Anyone else get ‘the fear’ on a Sunday about going back to work?

I do like my job but get that sinking feeling on a Sunday afternoon about having to go into work the next day.

It’s always fine once I’m there but I still get ‘the fear’

Anyone else or is it just me?

I stay up late on Sunday put off going to sleep because if work on Monday.
I think about being ill and not having to go. Like a broken leg or something.
But I was out of work for a long time was really on my beam ends had to do something so here I am.
I could scream.

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 20/01/2020 18:22

Yep me! And all the drive to work I really don’t want to go, but when I’m there it’s fine.

Can’t change jobs as I would need to retrain for a career move which we can’t afford at the minute.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 20/01/2020 18:29

I hated my last job so much that I used to not want to go to bed on Sundays as the next day was work - I’d go to bed really late and then feel shite as well as hating my job🤣
Once I left I actually couldn’t understand why I’d stayed so long!(I’d been the 11 years - 10 happy with 2 different head teachers but HT no 3 was a demon.

Nurgleturtle · 20/01/2020 18:37

I voted you Abu because I don't have the liberty of having weekends off Dx I get a Tuesday and Friday off work in retail too Dx

Pinklady1982 · 20/01/2020 18:37

Yep every week! So much so that I open up my laptop when I get into bed on a Sunday night, just to check that everything is ok, otherwise I won't sleep properly! (I work from home 3 days a week, so have my laptop over the weekend, it's dangerous! )

SouthernMamma · 20/01/2020 18:42

Gosh that sounds like the Sunday feeling before school. Never get that feeling anymore because I must be in the right job. Have a big think about what you do for a living or who you’re working for/with.

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/01/2020 18:55

I think Drabarni was referring to the people who are 2 income families but by the time you have added up
Cost of Childcare
Commuting costs
Cleaners
Etc

Adds up to the salary of one of the incomes so no extra money needs to be found and they end up better off.

Cockadoodledooo · 20/01/2020 18:56

Nope. Monday is my day off Grin

I don't generally get it at all in my current job, though sometimes do when I've been on leave for a week or more.

JustDanceAddict · 20/01/2020 18:57

It’s the thought of getting up early again and having to be ‘on’. Just the general madness of the week.

pollyglot · 20/01/2020 18:58

I was a teacher for 46 years and the only time I hated Sunday nights was when I worked with a vicious, jealous head of department. Otherwise, I loved waking on Monday mornings with such optimism about the new week. I loved walking into school on Mondays with well-prepared lessons, and feeling inspired by the kids' cheerful greetings. I miss it.

Drabarni · 20/01/2020 19:04

Yes, that was it. I know some people have to work, of course.
I just don't understand those that don't have to, continuing in a job that makes as some pp said miserable, throughout their weekend.
It costs a lot to work in some cases.

Rumnraisin · 20/01/2020 19:06

Think I’m conditioned to have that Sunday sinking feeling about Monday which stems back from school - still have to put the Antiques Roadshow music on mute - and from previous hideous jobs. I work from home now and Monday isn’t a hectic day for me, have to remind myself its not that bad!

DICarter1 · 20/01/2020 19:12

Yes. Started a new job PT and dread going in. Mainly as I’ve had next to no training and they’re massively disorganised. I won’t be able to change jobs as I’ve got two children with special needs and they can’t access clubs or before and after school care so i needed a job that fit with school hours and is term time only. As you can imagine, they’re very rare. I’ve only worked 7 days but feel like I’m drowning and my boss who has three different roles is only in three days a week and isn’t overly helpful.

Dizzygirl00 · 20/01/2020 19:32

I get the fear every day about going to work, not just on sundays 😢

FaveNumberIs2 · 20/01/2020 19:34

Not really fear, because I do love my job, but I never sleep properly on a Sunday night. Constant tossing and turning, and I never drop off before 1.30 monday morning.

Rosebel · 20/01/2020 19:45

Well survived another Monday but it won't change how I feel next Sunday (or next Friday as I hate Saturday working).
Bank in 2004I loved my job and wish I was still there but the company shut in 2008. I have had Sunday night dread ever since.
Wish I could leave but we do need the money. Hope I get a new job soon.

SweetMarmalade · 20/01/2020 19:47

Yes!

If I had my time again after returning from maternity leave I would have chosen my days as TWT instead of MTW just so I could avoid Monday! Then again, by Wed I’m done and dusted!

SweetMarmalade · 20/01/2020 19:51

At least there’s more programs on a Sunday night these days than the god awful South Bank Show! If I hear that music it reminds me of the sinking feeling and the realisation that tomorrow was school and there was no more fun to be had!! So depressing!

MiniTheMinx · 20/01/2020 19:53

Nope, I almost wish I did. Well, just on a Sunday. Instead I get that sinking feeling everytime my phone makes a noise. I'm either in work, on call or just bombarded with updates anyway, irrespective of whether I'm on call. I like my job well enough, and I only work part time.

Sciurus83 · 20/01/2020 19:57

This is why I don't work Mondays. Sundays are great and I don't want to ruin half of it by thinking about work, doesn't seem to feel the same on monday night for some reason. But I'm only two weeks into this arrangement so we will see!

Hollywhiskey · 20/01/2020 20:29

I used to, to the point that I couldn't enjoy anything on Sunday night because of my anxiety over Monday morning. Then on Monday morning I would feel physically sick driving in.
It's not normal. I quit that job, changed career and now I enjoy Sundays. I feel mildly inconvenienced by having to get up and go to work in Mondays but a large part of that is finding leggings more comfortable than suits or tights.

EnidBlyton · 20/01/2020 20:34

i work sunday evenings, otherwise i guess i could get the fear
it is deep inside us from childhood i think.

BeenNeverSeen · 20/01/2020 22:11

I can totally identify with going to bed late on a Sunday to put off Monday morning... Really resented our weekend being over!

tinyme77 · 20/01/2020 22:21

Yes but I get a Friday high too.

MazDazzle · 20/01/2020 22:24

I get the fear on Sundays too. All consuming dread that gets me in the pit of the stomach. I’m snappy with the children too. However, I now work PT and have Mondays off. For some reason I don’t get the Sunday Dread on a Monday. And if I’m feeling really apprehensive I can pop into work on the Monday to make sure everything’s fine for Tuesday. I refuse point blank to work Mondays.
