear has evaporated.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 19/01/2020 16:17

In the sector I work in (which is highly regulated and stressful) I think practically everyone gets the fear...

MrsMelanieHamilton · 19/01/2020 16:24

@hugecliche please start a thread, I’m intrigued Grin

I get this. I recently went back to work after a year of maternity leave and I didn’t get any Sunday Doom for the whole year, it was lovely.

CassandrasCastle · 19/01/2020 16:25

It's quite a bit better now I have changed jobs, but the Sunday evening gloom still closes in...definitely agree that it's knowing that I have 5 days of early starts and concentration stretching ahead; it just feels so LONG. Also, I'm pregnant and tired/sore, just want to mooch around, not chat brightly to colleagues at 8am

TheSquitz · 19/01/2020 16:26

I look forward to the weekends way too much and hate that Sunday evening gloom. I''m a teacher and this year in September I cried on my way to work every day for 2 weeks Blush I don't hate my job, but would rather not have to do it. If I can last 2 more years, I may take early retirement at 55.

CassandrasCastle · 19/01/2020 16:26

@MrsMelanieHamilton I am so looking forward to the year's mat leave break! Grin

Lipperfromchipper · 19/01/2020 16:27

Nope, I’m a teacher and I love my job. The weekend is mine, I’ll think about it at 9 in the morning 👍

Oliversmumsarmy · 19/01/2020 16:29

I used to get this and it didn’t ease up when I got to work.

Changed jobs a few times. Became really depressed

The relief when I went self employed, even though I was putting in more hours. Couldn’t go back to a 9-5 job

blue25 · 19/01/2020 16:32

Used to in a previous job (teaching). Changed job and no longer feel this way. I love my weekends but actually look forward to a new week starting.

dimsum123 · 19/01/2020 16:35

I hate hate hate my job. Always get that sinking feeling on Sunday evening about the coming week.

BUT, I handed in my notice on Friday as have been offered a (hopefully) much better job in a much nicer organisation than my toxic current job.

So now I'm dreading going in tomorrow before I'm sure they'll be super nasty because I'm leaving, so obviously have been going behind their backs and secretly applying for jobs and going for interviews.

And I don't want to have to go in and actually do the sh*tty job itself while I work out my notice.

thebear1 · 19/01/2020 16:35

I never used to but it has recently started to crop due to big changes in the work environment.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/01/2020 16:37

At the moment yes

Not usually but at the moment we have a terribly difficult situation and it’s draining us all to a level staff are being signed off sick

And management are doing fuck all

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2020 16:38

For years the opening credits of Country File would cause that Sunday night feeling (and the tears would start). Now I have a job I love and, more importantly, great colleagues, so I don’t get it anymore.

Ashtower · 19/01/2020 16:41

I'm working from home but still have anxiety. I have a project to present in 6 weeks and I really need to make a start. No idea where to start - afraid I'll be outed as a fraud.

Hope you (and everyone else with the fear) have a nice evening.

Ashtower · 19/01/2020 16:42

I hate my job

puppymouse · 19/01/2020 16:43

I don't really get this anymore. I don't work on Monday, which helps but I don't get the fear on Tuesday eve largely due to not having a bastard commute anymore. I hadn't realised how much I hated it. I still get some weeks where I get grumpy or stressy but there's usually a specific thing I'm dreading doing or can't control or something that causes it.

Interesting how many teachers feel that way.

It's the speed.of it all: 5 days of shepherding my own.Kids to cm.and clubs along with working late every night. I'm not sure if working all weekend makes it better or worse.

Fivetillmidnight · 19/01/2020 17:00

Yep had the same. Now work 5 days over 4 , so 9 hr day. Life transformed. ( I know not all employers will do this. I work in the civil service, who are VERY open to different work patterns. )

Knottatall · 19/01/2020 17:02

I always get this, I call it the 'Sunday night feeling' which I've had since my school days. It's an anxiety issue for me. I didn't have a great school experience and then a few horrible jobs as an adult. For years things have been great but once Sunday evening is here the 'feeling' creeps in, stomach aches and I sometimes can't sleep so I just stick a comedy on and make sure I'm totally organised for the week ahead. Hope that's helps, it's not an uncommon thing for people to feel xx
